  • A journey over the 950mm (or Italian ‘meter-gauge’) line around the Mt Etna volcano in Sicily. The train service was still entirely operated by the 1970-built diesel railcars but four new Polish-built 2-car Vulcano untis had arrived and were completing shake-down runs. The video also includes a run in the 1936-built Fiat railcar.

    I enjoyed this one very much...a very interesting rail system and with the volcano puffing away all the time!

    Nice video!
    The last station you see in the video, it's not that of Linguaglossa, but that of Randazzo.

      Thanks for telling me that. I should have known it wasn't Linguaglossa because after leaving the train I walked around the village and knew it was Randazzo.!

    It seems to be a nacional pride in italy, having the trains covered in grafitti

      Yes. The Catania Metro was particularly bad for graffiti and any rolling stock that had been left a while in the sidings was fair game for the spray can brigade! Unlike some graffiti which can be quite artistic and well designed, the Sicilian graffiti was just random spraying.
