11:04 is actually a guitar overdubbed to all of the tracks playing backwards (by turning the multitrack tape over, or Keith Harwood or Ron Nevison reversed the tape machine) and then, the overdubbed guitar is going to be played backwards when mixed when multitrack tape is returned to original direction. A reverb swell was added (possibly in real time) to give the unsuspecting listener the perception of the guitar coming at you as the reverb decreases when played backwards in the mix. I 11:08 discovered this almost 40 years ago by removing the belt from the servo motor pulley on my turntable to find all of this backwards masking that was rumored to send subliminal messages on music. The strobe light that was projected onto the alternating black and polished aluminum squares would indicate correct r.p.m. by appearing to stand still, the same principle as a timing light used to set the timing of a car engine that had a distributor cap. If you don’t have a belt driven turntable, a 4-track cassette recorder will do in a pinch to verify this. If you are using digital, hopefully you have a digital multitrack machine or Pro Tools to reverse tracks to verify or debunk my claim. This is a good video to learn this song. It will probably be one of four or five I’ll have to utilize to finally nail this one down. I don’t know why that eleven minute, eight seconds reference in here, doesn’t show on screen when I edit comment.
Howard you have a great manner in the way you teach online. It feels like it is a very individual lesson. You do not just throw tabs at the poor student but you use them as part of your explanation. There is a real connect between what I am looking at and what I am hearing.
Thanks so much for the kind comment, and for checking out the channel. I'm so glad you've found it enjoyable. I love playing and teaching. Starting 24/7 Guitar has been very fulfilling - All the best to you
This is the best lesson I have seen on this song. You have a great method and style. The audio, video and your instruction is super clear. The pacing is great too. I'm saving this one to work on. Those are a few of my fav, iconic Zep licks. Thanks
One of the best lessons i had in all my live, objetictive, without a lot of information for no musicians like me. I just play, i am no intersted in theory. In short: Excellent. Greatings from Brasil.
I really love your videos, great laid back teaching style , you’re my go to when I wAnt to learn a song, especially Zeppelin, I’ve always loved Page’s meshing of jazz chords into his songs,,takes the song in another direction then returns to its rock foundation
Love your Zeppelin tutorials Mr. Hart. Clear, concise and easy to follow! I have a request for one of my favorite Zeppelin songs from Led Zeppelin III-Since I've Been loving You. Would love to hear your interpretation of it. Cheers!👍👍
Hey your doing great on these tunes...Physical Graffitti unreal material...I like that your using the old Page telecaster..Excellent guitar as well as your teachings...jam onn...
Thank you very much for the video, I've learnt from it. Although I do not agree with some parts and I would like to open them for discussion here but I'm unable lol. Cheers!
Believe it or not, I pulled out an old Genesis 1 and went straight into the board. I just couldn't capture that sound with any of my amps... The Boogie came the closest. I used the Brit Stack setting with the gain at about 12:00 plus
This is a cracking track and a great one to play. It's just a shame we can't all have our own pet John Henry Bonham because he's a total monster on this. The guitar's not nearly as tricky as it sounds, and it sounds really cool when played confidently and relaxed - you just need to get in the groove. Try a chorus and tremolo to approximate the sound for the "jazz section".
Great lesson! Did (does) Jimmy Page hybrid pick? Or just flat pick? I’ve got a fair amount country finger style background so most of this is easier for me with hybrid.
I'm always down with whatever works :-) I've seen so many players change their original fingerings over time... or modify a riff as it evolves in live performance.
It is often referred to as simply a Diminished chord, with the Ab being a 'given' - Much like 13ths and 9ths containing the Dominant 7th. For better or worse, even many online Chord Generators will label it a Diminshed. Bm7(b5) which raises the Ab to A, is often referred to as a Half Diminished... Go figure :-)
This is one of those Zeppelin songs that proves how consistently good they are

Love your lessons and insight Howard; especially, all the Led Zeppelin (there is Led Zeppelin..and then there is everybody else 😌)

Thank you - Page is THE man!
Thank you Howard, you sure know your zeppelin. This is one of my favorite rockers and and the meaning of the lyrics make it. Peace.
I love your take on this song!!! Fairly easy to follow
Great lesson Howard. Thank you. Could you theach the solo too? Even with some adaptation. Thanks.
Just got a butterscotch blonde Tele the other day. Gonna have to learn this one!🤘

Thank you :-)
good lesson.
Great lesson 👍
Nice lesson!
Is there any chance of showing what your amp setting are.
Great sound!

Howard Hart drawing his tutorial power directly from Lucifer.
Good job
Thanks so much
"Thrash style".....I like that! Awesome lesson!!
I like it thrash style too! :-)

Hybrid is totally fine... whatever it takes:-) Jeff Beck tossed out the pick entirely years ago, and he sounds great
The thumbs down votes were from several disgruntled players who couldn't play past the opening riff. ;-)
:-)
Southdown Suarez please
Right?? Such an underrated song from the lads!
Southbound Saurez please
How you doing Howard? Hey what do you think about playing the open g with the with 5d on the opening riff?
I'm always down with whatever works :-) I've seen so many players change their original fingerings over time... or modify a riff as it evolves in live performance.
7:20
Question..which way does page play it
Hi - I don't think I've ever seen a clip of Jimmy playing this one? If it's out there, I'd love to see it. It would be nice to know
Answer... Probably different every single time..
Sliding that chord shape up chromatically in the "jazz" section doesn't sound right by my ears...but other than that great lesson
You're not playing Bdim, you're playing Bdim7. The G# should be B for a Bdim
