The running theory about Marc waving Fabio by is that he did it to try and increase his tyre pressure. It didn't work, and Marc ended up with a 16 second penalty that dropped him down to 10th place.
Sylvain Guintoli and Michael Laverty, both professional motorcycle racers and commentators, speculated about it shortly after the race.
There are rules saying your tyre pressure has to be above a certain average temp, and Marc's was getting too low. If there's nobody right in front of you, your tyre gets colder air, which means lower tyre pressure. When you're right on someone else's tail, their wake is warmer, which means higher tyre pressure.
If Marc had been able to keep up with the riders ahead of him, he could have used their warm air to keep his tyre pressure up, but he couldn't risk spending too much time too far away from them. By letting Fabio by, Marc could draft on him, spend time with higher pressure and bring his average pressure back up, then pass again later. Even if he couldn't overtake Fabio again, the single lost place would still net him more points than he'd lose from taking the penalty.
It's clever strategy, especially if he's trying to get more grip than his competition by going out on track with underinflated tyres 🤫
Noob romanian comentators said this too during the race, but these commentators didn't know :) Marc declared it after the race also.

Trouble with Tire pressure.
All of the Riders had problems with low Tire pressure.
Because at the Time of the Race was much colder.
So they have to follow each other's to keep the Tire Pressure up.
Marc got even penalized for low tire pressure

It's sad to see Honda and Yamaha in the last places. The two biggest brand's on MotoGP terrorised the grounds of this tracks for years.
I know it's incredible, I stopped watching Moto GP after marks first championship. I've started again in the last 2 years and I'm shocked at Ducati's dominance. Like they were always known to be faster on the straights, but there's no competition now.
I also find the new bikes quite ugly.

@@tommygun5035 I'm a japan fan and mostly Honda alright? I hate Europeans bikes but japan must wake up immediately if they want to be on top again. From 1975 until 2018 expect 2007 i think,the champions was Honda Yamaha and Suzuki. The most people especially young they don't know or they don't see on the internet the dominance of these three exceptional motorbikes brands.

Does Japan even make motorcycles anymore??? It's great to see Aprilia and KTM be competitive but Honda and Yamaha are nowhere to be found.

Why these guys upload highlights a month later is beyond me. They get less views and those who want to pay to watch live will do so regardless of youtube highlights. I dont think anyone will say, damn, those highlights are late, i better spend 70e on a subscription... Dumb decision
