Red State Connection yes!! I’ve been up there so many times and I never get bored, I’m on first name terms with the farmer. It really is a beautiful place.
This house was the next estate over from Newstead Abbey..Byrons house he inherited at 8 years old...As a young teenager he fell in love with Mary chaworth Musters...and used to visit the house every day to see the love of his life...They would walk in her rose gardens..and walk up Annesley hill in the sunshine...and sit and talk...he wanted to marry her and she him..but the family forbade it ..and she had to marry another who was rich...Byron never got over her all his life....He wrote a poem for her later in life=Hills of Annesley..bleak and barren..where my thoughtless childhood strayed..How thw northern tempests,,warring..Howl above yout tufted shade...Now no more..the hours beguiling..favourite haunts I see..Now no more my Mary smiling..Makes ye seem a heaven to me.......The family must have regretted their decision..because Byron of course became very famous and rich for a while.......
That is a bloody good fun fact! Have you ever been to it yourself to see the place? Thanks for sharing. I wish I knew more about my ancestors from that far back!
@@TreacleTowner no I’ve never visited it, I only recently found out myself that my ancestors used to own it. Well the was a lord of it in the very early days of the manor. Definitely going to be visiting it though with my brother if I still can.
@@jessmaeee4 i think its still in this condition from what ive heard, unfortunately as you can see its mainly just a shell of a building now. but its still beautiful to see it in the grounds and imagine life how it use to be.
Sure mate! i usually put our photos on 28 days later, but most of them go onto our facebook page/instagram (if you search Red State Connection on both thats us! so if you wanna check out ours you can, do you post your up anywhere you can link us too?
I f it hadn`t burnt down..they could have made a fortune...with visitors because Byron lovers ..who know this story..after seeing Newton Abbey Byrons house ..they would all trek over to Mary`s house and pay to go in....Shame it was destroyed....The romeo and Juliet story happened here in the rose-gardens.....so bleak sad and lonely now........
kathryn edwards thankyou so much for the information I didn’t know the story, it is a real shame to see it sit doing nothing. Are you local to it? Haven’t been over in a while wonder if anything is happening yet on the site. Hate seeing history like this lost.
