Yo Josh just want to say that you are amazing. I have watched all of your videos and I mean all of them. We love your channel and your vibe. Have an amazing day.
Hi. I did the ferry from Rome to Catania in 1958!!! That was before the flights were started . I was 8 yrs old and it was a steam locomotive!!! Then in Catania, seeing Etna the volcano was so beautiful and memorable!!!
I'm italian, and also live in Milan! I take this trip every year because in Sicily I have relatives of mine!! So some years ago I used to go by train like you in this video, but now I go by car because for me it's better. But this experience in train is the most beautiful in the world!
When you were talking about sprinting it brought back memories 🤣 i got so lost in that same train station two years ago and had to run and was last to board my train !😂
WOW! Josh, that looked a bit of a tough ride there! Although, used to seeing you on aircraft, the terrestrial way has it's benefits which air travel misses out on, the passing scenery. Traveling terrestrially gives a better sence of actually 'being' in and a part of whatever country you are passing through. If you're flying you only get a beautiful view of the Italian clouds! Lovely video, as alwase. Keep going mate!
Loved it especially the background music. Like a scene out of Buona Sera Mrs Campbell expecting Gina Lollobrigida to appear at the door! . I could travel with you all year, Josh😊😘
Actually stazione centrale in Milan is one of the only station of that period that can be seen nowadays. In fact, it was built in 1931 under the dictator Mussolini and during that age, infrastructure were built using roman and greek features. This kind of architecture is called neoclassical-fascist.
I love this video. You are so chill and chatty and natural compared to when you do a flight review. But of course that is understandable. Great vlog Josh.
As a boy my family and I traveled by train, as my father worked for the railroad. As a senior I travel by train all the time now. Love your video!! More Please!!
Great Job Josh! Love the beauty of the countries you went through by train. I was lucky enough to work out of Palermo back in the 80s. Loved the city and the people were great. I loved to be able with the shop owners to haggle about the price of a item in their stores since most of them were family businesses they told me the prices were not set in stone. I also remember a prison being there and they had a armored personnel vehicle that circled the prison 24/7. Thanks again Josh and be safe in your travels!
Yes, Josh! More trains! I love them. I was in Milan in May of 2019. Gorgeous city and the train station is stunning. Such a beautiful country. I would love to take this journey -- although no a/c, no running water and broken toilets . . . hmmm. I certainly hope you had a functioning toilet somewhere in your car! Thanks for the video -- I hope we'll see more of your stay in Palermo!
toilets were not broken, the train staff close them while aprocing boarding on the Ferry. Come on, on a train that travels more than 20 hours, they can't all be broken, if it really happened now I could read it in the newspapers. Same thing for the air conditioning, if it works in one cabin, it must also work in the other, there are air intensity regulators in each cabin, it was enough to adjust it higher.
Great video Josh and yes the Milan Central station is magnificent !! Amazing trip Josh...really enjoyed it mate !! Italy is beautiful as long as things work !! At least the trains run on time !! Thanks again and stay safe and well !!
Video was lots of fun. You are a good sport -no working loo, no water, no dining car. Better you than me. Now I know what train to skip. What you don't do for your fans like me. Thankxxx!!
Sicily has also some surprising rolling stock which is not found in Italy, such as the E464 locomotives now used for intercity trains (in Italy they are only for regional trains), and old E655/E656 and D443 locomotives
I think trains are super underrated. While today everything is about flying I think trains should definitely supported, they offer more comfort at a lower price and are much, much better for the environment. And the best of all is that you can enjoy the scenery!
No man. They are much more expensive, that is the main issue. A price drop in train tickets would lead to many more people opting for this better and more mindful way of travelling.. But as it's almost always the case, being environmentally mindful comes with a cost.
Looks like a fun ride. My longest train trip was from Freiburg in southwestern Germany to Istanbul. Took 56 hrs....two trains during the first 12 hrs, then one only for the rest of the trip... (was in 1986 through what was then Yugoslavia)
Yup did that trip, shared a cabin with a Pizza maker, truck driver and a guy that slept....... We talked all the way from Rome to Palermo, crossing the Messina straight whilst the sun rose, unforgettable.
I'm old enough to have experienced the D390/391 "Alfred Nobel" (Hamburg - Stockholm / - Oslo, split up in Helsingborg). Service ended after summer 1994. Was great thing. Later, there were IC3 from DSB running the service Hamburg - Copenhagen and a night train Copenhagen - Stockholm / - Oslo (split up in Helsingborg). Still great. Great railway times!
Thanks for the vlog and the vicarious glimpse of Messina to Palermo. This week I should have been arriving back in NZ from a holiday in Sicily (and Malta) so your vlog was indeed timely! Alas, all I have as a reminder is a credit and a booking ref from EK. Still, it's great to be alive and the antipodean summer is approaching. Hopefully by mid next year COVID is history. Stay safe, stay strong.
Thank you for the video. There are two long distance train trips i would like to do: Adelaide to Darwin (Australia ) and the Blue Train in South Africa. Have a fabulous day!
Have had many an exciting train journey. Pretty much grew up in and around trains. My father was the Minister Railways and trains were like second home as a child. And of course amazing memories of the Euro Rail as part of my honeymoon…from France, through to the Italian Alps and then Spain. Don’t know which I love more…planes or trains.
There used to be a train from Hoek of Holland to Kopenhagen that went on the ferry between puttgarden and rodby. North West express. I don't think it is still operating.
Damn I so badly wanted to see you doing the helicopter in your cabin :-) I want to go with the sleepter train to Vienna next month. Hope I feel a more healthy untill then.
LOL I can't believe you said "do the helicopter", LOL I have never seen a video o people travelling in South America via trains. Either Brazil or Argentina it would be just amazing to see that.
Awesome video Josh and the scenery was stunning I did not even know a train would fit on a ferry very interesting thanks so much for doing this trip all the best to you!
Josh: I watched various narrations of Yours not on my computer, so I could not leave a comment. But all of Your reports were very interesting in content and top notch filmed. Thank You very much.
I wish I could have personally looked after you on a flight because I really enjoy your vlogs. Unfortunately I’ve left BA now, we all love your vlogs though so don’t stop! Brad🙏❤️
Hello Josh.. Very interesting video. Nice suprise. Good that you had a good time on the train. Malaysia used to have 1st class sleeping room for 2 person. This video i can relate some experience as i used to take the train to Penang and Singapore. From economy to 1st class to sleeping coach to your own room. Something about travelling on the train make me so nostalgic... good video...maybe next time suprise us with a bus ride sleeping coach...
Hi Josh, For a once in a lifetime rail journey, try the North Yorkshire Moors railway in the UK. It’s a steam railway that operates to Whitby, a stunning coastal town with a famous abbey. The nearest airport is Leeds Bradford LBA.
Nice video! I’ve been on few long distance train trips - never been a fan - but they can be fun? Your joke about Italians and the war, reminded me of a train trip from Venezia to Milano. We day tripped to Venezia and on the return there was thunder storm with lighting. He heard a boom and the train crawled to a stop 😳 There was a young German couple travelling in our cabin and we decided to make a quick ‘picnic’? We had bought some bread, cheese and cured meats and the couple had wine and sweets! We all had a great time. I saw a RR worker and decided to ask how much longer we would be stopped and said ‘venti minuti signori’. I told my new German friend, he said twenty minutes (mind you we had been stopped an hour) and he responded dead pan: an Italian twenty minutes? I just busted out laughing. Anyway, your train report jogged my memory! Cheers.
Josh, because of covet there are no restaurants and bathrooms on the train. Or is this the normal and what do you do when you got to go to the bathroom.?
If I'm not mistaken, nonfunctional plumbing happens a lot on that train, and no a/c except when actually running. Other than the unique ferry ride, I'm not sure what this train has to offer.
Does anybody know about Snälltåget, the other night train service that takes a ferry? I know they have a direct connection via land from next year but are they keeping the ferry service as well?
There’s a night train from Sweden to Germany that goes on a ferry. (It’s on a very very old train, not as nice as this one in Italy.) It was about 35°; seemed hotter in that train.
Josh, you can also take the train and the ferry when you travel from Germany to Denmark- The train "goes" inside the ferry and then sails from Puttgarden in Germany to Rødby in Denmark.
Sorry, not anymore. The last service via the Rødby-Puttgarden ferry ran In December of 2019. All service Copenhagen-Hamburg is via Jutland now, and will be until the Fehrman tunnel opens.
The overnight ferry from Naples to Milazzo, calling in at the Aeolian Islands including Stromboli is fun you can also take a ‘volcanic bath’ at Vulcano! BTW whats a “helicopter”?
You need to try the California Zephyr from Chicago to the San Francisco Bay Area on Amtrak. It’s a very beautiful trip. And the dining is pretty decent.
Thx for the vid. Enjoyed it very much. Most scenic train ride? (1) NZ South Island between Picton and Christchurch, and (2) ITALY between Genova and La Spezia. Most comfortable overnight ride? GERMANY between Berlin and Munich.
Hi Josh. Lovely scenic route. If you get to Australia..try The Ghan, or The Indian Pacific....both trains travel for several days traversing Australia. And both have water and working toilets ! Was it just the toilet in your carriage that didn't work, or all the toilets on the train?
Night train from Tbilisi (Georgia) and Yerevab (Armenia)! Downside: they wake you up aggressively in the middle of the night when crossing the border...

“You can do the helicopter” a voice that speaks for all men
xD
Come to Norway. It's lovely scenery. Great options like hurtigruta, Widerøe. Train from Oslo to Bergen, Flåmsbanen and Mitch much more.
stephan storvestre to cold & far too expensive
Facts I'm from norway nice seeing you brother
Italy better, but I love Norway too
Hello Josh, "you gotta be good, or your gone". You are a born actor, with wonderful charisma. I love you show very much! Kenneth Brohard

Really enjoyed this train review, please do more and you seemed much more relaxed.
I took the night train from Rome to Siracusa last November. I miss Sicily!
@Michael John Dennis Just for the experience :)
"That is stunning" says Josh, pretending to look at the station while actually looking at the poster with the woman wearing white bikini 😂😂😂
he was checking out for Italian men.
Yeah, me too
You don’t know Josh all that well if you think he was looking at that! 😂
@@swansbear Hahaha. Just what I thought.
@@swansbear Well Josh has a girlfriend
Very much enjoyed this Josh and echoes my own "bouncy" experience on Italian trains with the water off and strikes along the way :)
It certainly was stunning and the station was stunning as well, also well done Italian railways something else on my bucket list to do

It used to be a great station. Had a complete restyling something like 10 years ago, and now has lost all of its charm.
I love this video. You are so chill and chatty and natural compared to when you do a flight review. But of course that is understandable. Great vlog Josh.
As a boy my family and I traveled by train, as my father worked for the railroad. As a senior I travel by train all the time now. Love your video!! More Please!!
Please tell me I’m not the only one who got excited when Josh mentioned ‘running around the cabin naked’ and ‘doing the helicopter’!

Tip from one of those old lady travellers; I always have a package of wet wipes to freshen up and to clean areas around me.
Nice. This is way more cool than when my Greyhound bus got onto a ferry in the US.
I have been a few over night trains but my favourite was Helsinki to Rovaniemi in Finland ❤
I love your videos.

really enjoyed the change in review, keep it up!
this video makes me remind of my train rides in India which was for 36 hours and it was lonely most of the time
One of the most relatable things is the lack of water while travelling and how that becomes all you think about. Great vid as always!
Usually the train staff sells water and snacks, but this might currently be limited because of Covid...
I had a 36 hours train ride in China, like as you said that the view always the best. But I will not travel by train for that long again.
I really enjoyed your train journey. It's funny to see you on a train instead of a plane. I enjoyed it never the less.
Thank you brother for your hard work thank you brother
so much humour in this one 😂😂should do more of these series 😍
I like the music playing in the background 👍❤! Where can I find it🤔?

London Athens 1962 , no cheap air flights and 3 days in a train late July!!! Well I was 18.

If you get to Australia..try The Ghan, or The Indian Pacific....both trains travel for several days traversing Australia.
And both have water and working toilets !
Was it just the toilet in your carriage that didn't work, or all the toilets on the train?
Just found your channel. Loved the video , new subscriber here
Thanks Josh. You are legend to me
What is the internet like on the train? Both fast and reliable? Can digital nomads actually work on the train effectively?
Night train from Tbilisi (Georgia) and Yerevab (Armenia)! Downside: they wake you up aggressively in the middle of the night when crossing the border...
I've always wanted to take a loooooong train trip.
Is Trenitalia trolling, or just adding thoughtful design features with that mirror in Josh's compartment? Mezzaluna or mezzogiorno?
The AirBNB is super cute!!! Perfect place for a staycation!
