Take your finger nail and scratch the frame anywhere on it. You will find it as dipped in a black wax and over the next couple of years you will see it less and less. Then you will see rust The first thing to rust through is the back cross member. I don’t drive my truck in salt but they all rust after the wax is gone. I spray my frame with fluid film which has to be applied every two years. Frame coating is what they need to address being that they cost half of a house.
I’m about to pick up a new truck in a few days. With winter just around the corner, Fluid Film will be done soon. I’m glad that Eric O on South Main Auto turned me onto it. Last fall I applied FF to my wife’s Jeep.
Tbh the wax is still the best of the bunch. Working in the rust belt, I always prefer a 10 year old gm to similarly aged ram or Ford. GM seems to use a higher grade fastener. Yeah, the wax is semi permanent. The frames on the 2500hds tend to outlast the body even when the coating is gone. You can always reapply it, or apply undercoating, fluid film, nh oil etc
Fog lights are designed for foggy conditions and bright lights in fog are counter active for visibility. It is actually a smart feature. If you have fog lights on it assumes it is foggy and thus prevent the high beams from automatically coming on and making it harder to see (if it was foggy)
I just don’t think I could buy a modern diesel truck these days. Aside from the increase in diesel costs as of late, all of the upkeep when parts start breaking just isn’t worth it to me. Not to mention all of the emissions crap that just restricts these engines, I’ll take the naturally aspirated 6.2L.
The one small feature that I really like on my 22 High Country 3500 SRW LB, if you are towing with the Tow Haul turned on, and shut down for fuel, to eat or whatever, if you start up within 4 hours, the Tow Haul is still active. I had a 2006 SLT 3500, I pulled a 5th wheel to Alaska and back to Florida, and was stopping for fuel 5 and 6 times a day (you don't want to pass an open fuel stop), and a couple times I forgot to turn the Tow Haul back on and the transmission temp would climb. I had an 18 Denali Dually and you had to turn it back on also. The 2022 High Country 3500 SRW is the best by far of the 3 Duramax trucks that I've owned. All were LB, the Dually was good for towing but not very good for shopping trips etc. I really liked your review
Just an FYI, I have a GMC Sierra AT4 3500, and it came with a tiny fuel tank. You can drop on a Titan fuel tank for much greater range. My 36-gallon fuel tank was anemic when pulling my 42-foot fifth wheel, so I dropped in a 56 gallon. You can go larger with your 8 foot bed...
Funny you should mention the Tow/Haul mode. My F150 tells me every time I start it that I have a trailer attached but I have to manually change drive modes. Quite a small but rather annoying technology gap.
Awesome review of the truck! I have a 2021 3500 High Country and I am very happy with it other than the brakes, they flat out suck and had a recall on the rear pads which still didnt resolve it! But I am surprised you do not like the LED lights, I think they are great! Especially when you need forward light or rear light when parked in a field. Also, with that big of a truck, add a train horn like I did, people will know you are coming and get out of the way! The bluetooth in this truck is awesome, even has a microphone above the passenger side which can be helpful at times. Im at 35k and still learning little tricks on the software side and having a ton of fun driving this truck. I prefer it over my Ram 3500 Dually which I work out of most of the time! Keep on rolling and let us know what else you find as you go!
I have a 2021 and i absolutely HATE the lights. I am so sick off playing the flash game with aholes in little cars. I would take the old school bulbs just so im not annoyed anymore😡 95k on it

If you took the time to actually educate yourself on function of the truck which is pretty standard on all gm lines. There is a console organizer from, gm. There are better floor mats, your biggest pet peeve is the wipers? You havent figured out how to hit the audio button so your full screen shows the xm artist and song? PS you can adjust the mirror so its view is closer or further away. And the radio should play from a remote start. C mon man

One of you guys let me know when you find that absolutely perfect anything will you? Hard seats for one person is not for another. If GM had made them softer, then someone would be complaining they're too soft. In one sentence he's complaining about not having adaptive cruise control and in the next sentence he's complaining about adaptive cruise control leaving to big a gap between him and the next car, and putting on the brakes too much. NO VEHICLE IS PERFECT.
A lot of what you discussed is why I bought a 2018 Ram 2500 Cummins 6.7. I could not be happier but there are a few things that must be done to get the full life out of the truck. That goes for any recent diesel pickup.
2017 ram 2500 diesel is literally the best vehicle I've ever owned. Was a fool to sell it and upgrade to the new body style. Like the new truck but I absolutely loved that 17 model.
Good review. I’ve got the ‘21 GMC Sierra 2500HD AT4 w/the 6.6L gasser. Love it! Terrible gas mileage but better than I expected, 13-15 city, 17-20 hwy. I haven’t experienced most of the issues you mentioned but you nailed the 3 things that drive me nuts: HUD is visible with polarized glasses but just barely. Defiantly not an ideal situation. The rear view camera is an awesome feature for almost doubling your view behind you but for me to use it I have to take off my glasses, ugh🤦♂️. And the #1 issue is indeed that sorry ass clown horn. My wife’s Jeep Grand Cherokee sounds way better than this thing. And they have that whimpy ass thing tucked in the passenger side so well surrounded by metal that I’ve actually had people on the drivers side drift into my lane and never hear the horn. Anybody know of a good horn upgrade that isn’t a air horn? Bet you could make a fortune selling them.
He obviously hasn't thought about the fact that Car play nor Android auto aren't going to ever work right with these new technological vehicles. Too many different vehicle and too many different brand and model phones for it to ever be right. Also that review mirror has a zoom on it. And my 2022 3500 LTZ Duramax does has the passenger side floor mat clips. And who cares about your fog lights coming on automatically. How often do you need fog lights. I think I'm going to call this guy Mr. Nick-Picky. :)

Frankly it doesn't like the short hops to the grocery store, gun range or starsucks. but if I have to go to the airport 25 miles away, all by freeway, I'll hit 15-16 easy. in fact I had a pallet if water in it, about 2000 lbs, and I got 16 mpg! it has long legs and at a touch over 7K lbs curb weight its easy to feel comfortable at way too fast

Mine did the same it was actually a corroded contact on the plug to the heater close to the tank . Dealer tech took it apart cleaned it and is working fine now while I’m also waiting for a replacement tank . 2020 2500HD with 40 K here in Canada
21:38 The heads-up display does work with Polarized sunglasses. I have two pairs (Oakley & Ray-Ban) and both work with the heads-up display on our 2020 2500HD High Country.
Mirrors look like T-Rex arms coming out of the door. I prefer the previous style of being mounted above the door near the window vs below the window on the door. The new lower mounting design does eliminate a blind spot which is nice.
Side view mirrors block significant side field of view. Thanks for an informative video. The side view mirrors on my 2016 Silverado Duramax are good as mirrors however, in my opinion, they are the worst feature of the truck because at intersection or parking areas when I need to see through the side window, a big portion of the view is obstructed by the mirrors. I adjusted the driver's seat all the up till my head was at the ceiling but it's impossible to see over the giant mirrors. I wish they would rotate to landscape as I need to see pedestrians and cross traffic, not the sky.
Add the boost mobile car charger to the center console, also Banks has a lot out for these trucks now and they make the truck Soooo much better, derringer,pedal monster, and idash really wake these trucks up. The banks rear diff cover with amsoil is a must as well. I'm up to 17 mpg with a 12k toy hauler behind me. Go bilstein for the shocks when the ranchos bleed out at 25k. And add aire ride suspension in the back for squat and then it will pull like a dream. Agree on the interiors GM interiors are not great like you said a 98 although I think that's generous I would say 75% for 70k n up come on. Anyway great review. Thanks keep on trucking God bless TX.

Well, y’all gonna hate me but I picked up the new refreshed 2022 Silverado with the 2.7L. It’s been pretty good. I plan on keeping it for a bit, then getting the 6.2L Trail Boss. I’ll leave the 4 banger to the wife. However, the 430 torque is nice.
I am a GM person but you should research lifter failure with the 5.3 and the 6.2. They have similar problems as Ram has with the 5.7 and especially the 6.4. The multi-displacement issue is causing people to lose engines. I would look for a V8 that doesn’t have MDS

I use the truck in my business to haul heavy manufacturing components (electrical) and at the same time need to use the vehicle to take regional managers to customers and manufacturing sites. If my truck was a WT, I'd need to have a second vehicle for transporting customers and regional/technical sales people. This truck allows me to check both boxes. Chips for trucks make up a minuscule percentage of the total chip consumption in the world. If all chips for trucks went away, the global chip shortage would not even notice.
Leaving power on to the 110volt power supply could potentially cause charging issue to the battery particularly during short drives. It’s just good energy management. Have you tried adjusting the headlights angle for better illumination of the road. That can change depending on your load. Perhaps with an empty bed your lights are adjusted too high?
Several of the reasons I used to be the biggest GM fanboy were dependability (above all), value, comparitave performance, and looks. These new ones FAIL in every one of these categories! I absolutely wont buy Ford or Chrysler (or whatever its called for these next 20 minutes!), so I guess I'll just hobble around in these older pre-2008 GMs until they just vaporize as dust in the wind. My issue w/many YT reviews are by owner who “like to be seen in a truck” but have no need for a truck therefore they don’t report what I expect. I want a review from owners who always had a truck & can’t live w/o a truck. So IMO e.g., TFL in reality only provide limited impressions.
@@danniecurlett8702 I am not brand loyal in any way. I did my honest and best effort to compare apples to apples between the big 3. Basically, I tried to choose similar trim and then add in features to make them as "equal" in terms of content as possible. The Ford was basically $6K more and the Ram was just under $4K more. Yes, I know both the Ford and Ram have more BHP and TQ but 445 and 910 is enough for me. So, despite my whining about the $76K sticker, it was actually less than the competition (in my eyes!).
I just ordered a 2023 High Country 2500HD. It is supposed to have adaptive cruise, we shall see. I was hoping for a refresh, but I don’t believe it will happen, maybe 23.4 definitely 2024. Coming up on 150k in my 2011 F250 which is in pristine condition on the outside and interior, but showing her age under the hood. Little stuff, so it’s time. Sadly Ford wants MSRP+. The Chevy with fleet discount is under MSRP. So Chevy it is at least for a couple of years. Won’t see the truck til August.

Sunroof may be a structural issue of a 2500hd truck - the bigger the hole, the less structural it is, especially off road. 120V - it's not a house and out in the weather - if water was to enter into the outlet then.....

Honestly, im not a fan of adaptive cruise control. You're correct. It is made to keep a food distance. People get in that zone, and the vehicle slows down drastically. I have it kn my toyota. I never use it for that reason. I think it's the nature of adoptive cruise control on any vehicle.
I sure get a kick out of people talking about their New Way Overpriced Chevrolet Trucks. I have a 2008 1500 Silverado Work Truck. Single Cab with the 4.8 litre V8. Automatic Transmission Cruise Control and Air Conditioning. This Truck only has 61,000 on it. It is only used for towing my 16ft Jon Boat or moving furniture or awkward sized loads. It has no surface Rust on it and it is 14 and a half years old. When it had 5,000 miles on it during a road trip into upper MN. At highway speeds it was getting 20.66 miles per gallon. New trucks cannot touch that kind of fuel Milage with out all kinds of Fancy Tech. If I was in charge of any of the Big Three Turck Makers I would be embarrassed to Tout anything about my New Vehicle's. Wake Up People!!!! $45,000 to $80,000 for a Pickup Truck. That is INSANE!!!!!!! But to each his own I guess.

Love my truck but how could not mention the extremely large hood that you can't see over. I'm 6'4" and bump things in parking lots because they were so hidden by the large front end.
I think it was a great review and learned a few things that no one else has mentioned like the rear view mirror. I would now drop that from the option list because of my glasses. I had considered a half ton but when pricing it the HD’s are only a few thousand more and the trucks are so much more capable.
Yep. I would not order technology package again. And, that gets you even closer to the 1500 price. It all helps justify the price for the 2500 in my head....ha ha.
I ordered the tech package for the heads up display. The camera mirror is just a bonus. But I don't expect to be able to use it with my quad in my bed since the camera is on the cab. But I'll have to wait and see.
After I wash my 2020 2500HD I just raise the hood to get rid of the water because I'm to lazy to drill a hole where the water collects, but there are RUclips videos on how and where to do it. If you read the owners manual (which you obviously have not) you'll see how to get the outside temp on the instrument cluster. It's in a sub menu using the selector switch on the right side of the steering wheel. You can select time, outside temp, or direction (North, South, East or West) if memory serves. I will have 100,000 miles on my High Country by the end of the week and aside from normal maintenance I've only had to replace the coolant overflow bottle due to a bad sensor. Best truck I've ever owned by far. Take care of it and you'll be happy for many years to come. The one thing I wish I would have gotten sooner is the Banks Derringer with the Idash. Check it out when you get a chance. Happy Truckin.
I have an LTZ. I see in the submenu where I can check and uncheck the box for the compass on the driver information center. It is the only option, in that submenu. There is no option for temp (only compass) which is already displayed on the HUD and on all 3 navigation apps (GM, Apple Maps and Waze). So, I can get the compass displayed in 3 locations but the temp is only displayed by exiting out of CarPlay. With that said, another commenter says there is a new software update that among other things addresses the AutoHigh Beams and Driving Light issue. I've yet to take it in for that but maybe they've added the temp function into the LTZ trim submenu as you describe. And FYI, I read the manual cover to cover when i got the truck and have since reviewed the specific section you reference based on your comments. It's just not in there on my model! I'm an electrical automation programmer/specialist and work with PLC's and VFD's everyday....I know how to get thru menus. Have begun the research on the Banks products but life is VERY busy. Will probably be a while before I get around to it. Thanks for the comments!
Well, yep, there are cheap plastics and they cut some corners...no doubt. That said, I'm still very happy with mine and I hope that came through in the video. Also, when I did an apples to apples comparison, the chevy was about $6K cheaper and I decided I could live with the cheaper interior. Just my 2 cents... Thanks for the comment.
Had a L5P with over 115k miles and never turned a bolt, other than maintenance. Started out with coolant leak which took 4 trips to fix and after that, which started at 100 miles new, nothing wrong. I did change to a cool air intake and it improved it a lot. I have several videos on being in extreme cold (South Dakota)and living in Florida hot. I loved my truck. But moved back to Yukon. After I changed to cold air intake my mileage went up to 22mpg.
Hello Frank, Glad you liked it! Pretty rough on my first attempt...ha! I actually purchased it at John Elway Chevrolet. When I originally placed the order in 2021 they were still part of the Costco Auto program. By the time the truck came in, they had not renewed their 2022 membership but they made good on it. They took $2,500 off of sticker and gave my me the Blue Book trade on my Ford Fusion which had actually increased from early 2020 of $10.4 to $15.5 by October of 2021....go figure and crazy times!!
check to see if your vin falls under the buyback criteria. l5p is such junk gm is buying back several late moel trucks. And the truck they offer for your replacement has even less features because of the chip shortage, even though yours is missing some already.
So not to nitpick or tell you your opinion is wrong but to complain about a feature you can turn off or just plain not use is a little absurd. You don’t have to use the digital camera mirror, you can flip the tab and use it just like a regular mirror. Your not forced to use it, so don’t complain about it is all I’m saying
Well, if I sounded like I was complaining, that was not my intent. I really like the feature and the additional viewing area is awesome. Plus, it really helps with “night vision”. So, it’s a feature that GM bundled with the HUD and I think the combo was over $1200. Point being, I paid for the camera and I really want to use it, you just can’t use it without reading glasses if you’re over 40. I was not aware of that requirement and probably wouldn’t have spent the money. I was just trying to give some other Old Guys a warning…that’s all.
If I don't tow, I get 19.5mpg. When towing both my bumper pull landscaping trailer or surprisingly our 5000lb 5th wheel I'm at about 14mpg. I use the "trip 2" function as my oil trip monitor. I've got about 4600 miles on my current oil change and it's reading 18.4 right now with about 600-650 miles of towing during that 4600 miles....just an FYI
I heard that too. Mine came off the line in late September which is SUPPOSEDLY before the problems. My VIN is not part of the repair/replace going on. We will see!
@@brettjohnson1393 mine is the 5.3 hers is the 6.0 and both gas i got the 5.3 cuz I wanted e85 but both of these trucks have been crap since day one so either buy a 2022 cuz chevy stopped with the V8 V4 fuel saver crap so the engines won't have that problem anymore.
The external temperature displaying on the screen with CarPlay is an issue with Apple. I use Android Auto and by default that is disabled as well. You have to go into the Android Auto settings and enable that option... The auto starting of the last audio selection should work just fine. This is my 5th silverado and they all performed that function just fine from the factory. I just got my 2022 3500 LTZ and this truck works just fine with whatever the last selection was.
Thanks Matt, you're saying your music plays after you've done a remote start? You've actually tried that cuz my dealer told me I have the most current software in my truck.
@@oldguyobservations8724 yes it does, but also I use Android auto and those are all settings that I cane enable/disable via Android auto. So maybe apple carplay either doesn't support it or there is a setting you need to adjust
The android auto temperature readout doesn't come from the truck but rather weather data based on location. My audio plays just fine after a remote start.
Do not turn on auto rear defrost if you have a split rear window. GM still has not fixed the window breaking issue. The auto defrost with remote start does not shut off and will spider rear pass window. Spent 2 months arguing with GM and there is a recall in canada on the same truck but not in US for some stupid reason. They finally installed new window. Was over $1000 You should only ise GM DEF cause of the problems they have had. I tow a gooseneck trailer with mine. I go through at least 20 gallons of diesel exhaust fluid between every oil change.
Sorry but I disagree. I have 1 vehicle for both personal landscaping and towing our 5th wheel while still being able to bring regional sales managers and application engineers to customers. The vehicle has to be "business appropriate" yet still has the functionality for hauling and moving both my bumper pull landscaping trailer and our 5th wheel rv. I could spend $40K for the "purpose of a pickup" as you describe and then still need to spend $35K for a Ford Fusion or Honda Accord. $75K for 2 vehicles or as literally a million people a year (between Ford, GM and Ram) buy 1 vehicle that serves 2 purposes.

After having real bad luck with three vehicles of that brand and since Chevy ruined the Diesel name by modifying their 5.7 l gasoline engine with a Diesel pump, I wouldn't touch anything they offer in their line of crap with a broomstick - never-ever!
That engine was not the same as the 5.7 gas engine. It just shares the same displacement as they could use the same machinery to bore and stroke the engine blocks. The internals and materials are completely different.
Okay Mr. J. Baseline, maybe both of us are correct and the engine I was referring to is the 5.7 l which was converted by Oldsmobile and yes, all they did was adding a Diesel injection pump while leaving everything else the way it was on their gasoline motor. I was sure that Chevy would use the same engine in their other vehicles since they all were part of the GMC-family. Yes, I did have an Oldsmobile Coupe and yes, it did kick the bucket in Los Angelos and I flew back to El Paso many moons ago. I did have a total of three Chevrolet vehicles and each of them was a piece of crap and engines as well as tranny's had to be rebuilt at not too much over 100K and no, I will never ever buy anything from that outfit again and yes the same goes for Harley- Davidson too since, as far as I am concerned, both companies build crap on wheels!
This might be a loaded question but I am about to buy a predawn 2021 0r 2022 denial HD. Does anybody know what type of concerns you might have with the truck going to 200 to 250K miles. Im thinking to keep it a long time.
I used to drive my previous car like a bat outta hell. Now, I'm 70mph in the right lane. I typically get about 22mpg on flat interstate at 70mph. It averages out to 19 or so on most tanks. I find the biggest factor for me is a relatively careful acceleration up to 20 or 25 mph. Seems to pretty dramatically impact my average.

Just purchased my 2500HD Duramax Chevy yesterday. A lot of time researching about getting the gasser or diesel. I figured I have a RV trailer now, if I get diesel, I will no longer struggle going uphill with my 18 1500 at 4MPG at 45 MPH with the little 5.3 screaming. Awesome truck, LT w/z-71 package, although I was not wanting Z-71, but its what they had in stock. This motor is a beast. Mine is the Blue with black interior. Lots of features for LT, (basically ALL-Star package). Plenty of what I want. Dealership was awesome. I know its not the best time to buy, but, I wanted/needed a 2500 that can pull an RV.
I have a 2022 High Country. Totally agree with your comments about the issues. No adaptive cruise control, frustrating about the windshield wipers and no sunroof close for rain detection. It also really frustrates me the Navigation cancels if AirPlay directions pop on. Also, why can’t heads up display show airplay turn by turn directions. Overall the truck is great, lots of power and fun to drive for the size.
I was thinking the same thing. Just bought a 2023 Denali 2500 Ultimate today. Don’t even possession yet. My 1500 AT4 diesel 3.0L I6 and it is optioned like a Denali and has adaptive cruise. Soon as I saw this tonight, I went and looked up the window sticker on the new Denali, and sure enough has all the other safety tech , but says it has that distance monitor, but no mention of adaptive cruise. All I can say is wow, never even thought to look for it. It been on about all my vehicles built in the past 4-5 years . This has been a great review. Lots of info not see/heard anywhere else. Take your finger nail and scratch the frame anywhere on it. You will find it as dipped in a black wax and over the next couple of years you will see it less and less. Then you will see rust The first thing to rust through is the back cross member. I don’t drive my truck in salt but they all rust after the wax is gone. I spray my frame with fluid film which has to be applied every two years. Frame coating is what they need to address being that they cost half of a house.
I’m about to pick up a new truck in a few days. With winter just around the corner, Fluid Film will be done soon. I’m glad that Eric O on South Main Auto turned me onto it. Last fall I applied FF to my wife’s Jeep.
Tbh the wax is still the best of the bunch. Working in the rust belt, I always prefer a 10 year old gm to similarly aged ram or Ford. GM seems to use a higher grade fastener.
Yeah, the wax is semi permanent. The frames on the 2500hds tend to outlast the body even when the coating is gone. You can always reapply it, or apply undercoating, fluid film, nh oil etc

Fog lights are designed for foggy conditions and bright lights in fog are counter active for visibility. It is actually a smart feature. If you have fog lights on it assumes it is foggy and thus prevent the high beams from automatically coming on and making it harder to see (if it was foggy)
I’m sure he meant Driving Lights which ARE intended to be used to help light the road under ALL conditions.

I just don’t think I could buy a modern diesel truck these days. Aside from the increase in diesel costs as of late, all of the upkeep when parts start breaking just isn’t worth it to me. Not to mention all of the emissions crap that just restricts these engines, I’ll take the naturally aspirated 6.2L.

6.0 or 6.6 gas engines are a better choice than the 6.2L
The one small feature that I really like on my 22 High Country 3500 SRW LB, if you are towing with the Tow Haul turned on, and shut down for fuel, to eat or whatever, if you start up within 4 hours, the Tow Haul is still active. I had a 2006 SLT 3500, I pulled a 5th wheel to Alaska and back to Florida, and was stopping for fuel 5 and 6 times a day (you don't want to pass an open fuel stop), and a couple times I forgot to turn the Tow Haul back on and the transmission temp would climb. I had an 18 Denali Dually and you had to turn it back on also. The 2022 High Country 3500 SRW is the best by far of the 3 Duramax trucks that I've owned. All were LB, the Dually was good for towing but not very good for shopping trips etc. I really liked your review
Just an FYI, I have a GMC Sierra AT4 3500, and it came with a tiny fuel tank. You can drop on a Titan fuel tank for much greater range. My 36-gallon fuel tank was anemic when pulling my 42-foot fifth wheel, so I dropped in a 56 gallon. You can go larger with your 8 foot bed...
Funny you should mention the Tow/Haul mode. My F150 tells me every time I start it that I have a trailer attached but I have to manually change drive modes. Quite a small but rather annoying technology gap.
I wouldn’t have thought to expect any of those features in a truck. I think I’m living in the past a bit.
I’m curious to see all of the new features. My trade is a 2012 WT, so it’s as basic as they come. It even still has crank windows.
Awesome review of the truck! I have a 2021 3500 High Country and I am very happy with it other than the brakes, they flat out suck and had a recall on the rear pads which still didnt resolve it! But I am surprised you do not like the LED lights, I think they are great! Especially when you need forward light or rear light when parked in a field. Also, with that big of a truck, add a train horn like I did, people will know you are coming and get out of the way!
The bluetooth in this truck is awesome, even has a microphone above the passenger side which can be helpful at times. Im at 35k and still learning little tricks on the software side and having a ton of fun driving this truck. I prefer it over my Ram 3500 Dually which I work out of most of the time! Keep on rolling and let us know what else you find as you go!

If you took the time to actually educate yourself on function of the truck which is pretty standard on all gm lines. There is a console organizer from, gm. There are better floor mats, your biggest pet peeve is the wipers? You havent figured out how to hit the audio button so your full screen shows the xm artist and song? PS you can adjust the mirror so its view is closer or further away. And the radio should play from a remote start.

A lot of what you discussed is why I bought a 2018 Ram 2500 Cummins 6.7. I could not be happier but there are a few things that must be done to get the full life out of the truck. That goes for any recent diesel pickup.
Great trucks! My son has '15 Cummins that he bought last year from the original owner with 9K miles on it. He loves it.
2017 ram 2500 diesel is literally the best vehicle I've ever owned. Was a fool to sell it and upgrade to the new body style. Like the new truck but I absolutely loved that 17 model.
Good review. I’ve got the ‘21 GMC Sierra 2500HD AT4 w/the 6.6L gasser. Love it! Terrible gas mileage but better than I expected, 13-15 city, 17-20 hwy. I haven’t experienced most of the issues you mentioned but you nailed the 3 things that drive me nuts: HUD is visible with polarized glasses but just barely. Defiantly not an ideal situation. The rear view camera is an awesome feature for almost doubling your view behind you but for me to use it I have to take off my glasses, ugh🤦♂️. And the #1 issue is indeed that sorry ass clown horn. My wife’s Jeep Grand Cherokee sounds way better than this thing. And they have that whimpy ass thing tucked in the passenger side so well surrounded by metal that I’ve actually had people on the drivers side drift into my lane and never hear the horn. Anybody know of a good horn upgrade that isn’t a air horn? Bet you could make a fortune selling them.

Also that review mirror has a zoom on it. And my 2022 3500 LTZ Duramax does has the passenger side floor mat clips.

Frankly it doesn't like the short hops to the grocery store, gun range or starsucks. but if I have to go to the airport 25 miles away, all by freeway, I'll hit 15-16 easy. in fact I had a pallet if water in it, about 2000 lbs, and I got 16 mpg! it has long legs and at a touch over 7K lbs curb weight its easy to feel comfortable at way too fast

Mine did the same it was actually a corroded contact on the plug to the heater close to the tank . Dealer tech took it apart cleaned it and is working fine now while I’m also waiting for a replacement tank . 2020 2500HD with 40 K here in Canada

21:38 The heads-up display does work with Polarized sunglasses. I have two pairs (Oakley & Ray-Ban) and both work with the heads-up display on our 2020 2500HD High Country.
I just found that if you tilt your head or move it side to side, the screen "disappears". Glad yours works well for you!!

Mirrors look like T-Rex arms coming out of the door. I prefer the previous style of being mounted above the door near the window vs below the window on the door. The new lower mounting design does eliminate a blind spot which is nice.

Side view mirrors block significant side field of view. Thanks for an informative video. The side view mirrors on my 2016 Silverado Duramax are good as mirrors however, in my opinion, they are the worst feature of the truck because at intersection or parking areas when I need to see through the side window, a big portion of the view is obstructed by the mirrors. I adjusted the driver's seat all the up till my head was at the ceiling but it's impossible to see over the giant mirrors. I wish they would rotate to landscape as I need to see pedestrians and cross traffic, not the sky.

Add the boost mobile car charger to the center console, also Banks has a lot out for these trucks now and they make the truck Soooo much better, derringer,pedal monster, and idash really wake these trucks up. The banks rear diff cover with amsoil is a must as well. I'm up to 17 mpg with a 12k toy hauler behind me. Go bilstein for the shocks when the ranchos bleed out at 25k. And add aire ride suspension in the back for squat and then it will pull like a dream. Agree on the interiors GM interiors are not great like you said a 98 although I think that's generous I would say 75% for 70k n up come on. Anyway great review. Thanks keep on trucking God bless TX.

Well, y’all gonna hate me but I picked up the new refreshed 2022 Silverado with the 2.7L. It’s been pretty good. I plan on keeping it for a bit, then getting the 6.2L Trail Boss. I’ll leave the 4 banger to the wife. However, the 430 torque is nice.
I am a GM person but you should research lifter failure with the 5.3 and the 6.2. They have similar problems as Ram has with the 5.7 and especially the 6.4. The multi-displacement issue is causing people to lose engines. I would look for a V8 that doesn’t have MDS

I use the truck in my business to haul heavy manufacturing components (electrical) and at the same time need to use the vehicle to take regional managers to customers and manufacturing sites. If my truck was a WT, I'd need to have a second vehicle for transporting customers and regional/technical sales people. This truck allows me to check both boxes.
Chips for trucks make up a minuscule percentage of the total chip consumption in the world. If all chips for trucks went away, the global chip shortage would not even notice.

Leaving power on to the 110volt power supply could potentially cause charging issue to the battery particularly during short drives. It’s just good energy management. Have you tried adjusting the headlights angle for better illumination of the road. That can change depending on your load. Perhaps with an empty bed your lights are adjusted too high?

Shame what has happened to automobiles and the world in general. Enjoy your $80,000 Emissions deisel that they can't even spare an extra $6 on proper lighting, rear seat ventillation, or $.10 for floormat fasteners. I designed better looking vehicles when i was 9 years old, and my mirrors didnt have a bigger aerodynamic drag than an entire economy car while lookin' all LGBTQ... Why must an empty truck weigh half as much as a Class A motorhome, and cost $120 to fill with fluid that just vanishes into air? My issue w/many YT reviews are by owner who “like to be seen in a truck” but have no need for a truck therefore they don’t report what I expect. I want a review from owners who always had a truck & can’t live w/o a truck. So IMO e.g., TFL in reality only provide limited impressions.

@@danniecurlett8702 I am not brand loyal in any way. I did my honest and best effort to compare apples to apples between the big 3. Basically, I tried to choose similar trim and then add in features to make them as "equal" in terms of content as possible. The Ford was basically $6K more and the Ram was just under $4K more. Yes, I know both the Ford and Ram have more BHP and TQ but 445 and 910 is enough for me. So, despite my whining about the $76K sticker, it was actually less than the competition (in my eyes!).
I just ordered a 2023 High Country 2500HD. It is supposed to have adaptive cruise, we shall see. I was hoping for a refresh, but I don’t believe it will happen, maybe 23.4 definitely 2024.
Coming up on 150k in my 2011 F250 which is in pristine condition on the outside and interior, but showing her age under the hood. Little stuff, so it’s time. Sadly Ford wants MSRP+. The Chevy with fleet discount is under MSRP. So Chevy it is at least for a couple of years. Won’t see the truck til August.

Sunroof may be a structural issue of a 2500hd truck - the bigger the hole, the less structural it is, especially off road. 120V - it's not a house and out in the weather - if water was to enter into the outlet then.....

Honestly, im not a fan of adaptive cruise control. You're correct. It is made to keep a food distance. People get in that zone, and the vehicle slows down drastically. I have it kn my toyota. I never use it for that reason. I think it's the nature of adoptive cruise control on any vehicle.
My only problem is the mirrors are so large they can obstruct your vision outside. Especially at intersections.

I sure get a kick out of people talking about their New Way Overpriced Chevrolet Trucks. I have a 2008 1500 Silverado Work Truck. Single Cab with the 4.8 litre V8. Automatic Transmission Cruise Control and Air Conditioning. This Truck only has 61,000 on it. It is only used for towing my 16ft Jon Boat or moving furniture or awkward sized loads. It has no surface Rust on it and it is 14 and a half years old. When it had 5,000 miles on it during a road trip into upper MN. At highway speeds it was getting 20.66 miles per gallon. New trucks cannot touch that kind of fuel Milage with out all kinds of Fancy Tech. If I was in charge of any of the Big Three Turck Makers I would be embarrassed to Tout anything about my New Vehicle's. Wake Up People!!!! $45,000 to $80,000 for a Pickup Truck. That is INSANE!!!!!!! But to each his own I guess.

Love my truck but how could not mention the extremely large hood that you can't see over. I'm 6'4" and bump things in parking lots because they were so hidden by the large front end.

I think it was a great review and learned a few things that no one else has mentioned like the rear view mirror. I would now drop that from the option list because of my glasses. I had considered a half ton but when pricing it the HD’s are only a few thousand more and the trucks are so much more capable.
Yep. I would not order technology package again. And, that gets you even closer to the 1500 price. It all helps justify the price for the 2500 in my head....ha ha.
Split mirrors are great for a dozen reasons blindspots idiots charging you etc
You can turn that feature off and just use it as a regular rear view mirror. That’s what I have done with mine.
I ordered the tech package for the heads up display. The camera mirror is just a bonus. But I don't expect to be able to use it with my quad in my bed since the camera is on the cab. But I'll have to wait and see.

After I wash my 2020 2500HD I just raise the hood to get rid of the water because I'm to lazy to drill a hole where the water collects, but there are RUclips videos on how and where to do it. If you read the owners manual (which you obviously have not) you'll see how to get the outside temp on the instrument cluster. It's in a sub menu using the selector switch on the right side of the steering wheel. You can select time, outside temp, or direction (North, South, East or West) if memory serves. I will have 100,000 miles on my High Country by the end of the week and aside from normal maintenance I've only had to replace the coolant overflow bottle due to a bad sensor. Best truck I've ever owned by far. Take care of it and you'll be happy for many years to come. The one thing I wish I would have gotten sooner is the Banks Derringer with the Idash. Check it out when you get a chance. Happy Truckin.
I have an LTZ. I see in the submenu where I can check and uncheck the box for the compass on the driver information center. It is the only option, in that submenu. There is no option for temp (only compass) which is already displayed on the HUD and on all 3 navigation apps (GM, Apple Maps and Waze). So, I can get the compass displayed in 3 locations but the temp is only displayed by exiting out of CarPlay.
With that said, another commenter says there is a new software update that among other things addresses the AutoHigh Beams and Driving Light issue. I've yet to take it in for that but maybe they've added the temp function into the LTZ trim submenu as you describe.
And FYI, I read the manual cover to cover when i got the truck and have since reviewed the specific section you reference based on your comments. It's just not in there on my model! I'm an electrical automation programmer/specialist and work with PLC's and VFD's everyday....I know how to get thru menus.
Have begun the research on the Banks products but life is VERY busy. Will probably be a while before I get around to it.

Well, yep, there are cheap plastics and they cut some corners...no doubt. That said, I'm still very happy with mine and I hope that came through in the video. Also, when I did an apples to apples comparison, the chevy was about $6K cheaper and I decided I could live with the cheaper interior. Just my 2 cents...

My ‘22 6.6 Duramax gets 22.5MPG downhill with a tailwind… otherwise I get 14.5ish. Elevation gets you. I’m at 7000 feet as well (COS).
Yep, 14ish is what I get here in flatland NC. I can get up to 19.5 on 55mph secondary roads.
Had a L5P with over 115k miles and never turned a bolt, other than maintenance. Started out with coolant leak which took 4 trips to fix and after that, which started at 100 miles new, nothing wrong. I did change to a cool air intake and it improved it a lot. I have several videos on being in extreme cold (South Dakota)and living in Florida hot. I loved my truck. But moved back to Yukon. After I changed to cold air intake my mileage went up to 22mpg.

I actually purchased it at John Elway Chevrolet. When I originally placed the order in 2021 they were still part of the Costco Auto program. By the time the truck came in, they had not renewed their 2022 membership but they made good on it. They took $2,500 off of sticker and gave my me the Blue Book trade on my Ford Fusion which had actually increased from early 2020 of $10.4 to $15.5 by October of 2021....go figure and crazy times!!
check to see if your vin falls under the buyback criteria. l5p is such junk gm is buying back several late moel trucks. And the truck they offer for your replacement has even less features because of the chip shortage, even though yours is missing some already.
I don't know, man. I think you should stick with VW/Audi. Seems like they had a really big hand out in the 40's and 50's.
So not to nitpick or tell you your opinion is wrong but to complain about a feature you can turn off or just plain not use is a little absurd. You don’t have to use the digital camera mirror, you can flip the tab and use it just like a regular mirror. Your not forced to use it, so don’t complain about it is all I’m saying
Well, if I sounded like I was complaining, that was not my intent. I really like the feature and the additional viewing area is awesome. Plus, it really helps with “night vision”. So, it’s a feature that GM bundled with the HUD and I think the combo was over $1200. Point being, I paid for the camera and I really want to use it, you just can’t use it without reading glasses if you’re over 40. I was not aware of that requirement and probably wouldn’t have spent the money. I was just trying to give some other Old Guys a warning…that’s all.

19 mpg? I have a 1/2 ton with the 6.2 and am lucky if I get 15.5, and that is driving at 70 mph on flat straight roads in south TX.
If I don't tow, I get 19.5mpg. When towing both my bumper pull landscaping trailer or surprisingly our 5000lb 5th wheel I'm at about 14mpg.
I use the "trip 2" function as my oil trip monitor. I've got about 4600 miles on my current oil change and it's reading 18.4 right now with about 600-650 miles of towing during that 4600 miles....just an FYI
Ours at work is super plush but all kinds of stuff in the cab is starting shake and rattle, super annoying.
Well at 12,000 miles (now). Mine is still pretty tight. Fingers crossed.

Yes I have one and so does my wife. My wife is on her 2nd engine at 20k miles and my lifters have been rebuilt once already at 30k.

The external temperature displaying on the screen with CarPlay is an issue with Apple. I use Android Auto and by default that is disabled as well. You have to go into the Android Auto settings and enable that option...
The auto starting of the last audio selection should work just fine. This is my 5th silverado and they all performed that function just fine from the factory. I just got my 2022 3500 LTZ and this truck works just fine with whatever the last selection was.
Thanks Matt, you're saying your music plays after you've done a remote start? You've actually tried that cuz my dealer told me I have the most current software in my truck.
@@oldguyobservations8724 yes it does, but also I use Android auto and those are all settings that I cane enable/disable via Android auto. So maybe apple carplay either doesn't support it or there is a setting you need to adjust
The android auto temperature readout doesn't come from the truck but rather weather data based on location. My audio plays just fine after a remote start.

Do not turn on auto rear defrost if you have a split rear window. GM still has not fixed the window breaking issue. The auto defrost with remote start does not shut off and will spider rear pass window. Spent 2 months arguing with GM and there is a recall in canada on the same truck but not in US for some stupid reason.
They finally installed new window. Was over $1000
You should only ise GM DEF cause of the problems they have had. I tow a gooseneck trailer with mine. I go through at least 20 gallons of diesel exhaust fluid between every oil change.
The seats are way too firm. And it really pisses me off that they don’t have adaptive cc.

Sorry but I disagree. I have 1 vehicle for both personal landscaping and towing our 5th wheel while still being able to bring regional sales managers and application engineers to customers. The vehicle has to be "business appropriate" yet still has the functionality for hauling and moving both my bumper pull landscaping trailer and our 5th wheel rv. I could spend $40K for the "purpose of a pickup" as you describe and then still need to spend $35K for a Ford Fusion or Honda Accord. $75K for 2 vehicles or as literally a million people a year (between Ford, GM and Ram) buy 1 vehicle that serves 2 purposes.

After having real bad luck with three vehicles of that brand and since Chevy ruined the Diesel name by modifying their 5.7 l gasoline engine with a Diesel pump, I wouldn't touch
anything they offer in their line of crap with a broomstick - never-ever!
That engine was not the same as the 5.7 gas engine. It just shares the same displacement as they could use the same machinery to bore and stroke the engine blocks. The internals and materials are completely different.

was converted by Oldsmobile and yes, all they did was adding a Diesel injection pump while leaving everything else the way it was on their gasoline motor.

Yes, I did have an Oldsmobile Coupe and yes, it did kick the bucket in Los Angelos and I flew back to El Paso many moons ago.
I did have a total of three Chevrolet vehicles and each of them was a piece of crap and engines as well as tranny's had to be rebuilt at not too much over 100K and no, I will never ever buy anything from that outfit again and yes the same goes for Harley-

Z/71 is more than off road tires... The biggest benefit is the limited slip rear end.

This might be a loaded question but I am about to buy a predawn 2021 0r 2022 denial HD. Does anybody know what type of concerns you might have with the truck going to 200 to 250K miles. Im thinking to keep it a long time.

I used to drive my previous car like a bat outta hell. Now, I'm 70mph in the right lane. I typically get about 22mpg on flat interstate at 70mph. It averages out to 19 or so on most tanks. I find the biggest factor for me is a relatively careful acceleration up to 20 or 25 mph. Seems to pretty dramatically impact my average.

Just purchased my 2500HD Duramax Chevy yesterday. A lot of time researching about getting the gasser or diesel. I figured I have a RV trailer now, if I get diesel, I will no longer struggle going uphill with my 18 1500 at 4MPG at 45 MPH with the little 5.3 screaming. Awesome truck, LT w/z-71 package, although I was not wanting Z-71, but its what they had in stock. This motor is a beast. Mine is the Blue with black interior. Lots of features for LT, (basically ALL-Star package). Plenty of what I want. Dealership was awesome. I know its not the best time to buy, but, I wanted/needed a 2500 that can pull an RV.

I have a 2022 High Country. Totally agree with your comments about the issues. No adaptive cruise control, frustrating about the windshield wipers and no sunroof close for rain detection.
It also really frustrates me the Navigation cancels if AirPlay directions pop on. Also, why can’t heads up display show airplay turn by turn directions.
Overall the truck is great, lots of power and fun to drive for the size.

My 1500 AT4 diesel 3.0L I6 and it is optioned like a Denali and has adaptive cruise. Soon as I saw this tonight, I went and looked up the window sticker on the new Denali, and sure enough has all the other safety tech , but says it has that distance monitor, but no mention of adaptive cruise.
All I can say is wow, never even thought to look for it. It been on about all my vehicles built in the past 4-5 years .
