    For me, Paleozoic is the most underrated period of complex life. Such a shame we don't have more portraits of synapsids or marine life .

    • @Apeironx3e
      @Apeironx3e 9 месяцев назад +6

      Yeah but we need way more cambrian and silurian animals rather than just synapsids and less specific marine life

      @@Apeironx3e yea, we need also more sea scorpions, giant apex predatory shrimps, early amphipians and also, little more mention of propaleozoic era periods, like giant snowball earth.

    I honestly want to see more Permian animals getting the spotlight and recognized as such. Synapsids are such cool and diverse animals, but they're always confused as just early dinos. I'd love to see them get more in the mainstream.

    • @prasetyodwikuncorojati2434
      @prasetyodwikuncorojati2434 8 месяцев назад +1

      Apparently most people confused, because dimetrodon looks rather reptilian in appearance (while other nonmammalian synapsid looks kinda weird as they don't resemble anything with some vaguely reptilian-mammalian combination). Yet because they prehistoric and reptilian in appearance, synapsid must be a dinosaur according to some folk's logic

    Hi Dino Guy,
    Little context before I comment, but I'm a paleontologist whose work focusses very heavily on Dimetrodon, specifically the large Texas species that your video focusses on. While we do have a trackway showing a pelycosaur highwalking the pelvic and pectoral anatomy as well as the limbs are strikingly similar to squamates and crocodilians in which the typical gait is a highly sprawled walk with occasional high walking or running for speed. Otherwise besides the "Late Permian" mishap this is a solid video and a good overview of what we know about Dimetrodon's appearance.
    Cheers,
    Nathan

      Thank you for the Clarification! While doing my research, I was unable to find a clear consensus on the sprawled, semi sprawled, or upright position. You are exactly what I needed.
      And yes, I am still kicking myself over saying “Late Permian”. Im also currently doing research on Inostrancevia, so I think the two were swapped in my head surrounding that topic. I just wish I caught it while editing haha.
      Thank you for the comment!

      that's cool to hear, a lot of people act like depicting Dimetrodon in a sprawling stance is a sin so I've seen a lot of depictions with it standing like a dog which was pretty ridiculous.
      Now all we need in Dimetrodon skin and we can know which depiction is best.

    3:50 Big oof, saying Dimetrodon is from the Late Permian when it’s from the Early Permian.
    I really wish more time periods got the spotlight they deserve in paleo media. Like apart from Dunk, how many people know about the Devonian? The Permian especially seems weirdly left out since you have saber toothed Gorgonopsids in the Late Permian, the absolute unit of Anteosaurus the largest land predator of the Paleozoic and the largest Synapsid land predator until Andrewsarchus, and then the Early Permian has all the sailed backed synapsids such as Edaphosaurus, Dimetrodon, and all of their relatives. Plus the Late Permian has the largest Amphibian to ever live with Prionosuchus. It really is a shame that they are all relatively ignored.

      @goj1_lag00n 9 месяцев назад +1

      Andrewsarchus wasn't the largest synapsid land predator. The high estimates given to it are based on outdated classification as a mesonychid and stem from scaling smaller mesonichids to fit its giant skull.

    • @Poliostasis
      @Poliostasis 9 месяцев назад +1

      Yeah I doubt the Middle Permian will ever be covered by a documentary EVER, it's just the perfect period to skip over from Early to Late Permian, despite the fact it contains one of the most interesting formations like the one with Anteosaurus (Tapinocephalus Assemblage Zone)

    • @beedrillbot121
      @beedrillbot121 9 месяцев назад

      @@PoliostasisI don’t know which is worse getting ignored like the Middle Permian and Middle Triassic, or you are only recognized for one thing despite everything else living there. Like Lystrosaurus in the Early Triassic and Dunk for the entirety of the Devonian.

    • @Poliostasis
      @Poliostasis 9 месяцев назад

      @@beedrillbot121 I'm almost convinced most of the Dicynodonts we see evolve through the Triassic were descended from the Lystrosaurs of the Early Triassic. Technically they didn't go "extinct" but evolved differently enough to be considered a different species by that point.
