Just bought this machine yesterday, so watched your video to ensure I could make a perfect flat white this morning - it certainly didn't disappoint! Thanks for the tips.
Hi great video. Could you tell me what your scales are and where you got them from? Also what are your grind settings please, and how do you tune them? Thanks Chris
Nice one Michael, that's great news. You are going to have so much fun. i am working on few videos about the BE. have you received yours yet? How are you finding it? Btw I just released a video about deep cleaning of the sage grinder. make sure to do it once a month.
Hi yes same machine and learning it. Got cafe francais whittards blend but set on 8 which gives nice crema. Would you suggest lower ? Also without scales does the double give the needed weight ? Thanks
Hi Justin, still enjoying the coffee machine? It's hard to say without seeing the beans as well as how much coffee do you grind, in how long and how much coffee yield do extract. As a rule of thumb for a flat white, I try to grind 19/20 Gr of coffee, in 30 secs and extract 30 Gr of yield coffee. Depending on how slow of fast you extract the coffee, will give you a really good indication to change the grind size for something finer or coarser. I got a coffee scale and found it really helpful at the beginning and would definitely recommend it. How is the cafe francais whittards like?
I’m struggling to get the extract coffee for a flat white amount under 50grams. Grinding 18g beans on a grind setting 4. My extract rate is 25 seconds. Any advice on getting less extracted coffee and getting it to over 30seconds?The pressure is high with the gauge around 1pm on the scale
When timing the yeild to 28 seconds for 30g do you include the ore infusion in that time? For the love of me i cant get 30g in in 28 seconds at all! My pressure gauge goes to 12 oclock perfectly but i pour 30g in around 15 seconds. As soon as i try a finer grind the pressure gauge goes to max and the coffee tastes horrible
I usually don't pay much attention to the gauge. I tend to grind 19g in and get 38g of yield coffee in 28 to 31 seconds. Change the grind size and temper. Make sure to use a scale with timer for consistency. Let me know how it goes
From what I've learned already is that all coffee beans are different. Your best to weigh out 18g and then pull a manual shot and aim for 36-40g of liquid. The preprogrammed shots aren't always accurate. You should pick time/weight as they don't both go together
I was under the impression that you steam the milk 1st so the shot stays warm? Also can advise how you know you got the correct amount of grams into the portafilter?
I usually use the Grind size 4 or 5, depending on the coffee beans. I've never been above 6 otherwise the coffee comes out too quickly and is watery. Which coffee machine do you have and what grind size do you have?
Hello! I want to buy the sage machine for my partners birthday as he loves a professionally made flat white and has to go out for one. Is it worth me getting the pro? Or as it will be used predominantly for flat white shall I just stick with the original one? Thank you!
Hey Beenieee, what a lovely present for your partner. Both machines are really good. If money isn't an issue I would probably go for the pro the main reson is the steam wand is better on the pro than the barista. That being said, I really like the barista express looks a bit retro and the gauge as well. What coffee machine did you have before? You can definitely make a flat white with both. I have a few more videos on the channel. geni.us/5f5A Let me know what you are going to go ahead with?
Thanks for getting back so fast! This will be the first coffee machine. My partner is very fussy about his flat white so i’m trying to find the best possible option 😂
I’m not really sure to be honest, whatever makes a really good flat white really! I assume a proper coffee bean coffee machine is the way to go instead of the smaller machines that require the pods
@@beenieeex8328 agreed with you. You will make better coffee. You can go with the pro. Dropped you a link above. Great machine. Just make sure you get some fresh roasted specialty coffee and you will make great flat whites. Where are you based? Let me know when you get the coffee machine. If you have questions do not hesitate happy to help but rest reassured with this machine you can't go wrong
What size is your cup? I have a 6oz cappuccino cup from Nespresso and traditional flat white recipes call for that but your cup looks bigger. Was just curious.

Hi! I've used 18 grams coffee beans as well, but got 53 grams of coffee at the end, any advice on what should I do to make it exactly same as yours? TT
Hi Zhi, I would grind 20/22grams of coffee beans, temper harder and change the grind size. What's your current grind size? Which coffee machine have you got?
I am working on a new video with the Dual Boiler and will show the gauge. Stay tune. Is there anything you would like to see? Which home set up do you have?
Hi there! I'm totally new to the espresso making world and I'm considering the Barista Express. However, I have also looked at the Barista Pro which, with its improved steam wond, sounds quite appealing to me as I am a huge fan of lattes. My coffee needs vary so I don't necessarily drink coffee every day. Do you have any tips on which machine to consider? Obviously the Pro is more expensive ;-) I will be looking at discount prices for the two... Stay safe! - Daniel
hey, do you drink espresso only or coffee milk drinks? how many coffee a week? Are you looking for a coffee maker with grinder integrated ideally? what's your budget? I can then guide you.
@@TheFrenchReview Thanks for replying! I only drink milk based drinks - at least for now. Maybe, I will learn to drink espresso one day ;-) How much coffee I drink varies a lot. But somewhere around 4-10 cups a week depending on how many days I'm studying from home I would guess. When I have family or guests over I also like to make coffee for them. I would prefer a coffee maker with an integrated grinder as my kitchen space is a bit limited. My budget is around 650 EUR give or take. :)
@@TheFrenchReview I'm loving it. Really nice smooth coffee every brew. Need to start measuring my brew weight but don't want to waste all the delicious espresso 😋
Hey Luke, No this one is the flat white. 30g of coffee and 120ml of coffee. Vert tasty. Usually for a latte I would add an extra 50ml of milk. What's your go-to drink?
It’s neither a latte or flat white. You should never extract the espresso first, it should always be last. You have about 20 seconds IF THAT to add milk or water. Failing that the drink will taste bitter and tasteless.
