The greatest PROS for a Total Gym vs Functional Trainer is the lower price AND its portability. You can put a Total Gym anywhere and fold it up when it's not in use.
I tell my son all the time to get a total gym. He does free weights but never stays consistent. He jumped on my total gym for a workout and got just as good of a pump. He's 39 and said he may pull the trigger and get one merry Christmas to you and you're family another great video total gym for life
That's great to hear Mike! Sounds like you're son will pick one up and not look back. I agree the "pumps" are second to none on any other piece of gym equipment. Merry Christmas to you as well!
Range of motion issues noted with some of the movements on the total gym…. Standing up during many (most) of the exercises and more freedom of movement along with a better variety will always benefit accessory muscles, core and balance. Functional trainers for the win.
Thanks for making this video!
Thanks for the initial question and comment!
Perfect video. I was just wondering this
Glad it was helpful.
I have both a commercial functional trainer and a Total Gym GTS. They both offer tremendous value and I use them both. However, due to a severe degenerative spinal condition, I am limited to training my upper body on the GTS as it allows me to train my upper body with no spinal compression.
Thanks for sharing that Todd. I think that's a helpful comment for people wondering how a functional trainer affects the spine.
Tonal appears to be less hassle than traditional functional trainers, but having it completely attached to a wall seems weird.
I agree. It seems cools for sure, but I personally also don't like guided workouts, so I feel like it would defeat the purpose.
U can do the crunch from behind the machine. Just sit or Knell down with the hight above shoulder level. I do it with a triceps rope, Use free weights on the bar or bands.
I did it awhile back on a video with my Weider and while I liked it, it didn't feel as good as with a cable machine. I don't think I tried it though with any of my total gyms though. Motivated me to give a try though.
If u angle your self right and the pulleys are at the right hight, and keep the resistance from bottoming out , with enough weight, it’s not bad. The lat pull down from behind is great to. Best lat movement on the total gym in my option, have the machine at the highest setting, sit and lean back a bit, and pull back
I have a Powertec Levergym and i love it. But i must say i am dying to try out a Total gym. Unfortunetly they dont sell them in Denmark where i live
Those are great gyms as well. If not for my Total Gym, I'd probably get one of these over a functional trainer.
great video mike. Do you have any ideas on how to prevent the fit model from getting locked on top? It always happens with pullups.
I've gotten used to avoiding it happening most of the time, but you're right I need to look into this and find an easy solution. I'm curious how tall are you? I could see this potentially happening more often for some people based on their height.
I'm 5 11 and a half. i also have long arms. I'll try to think of a solution as well and if i find it, I'll let u know
I've had several home gyms over the years. Now that I'm older, I choose simplicity. I also have disabilities now and anything that is easy to set up, use and move around works best for me. Something is better than nothing.
Amen to that. Nice hearing from you again man. Can't forget that username
@@hybridresistance you're welcome 😊. I'm still alive and kicking. Seasons greetings.
Mike the incline Row attachment at the end of the video can that be added to Total Gym?
Unfortunately no, here a link to it along with with my initial review video of it www.tkqlhce.com/click-100402910-14538668 and ruclips.net/video/WnD11B7wGN8/видео.html
Have you created a Total gym vs. a TRX video? I think there are some interesting pros vs. cons there. (Price, portability, difficulty, results, accessibility for conditioning levels, etc)
I almost did awhile back, but to me it's no contest to just how much more I can can stress and target my muscles on a Total Gym. Don't get me wrong, I love suspension trainers for what they are and can do, I just find the sliding benches to be a different animal.
@@hybridresistance completely agree with you here. I’ve owned a TRX for a while and found myself doing the same stuff over again. Total Gym is far better exercise “tool” although at a different price point and not really an apples to apples comparison when it comes to strength training. But things would be interesting to look out how to compare for training balance, agility, core strength, etc.
by the way, great work on these videos !
I'm on a fixed income. Much as I would love a bowflex. I have the total gym apex G5 in my Amazon cart.
My opinion, a Total Gym is much better than a Bowflex.
@@hybridresistance thanks for your feedback 🙂
