Now I can finally talk about the foreshadowing in Episode 2 Everyone we see in Episode 2, outside of the game did something that would foreshadow their death later. Ali stole money from his boss, and he died from being stolen from in the Marbles game. Sae-Byeok threatened to slit the scammers throat with a knife, and she died from having her throat slit. Deok-Su jumped off a bridge and then fell off the Glass Bridge. Sang-Woo almost committed Suicide dressed in a suit in a bathtub, and he committed suicide in a suit in the rain. Gi-Hun doesn't die, but his mother does and that was foreshadowed more directly in Episode 2 when it was revealed she had diabetes Il-Nam also isn't foreshadowed due to his death in the game not being real.
I didn't even realize most of those, that's crazy... and I think Gi-hun's mother's death was foreshadowed when he swears on his mother's life that he won't chase after Sae-Byeok for his money, but then he does
the only one I don't agree with is Ali, as that money he took was what was owed to him, so he didn't quite steal it rather, he took it back. everyone else is spot on.
Nah, Gi-Hun's mother having diabetes isn't what foreshadowed anything, even though she died from it. It was Gi-Hun promising on his mother's life that he wouldn't attack Sae-Byeok if she helped untie him. She helped him and then he lunged at her going against his promise.
The foreshadowing is INSANE in this show. It has hundreds of little details, that you only get on a second viewing. Another comment mentioned all the death foreshadowing, but even the games they are going to play are pictured on the wall of the big hall they are sleeping in. If you are paying attention, Player One is suspicious right from the start, good at every game and fairly enjoying himself. Really great tv making.
Everyone, don't say anything about S2 plz. Most of us haven't watched it yet. And this is a season 1 reaction. Anyway, I'm super glad you watched S1, it's been amazing seeing your heartfelt reactions (and a great recap for me)
@@mrfantastic8451I legit needed a bath after I finished season 2. It was the middle of the night and I legit sat in the bath with no lights on in pitch black darkness 😂😂😂
Rule #1 of TV and movies: no body; not dead. You got it on the cop but not on Il-Nam. Of course they just disappear - no story for loved ones. It’s the whole reason the cop investigated his brother’s disappearance.
My theory with the glass is that was meant to happen to varying degrees. When glass breaks, you get the characteristic knife/spear shards, but when tempered glass breaks, it breaks into small rounded pieces, like a car window shattering all at once. Depending on how many players got across, the explosion would make more dangerous shards the more unbroken panels there were. That way, if more people got through than they intended, they were more likely to get injured. It is totally unfair, but i don't think they meant for many players to get past this.
I love the fight seen as they do very well portraying a fight between two guys who clearly have no idea how to fight and are in the paradox of so angry that they absolutely want to kill each other but are hesitant to do so.
I'll never not be emotional qhen Saebyeok dies. I know she was going to, but it's just the way she does and how different her demeanor is while she's slowly dying. She was my favorite. I'll never understand anyone who defends Sangwoo. I wish they could bring her and Ali back 😭
Interesting point: when Il-Nam was betting Gi-Hun that nobody would go to help the homeless man, Gi-Hun could have been easily going down himself and/or called the police to help. But instead he was betting on life and death ;-) 39:19 exactly! 😅
24:17 the front man actor is called Lee Byung-Hun! He is incredible and has been in multiple American films. Like “G.I. Joe”, “Magnificent 7”, “Red 2”. He was one of the first Korean actor to get their “Star and hand print” in Hollywood. And he’s also multilingual. He speaks Korean, English, Mandarin and French.
The bridge doesn’t make any sense in the context of the games. It doesn’t give any chances, there are no rules - just push your luck. All other games gave chances, you need to follow certain rules and EVERYBODY have a a chance, but here it is completely different
When I saw the actor's face, who plays the frontman, I mentally slapped myself. I should've recognized his voice earlier! I know him as the male lead of Mr. Sunshine. And he is so amazing!
I liked your commentary on this, Oscar! My mom truly believes that there are no good people in the world, and that’s because she watches the news and true crime all day every day. I used to be that way too until I got out on my own and saw that the way my mom sees the world is not the way it is.
Define “good people”?) who are good people from your point of view? A lot of people do bad things, but from their point of view - those are not bad things
@ I just mean people who are kind and help others. You can do bad things and still be a good person. I think it depends on whether or not you feel remorse and try to do better.
This TV show seems to share many similar messages to Hunger Games, Truman Show, and Superbia (by Jonathan Larson). Afaik, it's basically a social critique on reality TV and how reality TV takes advantage of people with needs. It is thus also a social critique on wealth inequality, and how those with less wealth survive in a world seemingly controlled by the wealthy. This is why the game creators in the show comment on humans hiding in the herd, which can sometimes be useful, but can sometimes be very harmful if the herd is, for example, a cult or community being manipulated by strongmen. There's a big obvious example of this in modern times in the US, but it also shows up in the 1930s and 1940s in Germany, and other places. However, the differences are also striking too. In Hunger Games and Truman Show, the people are forced into a reality TV show (of death for Hunger Games), here they "choose" it out of desperation and need. In Hunger Games, the kids are mostly innocent and are pushed into a traumatic experience that changes them forever, here the humans are already flawed. These important differences, to me, suggest that manipulating and killing off desperate flawed people, even if they chose to stay, is just as immoral and unethical. In real reality TV, you don't make a lot of money until you've done a show for more than 2 seasons (particularly for the Bravo and Housewives TV shows). Many people go on these because they are desperate, and it exposes these people to the manipulation of the TV Networks, lack of privacy, and public eyes. While some of these people may choose to go on these shows, some of the shows also deliberately entice poor people to go on them, and many of the shows either feature bad safety standards, pushing the body to the limits, or fighting between people. For a lot of reality TV, much of the audience likes watching people get hurt or fight amongst themselves, especially for certain types of reality TV. The last big commentary of this show is that the winner of the previous games became part of the people who control/manage the games (the Front Man). The show entices flawed good and bad people, and those who survive are either bad or they are traumatized and manipulated, and that's how the cycle keeps going... until someone is brave enough to stop it.
These are all such important messages, and the fact that people watch this show without giving those themes the proper gravity is endlessly nauseating. Squid Game is a good show, but it shouldn't be watched for entertainment, at least not in the sense of, "Oh cool, action show with crazy deaths, I bet Character X is gonna win!" Cause that's the exact antithesis of what the show is trying to say. That so many people were excited for Season 2 just so they could see what games the people get put through is testament to that. In an era of increasing media illiteracy, we need more people like you to explicate what this show is trying to say and how to engage with it.
I actually really like Sang-woo's character. I think he gets too much hate. A lot of people would behave in the same way in that kind of situation and people forget that his drive is paying off his debt for his mother's sake because he leveraged her house and her business. He's confident to end his life at the end because he knows Gi-hun will care for his mother. Really good reviews. 10/10. But also I laughed out loud when you used church as a good example of seeing the good in the world, when my experience was the opposite 😅
Well not “the” church, but specially the people going overseas or locally to build homes and feed the hungry. There’s bad people everywhere unfortunately, that’s just humanity. But good people can also be found anywhere.
His reaction to the final scene of The Legend of Korra shows he's a good one, but I'm curious to see how he'll react to a certain new character in season 2 of squid game.
Some k-series you should definitely check out after squid game: - Money Heist Korea (it has the MC's friend inside, there's 2 seasons) - Twinkling Watermelon / Family by Choice (fluffy, light, funny and wholesome kdramas)
Always wondered: what happens if nobody gets through the glass steps? If the just wait to long, it explodes and nobody makes it to the last game? That wouldn't be fun for the VIPs would it?
I assume that as soon as time starts to run out and the creators see that the participants are not moving forward, then they will start shooting them one at a time to get the rest moving. I'm sorry if the comment is crookedly written, I translated it through a translator😅
I had the player one being old man spoiled for me BEFORE I watched season one of squid game and was so pissed. It totally ruined so much of the show for me So this time I was determined to get off the internet and watch season 2 immediately before it was spoiled for me 😂😂
It makes you think a lot about Sang-Woo situation, he was ready to unalive himself, he had no motive to continue and for him playing the games was quite literally his last hope. It does not justify his actions but at the end, when Gi-hun is giving up the prize for his life, he doesn’t let him. He does not find value in his life without that prize, and he knows Gi-hun would go home and take care of his mom which was probably the only thing he still cared about.
this is a stupid question but when did he tell us his name? I have been following him for a while and only called him "Cocoa Couch" while I see a lot of ppl know his name as Oscar 🤣🤣
YESSSSS I was so excited to see your reaction to the last bit of the show! I love how optimistic but realistic you are about the world. It’s a very good thing to think about: boredom is borne from selfishness.
6:00 The subtitles are taken from the dubbed script, theyre not transcribed later on like on youtube, so if anyone adjusts their speaking, or adlibs or anything the subtitles dont match fully. Its annoying yes, but unless its Drastically off i dont think theyd fix them lol
An example of how terrible the CC subs are is that scene in season 1 ep6 where the husband and wife find out that they're going to be playing against each other. In the original, the wife turns to her husband and says "yobo" or "darling". In the dubbed version, she says "oh boy", completely destroying the profoundness of the scene. There are countless examples of how the dubs DESTROYED the masterpiece of the original.
I'm really glad you think that the "poor and super rich people have in common that life isn't fun anymore" idea is illogical. I saw other reactors agreeing with it (like saying "he's got a point there") and I got so confused. Life is more than what you can buy. How can someone equate the struggles of the lower classes to rich people being bored because they never learned to appreciate anything other than their money?
Ahhhh I can't believe I'm so early, saw you in my recs a few days ago loving your character and just started binging your reactions. In fact I just finish your twilight reactions lol😅
I dont expect ppl to love sangwoo, what I can’t stand is ppl labeled sangwoo as the bad one and gihun is the good one. I can’t stand gihun because he is so hypocrite, and no character growth. He is still the same stupid lazy man who rely more on luck and last minute effort, blaming everything on everyone else especially on sangwoo. He appear nice in front of ppl just so ppl label him as the nice one. Ppl forgot how he treat his own mother, wife, and daughter. He cant even use the money for good cause right away. Sangwoo was spot on about gihun. I really cant stand him. Sangwoo is the mvp for me.
Gihun lost his job and gambled as a way of trying to earn money which was wrong, he couldn’t treat his family properly because he had no money and gambled what he could. Yes, not a good dude. But outside of that, we see that he has a compassionate side, and whenever he is “nice” to people, he has nothing to gain from it. You can see through the series that he struggles between his survival instincts and his kindness. Like when he choice to team up with the old man instead of the healthy guy who offered to be his partner. And then by the end of the series, he chooses to give up the money to save his brother (who kills himself anyway). So I don’t know where the whole “he has no character growth” thing came from since he CLEARLY grew a lot. As for Sangwoo, he did a lot more terrible things in order to survive which you can empathise with but it was still wrong. He also put up his mother’s shop as collateral. To call the guy the guy who did all those terrible things the mvp vs a guy that was not the best guy at the start is crazy. Neither of them are good guys but Sangwoo was CLEARLY much more far gone morally.
@ for me the no character growth can be seen at how he chose to drown on his own regret and not live his life with everything he got, like go save that kid, go help sangwoo’s mother. He waited a whole frickin year. That is the same loser attitude he have from the start. And in the end instead of go see his own daughter (after abandon her all this time and especially after the grandma died), he again chose to be involved in the game. He didnt know his prioritize, always sacrificing hiw own family for some nonsense. No wonder his wife left him, no wonder his daughter dissapointed at him. Seeing how he treat his own family and see how he treat ppl who he just met I guess says a lot about his character more. Like why u dont have the same compassion toward ur own family?! You see what he did to the old guy, he cheat on him. That is his true color. But he did those bad things in private and show some big action in front of others. And then have the audacity to tell om sangwoo how he kill the other man. At least sangwoo never show hipocricy and willing to do the dirt despite what other ppl might think of him, and his action can save other ppl lives too including gihun’s. Yes for me Sangwoo is the mvp here, he is what he is, not saying he is a good person because everyone has good and evil side. But I’m enjoying watching his action through the series more than gihun.
Idk, maybe I’m wrong for putting murder below being a terrible father/husband. But yeah that really bugged me seeing him give up for a year despite having the means to provide for his family.
Hello :) 6:00 Subtitles are wrong because you used English CC or SDH version made from EN Dub .. it's recommended direct English subtitles with better translation . So , in Season 2 - choose the first English , just the simple one , no SDH or Forced version and you should be fine .
7 is not a holy number, it is just a psychologically appealing number, it is so easy to do anything with it, same with 3, 5 9 and 10.. of course 10 is the most appealing number we know of, we got top 10 hits, top 10 most wanted, top 10 movies and so on, all of these different important numbers are used to easily trick people, the holy trinity, the 7 dwarves(to give the feeling of diversity) etc, there is an entire science around why and when to use these numbers Didn't even know season 2 was out now, apparently got out very recently, gonna watch it 🙂
It can be both. Just because it’s appealing doesn’t mean it’s not regarded in the Bible as being a holy number the God used all the time. Did you hear the context I was talking about?
it's interesting how everybody judges the VIP's for entertaining themselves by watching these games, while we, the viewers of the show are doing exactly the same thing
Cant wait for your season 2 reactions, season 2 is more emotional and evocative than season one, i get the cliffhanger anger, but season 3 will be released in 2025, we dont have to wait years for it
Great reaction but you're watching with the wrong subtitles. It's not your fault as Netflix should make "English" subtitles the default but you're watching with the Closed Caption (CC subtitles), which is the transcript of the dubbed version. Its HORRENDOUSLY inaccurate. You might as well have watched a conpletely different show. PLEASE watch season 2 with the correct subtitles! 🙏
You really should react to the video "SQUID GAME Breakdown: Every Easter Egg, Clue, Hidden Detail & Ending Explained"... it will completely blow your mind.
SPOILER FOR SEASON 2 I completely forgot about the VIP aspect in season 2 so now that I think about it they will probably keep the games going despite the rebellion just for the VIPs. I thought they would just kill everyone in the waiting room but that doesn’t make sense, it would make the vips mad
Was waiting for this! Now looking forward to whenever you react and post Season 2. I'm deliberately skipping all the VIP scenes because I can't stand their performances 🤣Mediocre acting by English-speaking actors aren't uncommon in Korean shows (and I think I read somewhere that their dialogue and acting were intentionally bad to show how out-of-touch these VIPs are?) but my word, it's hard not to cringe whenever they open their mouths and talk lol
I'm very surprised people didn't see the old man was the guy. Not trying to boast, but figured that out pretty early in the season, so it didn't shock me at all. Anyway,.it was definitely a good watch. The 1st season
I have very mixed feelings about his mum dying. On one side~ she died only knowing him as selfish. Which we see during the games, he is anything but. Willing to sacrifice the prize money, just so he didn’t have to kill a friend. On the other~ she never had to see how the games changed her son. To think of how much trauma he went through & he is the only one who actually knows the truth. Plus, how would she view the money? He stole it? Gambling? All around it just hurts. They killed all the great characters. Love how we both picked up on the odd shooting/not showing the cop brother! Definitely excited for season 2! An ironic part is the doctor was cheating to get clues for the next game… but every single game was on the walls of the sleeping area the entire time. You just don’t pick up on it, until they take a lot of the beds out. Last thing, on a second look it’s so obvious, but when 001 “peed” himself you feel so bad for him. But when they remove the blanket, you see an empty water bottle right next to him. Cleaver little man knew how to play right into the marbles game.
I reallylike and reeally hate the glass episode. Shows us the vip and all tht, but it also uneceasarily directly leads to the death of my favorite character dor the sakè of a spectacle. Bullcrap
Now I can finally talk about the foreshadowing in Episode 2
Everyone we see in Episode 2, outside of the game did something that would foreshadow their death later.
Ali stole money from his boss, and he died from being stolen from in the Marbles game.
Sae-Byeok threatened to slit the scammers throat with a knife, and she died from having her throat slit.

Sang-Woo almost committed Suicide dressed in a suit in a bathtub, and he committed suicide in a suit in the rain.
Gi-Hun doesn't die, but his mother does and that was foreshadowed more directly in Episode 2 when it was revealed she had diabetes
Il-Nam also isn't foreshadowed due to his death in the game not being real.
I didn't even realize most of those, that's crazy... and I think Gi-hun's mother's death was foreshadowed when he swears on his mother's life that he won't chase after Sae-Byeok for his money, but then he does

Time to go for Squid game s2🎉
I'm really glad you think that the "poor and super rich people have in common that life isn't fun anymore" idea is illogical.
I saw other reactors agreeing with it (like saying "he's got a point there") and I got so confused. Life is more than what you can buy. How can someone equate the struggles of the lower classes to rich people being bored because they never learned to appreciate anything other than their money?

i just binged season 2, i hope you jump right into that one quick before you see spoilers.
You have to watch Alice In Boderland now!!!!
You're the perfect guy for reacting to LOST ✈️🏝
Hello :) 6:00 Subtitles are wrong because you used English CC or SDH version made from EN Dub .. it's recommended direct English subtitles with better translation . So , in Season 2 - choose the first English , just the simple one , no SDH or Forced version and you should be fine .
Ahhh right! I knew it had something to do with the settings, because the Eng translation shouldn't be wrong
Oscar so mad about that glass. 😂
SEASON 2 DROPPED
CANT WAIT FOR SEASON 2!!!!!!!
Can't wait for the season 2 reactions!!!!
Can't wait for season 2! It's absolutely crazy man!
I think the worst thing is that you know exactly who is going to survive, or maybe that's just me
I wasn't sure. I hoped, but was never sure.
(There are plenty of shows that kill off the main character and switch to a new one)
7 is not a holy number, it is just a psychologically appealing number, it is so easy to do anything with it, same with 3, 5 9 and 10.. of course 10 is the most appealing number we know of, we got top 10 hits, top 10 most wanted, top 10 movies and so on, all of these different important numbers are used to easily trick people, the holy trinity, the 7 dwarves(to give the feeling of diversity) etc, there is an entire science around why and when to use these numbers
Didn't even know season 2 was out now, apparently got out very recently, gonna watch it 🙂
It can be both.
You know the characters aren’t actually in a real life game right?…
Now time to react to season 2 and season 3 comes out next year aswell! :)
season 2 was honestly not bad, but i’m super excited for season 3 cause i need answers 😭
The bridge from Kaiji The Ultimate Gambler is the OG.
I’ve already watched the entire 2nd season 😅
I have an episode and a half left!
Hell yeah another cocoa couch vid thanks mate!
You really should react to the video "SQUID GAME Breakdown: Every Easter Egg, Clue, Hidden Detail & Ending Explained"... it will completely blow your mind.
Oscar, would you ever react to fleabag?
amazing reaction as per usual. i hope you check out alice in borderland soon. it's an amazing series
19:20 your on point
My mum & my brother are watching Squid Game now!
oh i’ve been WAITING for this one.
SPOILER FOR SEASON 2
I completely forgot about the VIP aspect in season 2 so now that I think about it they will probably keep the games going despite the rebellion just for the VIPs. I thought they would just kill everyone in the waiting room but that doesn’t make sense, it would make the vips mad
Season two is very good
u gotta watch season 2
I would love to see you react to the show ". monsters : the lyle and erik mernedez story "
🤓
I hope you can react on alice on borderland next 😍
Please consider reacting to The Umbrella Academy Its my favorite show!
this one was so good, looking forward to season 2! also day 16 of asking for gravity falls!!
how are u only watching this now
Loved your reaction 🫶
Day 10: of suggesting my girl (1991)
Day 1 of asking you to watch all of us are dead
Pls watch season 2 it’s the best
PLEASE REACT TO THE LIVE ACTION SERIES OF "ONCE PIECE"! 😱🔥💕
