  • Hey guys! So I recently got hold of a 9 string guitar, the Schecter Damien Platinum 9 to be exact, and the first thing I wanted to do was re record this. I last covered it back in 2015 (Jesus I'm old) and had a lot of fun creating a new tone to bring out that brutal low end. The guitar is tuned half a step lower, just like Meshuggah do on their 8 strings, so the low F becomes a low C on the 9th string.
Really hope you guys like it!

The Guitar sounds were a mixture of Guitar Rig 5 and EZMIX 2 presets.
Recorded the video using my Canon 600D with 50mm lens and edited with Adobe Premiere.

Did you drop to double Bb at the end that was spasm sounding dang

Haha, thanks! I actually think it was lower. Standard tuning on my 9 string gives me a low c sharp. So I think it could have possibly been double A after I tuned it down. Lowest tuning I've ever played in!

@@Chainz45 standart tuning? high e on first? tried that on mine and tension was unbearable, also can be harmfull for the neck :(

@@paskudne This has a 30" scale length so in standard tuning it's not really possible to do bends with my gauge of strings. I had it set up by a professional luthier who also adjusted both truss rods for me. I'm pretty sure this was standard tuning so yeah, high E on the first string.

Nice! Just got this guitar. What gauge are you using for the low C#? Cheers!

Oh god, I'm not sure, I took it for neck repairs and the luthier snapped some strings so put a fesh set on for me and adjusted the truss rods. It's kept in standard tuning and I can't bend the top strings. Maybe 11 though to a 110? Chunky strings. Rarely have to tune it though. Hope this helps!

@@Chainz45 neck repair? Hope it's OK. I'm running 9 to 95s now. Sounds pretty solid. Still slightly buzzy on the low C# string but it feels good to play so I'm not yet sure if I'll go any thicker. I might try a 100

@@SonicDriveStudio I bought this from eBay for an absolute bargain but it had a crack on the underside of the neck where from the nut to around the 6th fret. Along where the neck and fretboard meet. However, it also needed a new nut carved and fitted, turns out that was causing to the low C# being super buzzy no matter the action or string gauge. I can only assume it had been dropped on the headstock and caused a crack to form. I'm super happy with it now though, even though it's certainly not a guitar I bring out for every project xD
