Have a look at the displays and you will see that there is no different between the cheaper units and others. Same indicator box, same electronics and very likely all made in the same place with the same parts. Some get there company wording etc added but in the end they are all the same. Search and choose wisely.
This is what the original website says: "Beware! A few of our 1st generation GIpro X-type units are offered by some Chinese companies. They use various branding and logos, including HealTech, Honda, Kawasaki, etc. The product looks similar but it has an old firmware, the quality of the components and assembly is poor, the function/performance is lacking, the reliability is weak and warranty is not backed up. Due to poor design and assembly it may damage your bike's ECU. Always be sure to purchase an original GIpro X-type unit from an authorized HealTech distributor or dealer. If you have any doubts, please contact the distributor in your country. Only we (HealTech) make gear indicators with touch control + light sensor and the with latest signal processing tech. None of the clones offer these features thanks to the unique security authentication chips we use in the G2 series." This is the reason I didn't purchase the gear indicator from eBay, being afraid of not damaging my ECU but I think you are right, it is the same product, only cheaper. Every review I read about this product is positive. I will buy one as well.
I found out how to program this but start this on atleast 3 blocks of straight road to ride without stopping: Put the bike first in neutral- once you have it plugged into the ecu turn on the over- Hit the kill switch of your bike to on- The indicator should say L- Start your bike and from a stop shift into 1st- Let go of the clutch and ride in 1st gear while its flashing the number 1- It will then flash into a small letter N- When it does that IMMEDIATELY SHIFT into 2ND GEAR- ride in 2nd gear until its done flashing and turns from a number 2 to a small letter N- Then shift into 3rd and ride in 3rd gear until its done flashing and turns to a small letter N- Keep doing this all the way through until 6th gear these same steps and once you get to 6th gear ride out the gear till its a solid 6 and its not flashin a number 6. Then it will be program and done :) if you mess up while trying to do this and you get stuck at a stop sign or red light. Pull over and turn off the bike. Turn the key over and hit the kill switch on and then off about 6-7 times until it starts with the letter L. Then you can try to program the gears again. The programming must be done without stopping from 1st-6th gear :)
I need some help. i connected mine on my cbr 600 F3 from 98. It does blink L slowly but not fast when i start the engine. when i have the wheel off the ground and engage first gear the indicator circles and thats it. any help? Green wire is not connected cant find where to get my neutral from could this be the issue?
My question is does it detect when you are stopping and if for some reason you drop like 2 or 3 gears while still holding the clutch will it go to the correct gear?
Yes it will detect the stop and dropping gears with the clutch depressed. It won't actually show the gear until the clutch is pulled out and the gear is engaged. At a stop it simply shows a dash line -
I installed this on my cbr600rr and it it blinks "L" a couple times then goes to blinking "F". Not sure if it's a defective unit or what but was wondering if anyone else was having this issue
I got one for my crf250l and it has different plugs than yours and also an individual wire that looks like it would need to be spliced in somewhere. Not comfortable with cuting up wires in my bike so I'll probably just return it.
If I understand you right, yes it needs to be above idle, More importantly I believe you have to be moving in order for it to show what gear you are in.
So the color is unchangeable, if it is how do you do that? I just bought one off eBay and it’s red. The description said it could be changed. No big deal if it’s not changeable. Especially for $30us.
Thanks for the video, wasn't clear what to do. Bought one directly from China for $27. Before watching the video it wasn't giving me the right gears... it was cause I skipped the learning part.
My dad’s Honda cb300f goes 77-83 mph max in the way it came from the store and I see some cb300f’s hitting 90+ on RUclips. Do you think it’s cause I got to upgrade some aspects or do you think my dad asked them to restrict the motorcycles speed through the electronics if that’s possible? (When he got it, he knew we were going to ride it)
Mine can also go 80 plus miles per hour. I think to go faster some people change the sprocket sizes. In your case this is what somebody might have done if this was a used CB300F. If for example, you decreased the rear sprocket you would lower your top end speed. There may be some other electronic wizardry that someone else could do but I don't know about that.
Does anyone have a 2017 honda Grom ? I don't know if my indicator is faulty or I'm missing something. First of all, as soon as I turn it on, it goes through the 6,5,4,3,2,1 like in the video, but doesn't flash slowly, instead it flashes fast as if I've started the bike.. And even when the bike is still not started, it'll ask for the first gear, and get stuck there flashing in first gear learning mode. Now I thought that if I turn the bike on and try putting it in first gear, it would work, but it doesn't. It stays stuck in first gear forever, no matter how much I rev it, drive it, etc...
G Francis Not really. Remember its one big panel. The clips and velcro make it feel really stuck. Just double check all bolts are out before you pull. I started pulling from the front section and finished removing toward to rear. Pay attention to how the rear area inserts as it overlaps with a panel and when putting it back in you need to do the reverse for a proper fit.
Hello there Big Booty Bludi. I thought of doing this already a few weeks back. I am a time traveler. OP, this is not a message for you, this is a message for my homie.
It's a nice gadget but in my opinion electronics on bikes make people stupid, uneducated and lazy. I always know in what gear I'm in, it's like a brain exercise for example I'm in the 6th gear and I down shift 2 gears so I know. And also I know by the sound of the engine compared to the speed of the bike.
It can be helpful for those of us who are new riders or who might have ADHD/memory issues. It’s easy to forget the gear I’m in when I am so focused on everything else around me.
Ordered and installed this little gem on my daughter's 2015 CBR300R today - flawless! Great recommendation LA! So easy even a RUclipsr could do it ;)

This was the only video that helped me figure this out, Thanks
That's great!
What happens during learning if i have a 5 speed and it tells me to go to 6?
this kits is driving me crazy on my 21 CRF450RL can get it to take me to 2... ugh
Did it work for you eventually?

I'm gonna get one of these - thanks for the video
I just bought the exact same motorcycle. Thanks for this video!
I put one on my 500x and it works perfect. 35 bucks and well worth it.
Brandon Smisek nice!
Thanks! Installed it without any issues
Great!
Great
thanks for this. btw, since you put out this video, the price has increased to CAD$50. lol
Lex Bautista Too bad! It does fluctuate in price. Still for $50 not bad
Lex B now it’s $64
Its ramping up like bitcoin
It's $70 now.
Thanks, buying this for my CB300R 👍
enjoy! still works like a charm.
did it work well with ur cb300r?
yahoo911emil I've had one on my 2019 CB300R for about two years and have had zero problems with it.
@@dylandog1289how did you program it? After 5 gear what did you do?

Thank you
The red has been really good. I would think white but also be fairly good as well.

Is there a delay from when you shift to what is being displayed?
It's pretty fast to detect the gear. I wasn't annoyed by any lag.
Doesn't seem so slow in klicks lol
Instead of putting it on top, that's where you should put your radar, they fit PERFECTLY!
Haha. That wasn't a 60km zone... :)
How does the red light do in the sun?
Honestly not bad. I don't find that I can't see it unless the sun's directly over top of me.

Oh no! Sorry to hear that. I guess it's the old-fashioned counting method.
@Mark Molinari 2013
So you need to be above idle even for it to indicate after install correct?

I don't have mine to check for you. Gave it away to a viewer but hope someone can help.

It should. But I can't say for certain.
What year is that cb300f? I have a 2015 cbr300r and I think that they are pretty much the same as far as wiring runs as the CB models.
This is the 2017 model so yes I think they will compatible

No. It shouldn't considering it it linked to the ignition.

Will this work with my 2000 cbr600f4?
You'd have to check the list from the manufacturer on a Amazon or eBay. They have a list there.
Will it work with the cbr300r?
The new one? I don't know. It's the same engine I believe. I can't say for sure but if I had to guess I would say yes.
@@LadybugAdventures I'll probably try it if I end up getting a cbr just because it's cheap and low risk. Good video btw 👍
Thanks buddy Good luck with it.
When you are programming it and going thru the gears, does the rear wheel need to spin?
Yes. That's why you have to either put it up on a rear stand or program it while driving.
This is awesome! EXACTLY what I was looking for!
excellent. Still working for me.
Does it have to be programmed on the stand only ? Thanks
No you can program it while riding. Just make sure you have a fairly long stretch that is uninterrupted.

Definitely not a necessity to have a gear indicator. I agree that going by the sound is also a valid method to know your gearing.
I feel the same way about people who leave negative comments on RUclips.
It can be helpful for those of us who are new riders or who might have ADHD/memory issues. It’s easy to forget the gear I’m in when I am so focused on everything else around me.
