  • Optivolt shade tolerant 100watt solar panel test. Direct head to head real time testing against a standard 100watt monocrystalline panel. No fluff, just farming for photons.
    Will the Optivolt pulse technology actually work? Find out in this video!

    WOW! ❤ Thanks for this video, I had absolutely no idea such a panel existed! Just ordered 2 units for my Sprinter Van. This will be a game changer when I can’t park in a good spot! #vanlife

    I didn’t realize that blocking a little of the panel made such a big effect on output. Really appreciate the information!

      Glad it was helpful! Small blockages cause BIG losses on non optimized systems!

      Depends on the panel - the more bypass diodes yours has, the better it can do in the shade. For example, a 405W panel with 3 bypass diodes has three 135W "sections", and shading on one of the sections won't impact the others in this case. The Optivolt seems to be a further evolution in shade performance but the specifics on how it works is unclear to me.

    Definitely a impressive panel! It is neat that technology has come a long way. It would be neat to see how a bifacial would perform under the same test. Regardless definitely a good test in a real world application.

      Stand alone optimized units are nice! Optivolt has a 400W unit as well. Would love a string of 400W units! Thanks for watching and commenting!

      Definitely amazing how solar technology is advancing! Stand alone optimized panels like these would help my daily collection tremendously.

    Good video. Obviously a superior panel and with the extra's but almost 4x the cost of a plain vanilla 100 watt panel.

      @THEOFFGRIDMOUNTAINHOMESTEAD  4 месяца назад +1

      Yes the cost is higher. Hopefully these panels will be like LiFePO4 and drop in price as they become more popular!

    Good to know about this- I was wondering if solar panels would not be as effective with all the “cloudy” days we have been having lately.

    • @THEOFFGRIDMOUNTAINHOMESTEAD
      @THEOFFGRIDMOUNTAINHOMESTEAD  4 месяца назад +1

      Yes any solar panel regardless if optimized or not will have reduced output with less solar irradiance hitting the module!

    Thanks for the testing, always good to see real life performances.
    However, I am not so sure if this is a new thing, as the other comment suggests, half cell technology is doing the same performance when shaded.
    About the baseline of both tested panels... 90 Watts for a brand new one vs 80 Watts for an already used one, seems ok to me. how old is the Flexpanel?
    About the leaf test: the Flexpanel drops from 83 -> 72 Watts which is a -12% decrease ... the Optivolt drops from 91 -> 82 which is a -9% decrease. So yes seems to perform better, but not realy a breakthrough (depending on the pricing of the two panels, wether it is worth it or not)
    About the last test: Would be great to see what the Optivolt does when the bottom half is getting shaded as well, my guess would be it dropts to 0, just like half cell tec. And how would both panels perform when u rotate the shading block by 90°

    You're not going to be using these for off grid or commercial installs. You need more voltage for it to make sense for anything larger than 36V DC charging. Hopefully they can make them series connectivity compatible. Then you have something super awesome.

      Yes not series capable is a bummer! I will have a video coming soon to show how to charge a 48V system with this panel!

    I suspect the reason you got anything out of the optivolt is that it's a split cell design. You shaded one half the panel but the other half was available. Cool that someone is considering what would give an edge to shade tolerance but that's really not new tech. Just new tech in small panels. Looks like it might still be a "12v" panel but the optimizer boosts the voltage higher. There was another company that was doing this here in the US and went bankrupt or just stopped producing them a few years ago. Had some odd product line using boost converters on the back of every panel.

    torture test?

  • @greysquare9327
    @greysquare9327 4 месяца назад +1

    I don't think your last test was fair (shading 30%). A lot of panels have multiple runs in parallel and it looks like you shaded all your runs on your flex panel (runs going vertical) while the optivolt you only shaded the top half (looks like the runs splits top vs bottom based on the seam in the middle leaving the bottom half running unobstructed).
    Would be more fair if you split the optivolt with the shade on the side going across all the runs to be a fair comparison to the flex panel.
