Catania Bars • Borgo Ferrovia Circumetnea • Metro • Loco FCE 14 • Loco R.370.012 • Italy • Day 9

Catania is a very old city and has been affected by Etna volcano for millennia. Our flight home is tomorrow so we have a whole day to explore this city centre and around and about. First up we find the centre square with bars and cafes. After a cool beer and a snack of some Arancini we use the Metro line to get to Borgo.
Borgo Station is on the Ferrovia Circumetnea line, an old narrow-gauge line which runs about 68 miles up and around Etna. Although not running today we have the chance to visit and explore the station, an old steam engine (Loco FCE 14) and the train depot. Back at Catania we find another old steam loco (R.370.012) which is a double-expansion loco with cog wheel drive.
Tomorrow we return to England.
