- There is a lot to talk about when talking about French opera, chanson, melodie, folk music, musette, and the slew of other types of music and art that came out of Europe during the Belle Epoque time period, as well as directly after ww1 into the modern world. But one thing is clear, Genshin Impact never misses when it comes to recognizing cultural music and the importance of it within a specific area. Looking forward to this in a big way.

I will have a sit down with the new trailer that dropped the other night as soon as I'm back from vacation! In the meantime, I hope you enjoy this video :)
cant wait for your reaction!
would like to see your analyse about the music in the teaser !
See you soon Mr.Dvorak
With: "Steampunk version of France" I somehow had to think of the Dieselpunk game Iron Harvest, because I've been waiting impatiently for a long time for the French to be integrated into that game. I would be very interested if you look up the music because in combination with the art of Jakub Różalski I always found them incredibly fitting and coherent.
Iron Harvest is set in a world that depicts an alternative outcome of World War I in which huge mechs that emerged from industrialization march above the trenches. The game focuses more on the nations of the Eastern Fronts, Saxony (representing the German Empire), the Rusviets and the somewhat protagonist of the series is Polania, if you will. All these nations also have interesting theme songs where a guess the nation would be interesting.
Yess... Don't forget to check the description for character names after that
One interesting thing about Fontaine is that, in Chinese, "France" is translated as 法国, pronounced /fa-kuo/ and meaning "the nation of the law" which is the main theme of Fontaine
As a french man, let me just say that your knowledge about french art is quite impressive.
Welcome to BRICS by the way ;>
Genshin Impact has been one hell of an intercultural musical journey for me. I'm thrilled at what Fontaine and Yu-Peng Chen has in store for us this time.
The amount of hype that is generated within me for the music of each new Genshin region is scary, but I'm glad I've got Marco to hype me up even more for it lol. God, Fontaine's first album drop can't come soon enough
I think the whole fointaine ost leaked was about 1:40:00 hours long before it got removed on youtube. They're really good. 😂
With Fontaine I have seen a lot of people getting interested in the culture of my country whether for it's music or history, it's amazing how this game is an ode to culture sharing and having someone like you who explain this kind of thing with that amount of passion is, in my opinion, the best thing that could've happen. Thank you for your work Marco !
Gang gang woo
Welcome to BRICS by the way ;>
@@Zarozian France is a member of BRICS now ? I don’t really follow economical news
I just want to say, I love your pronunciation of French words
I can't remember if you've seen the Teyvat Chapter Travail trailer, but in case you havent, it was released around Genshin's launch almost 3 years ago, featuring what is considered the "roadmap" for the entire game's story, but shown to us in a very cryptic way so it's not really a spoiler. Each region has a sneak peek with a character from that region and a short preview of the region's song theme / leitmotif - which has been accurate to the themes we've heard so far, now that they are out. And the Fontaine's section (which featured Lynney and Lynnette's first appearence) also shows a bit of the theme and it has a VERY strong resemblance to Camille Saint Saëns' "Aquarium", which looks very intentional with the "water" thing they have in common. It seems a very cool nod to a French musician as well. Not to mention, Aquarium has a very mysterious, "peeking-around-the-corner", tip-toeing-around sort of vibe that matches Fontaine's region so well. I'm very hyped about the music they've shown us so far!
Oh wow, it does sound like "Aquarium". How have I never heard of this before?
@@annaairahala9462 really cool right?? Cant wait to hear the whole Fontaine theme.
Since we heard it in Arlecchinos introduction in the last feast trailer and see one in the concert hall/court of fontaine, I hope there will be a lot of use of organ music. Video Game Music + Pipe Organs + Yu Peng-Chen = Masterpiece
Something interesting to note, Fontaine's main theme we heard in the travail teaser was only played when she showed up. Maybe her battle theme will heavily feature that leitmotif
say no more. It's a bit James Bond, Mission Impossible aesthetics too. definitely nailing it hard
@@coffeeshampoo87 yep immediately noticed that. It was like "Fontaine theme with a fatui twist"
From the Fontaine musician himself!! Gotta love it!! I learned the piano when I was little and got exposed to the world of European classical music. I'm so excited for Fontaine music!! Please please please let there be all those musical genres!!!
I'm looking forward to a grand, sweeping theme in Fontaine, just like we had in Inazuma and Sumeru. The music in the Teyvat Travail trailer reminds me of Aquarium from the Carnival of Animals by Camille Saint-Saens, perfectly fitting for hydro and the magician theme of Lyney and Lynette.
YEEEES i also thought of Aquarium 🤩🤩
FONTAINEEEEE
As a french person im curious about a lot of things reguarding Fontaine and its music is definitely one of those things i look forward to the most i really want to see if i will hear familiar sounds (probably will since i have full confidence in Yu Peng Chen and his compositions that represent all the diverse cultures) and as someone who has Celtic blodo from the north west of france i really want some of the more flolkloric sounds to be showcased somehow
Welcome to BRICS by the way ;>
Considering the Dawn Winery theme is (to me) spiritually, Greensleeves, I wouldn't have any doubt there will be a Genshin equivalent to Claire de Lune.
I had to recheck because I misheard Belle Epoque as "Belobog", which is funny enough to be steampunk on its own, reminiscent of the Fontaine theme.
From the teaser sounds like there's going to be some jazz pieces as well.
Also, it is said that Rock music in Teyvat is originated in Fontaine, so it seems like there's gonna be some rock too :)
Imagine we get a full opera cinematic. I hope we do! It's basically the perfect region for that.
Alongside Debussy, I hope that there will be some renditions of Erik Satie as well. There's always something enchanting about their styles of music that I hold dear in my heart every time I hear them play.
Also, aside from all the cultural aspects you've touched on, there is one cultural art that the French was very famous for at the time: French ironworks. It's something we still see imitated all around, but an art form that has been mostly lost to time. It reminds me much of an anime called "La Croissée dans un Labyrinthe Étranger" that takes place during this French industrial period.
Another thing that comes to mind are the famous French automatons and clockworks. It's also interesting to see them include a character uses a pistol as well, seeing as the French were also one of the forward pioneers in firearms tech during that time period. Revolvers, smokeless powder, integrated cartridges, self-loading (semi-auto) pistols and rifles...there were many firearms innovations that came out of that time period of France.
Erik Satie mentioned! I love his works
YESS I ALSO WANT OPERA IN FONTAINE
An opera singer playable character from fontaine will be a good additon. We already have yun jin for the chinese opera. One more opera singer, please hoyo.
oui oui baguette delicieux
The speed of you delivering information is so so good - generally it is, but especially in this video, love it, the editing is so deliciously good too 🥹
And yaaaa so excited about Fontaine toooo 😊
Glad you liked it. It’s a lot of info but tried to keep it concise and general rather than excessively specific
If you listen closely to the "Court of Fontaine Day/Night" you can spot the inspiration from the "O mamma, mamma cara." folklore song, more known as "My Hat, It Has Three Corners"
Such excitement! now I feel excited for the upcoming patch with the new music and new characters from Fontaine! I'll keep watching your videos marco and share the excitement on how amazing video game music can be!
0:17 The second try was the most accurate one, and, as a french, I'm excited to discover the region and its music !
This is the reason why I absolutely love Europe in general and its people because of their History, Culture, Arts, Music, Literature, Architecture, Science, Technology, and Innovations
I think you might want to keep your expectations on check tbh.
If the portrayal of Inazuma and Sumeru teaches us anything about Hoyo and how they present each regions, it is that they don't really go for the obvious gimmicks.
There's no prince of Persia things in the desert, there's no obvious spices and bollywood dancing in Sumeru city, rather focus on the scholary which reference the time when middle east was the knowledge centre of the world.
Other than that, with Inazuma, they have very strong portrayal of radioactive waste from previous war, undoubtedly taken from WWII and it's nuclear aftermath, also how many games out there actually reference the Sakoku decree and the sword confiscation like Hoyo did with vision hunt decree as well as the obvious tension between Watatsumi and mainland, a reflection of Okinawa's relation with main island Japan.
Which is why it's exciting, I'm sure Hoyo will dig up themes, fairtales, or even history/folklore, or a struggle in a time period in france that is often times overlooked by western game dev counterparts when portraying France.
I was very concern about Sumeru ending up gimmicky prior to it's release, thinking it''ll be too Prince of Persia or Egypt like, but what we got, oh boy was it familiar yet completely unique.
I think my expectations are right where they should be ;)
4:36 let's hope that's the bgm when you enter the court of Fontaine
*DIVINE BAGUETTE* 😂
Hoyomix just released their Behind The Scenes of Fontaine music! I hope you can check it and see how much of their thought processes match your expectations back then :D
Can't wait for your take on music from the teaser, it added a lot.
i can already taste omelette du fromage.
my fingers are crossed for a pinch of impressionism 🥺
This was a great video! A different approach to react content that works well with your style of interpretation based on music and you could add so much more information in a more efficient manner.
I love this new concept of videos!
Thank you!
If Fontaine is based of France, I'm expecting real good music. Or great in game food recipes 😂.
DIVINE BAGUETTE!
Any chance cristal di baschet (or glass harp/glass armonica) might make an appearance? I feel like the ominous and haunting feeling that can be produced from this is unparalleled, especially when we know that there will be ocean exploration (and probably deep sea exploration).
Je suis d'accord avec les propos de cette vidéo et je suis évidemment très éxit... J'attends vraiment fontaine avec impatience !
:) bien sur! Clairment moi aussi hhshe
I just can't wait to hear Fountaine in its entirety.
I part of me think that Ballet will be more popular in Snezhnaya (Russia), but with Ballet being from France, I hope there is some!
I hope there is a lot of things! lol. Looking forward to the new region.
hope to get your commentary on the newer trailer soon too! i don’t know if you know music from maplestory, but they have a sort of french-inspired (i mean heavy masquerade, dreamy theatrical vibes) city named lachelein and i really like the city ost (please check it out!!) and it was what i had in mind when imagining fontaine music~ the newer trailer did deliver a bit more👌
Given how much effort they put into Sumeru with the dancers, the animals, the emerites playing cards and the like, i really hope they carry that over to Fontaine. There is so much you can do with this region I can't wait!
French boss battle bgm... incoming
man im so excited for some epic accoridon battle music.
spreaking of accodions, i would love to see a video from you on
On the Champs-Désolés from The Witcher 3.
Thinking to the future, if we don't get some Basso Profundo in Schneznaya I'm going to mildly disappointed.
The accordion was an Italian instrument??? I thought it was made first in France. whoa TIL (today I learned)!
I'm especially stoked about the battle themes, including the possible fight with Arlecchino
This. This is the reason why I came back to the game.
I'm so bad at french that half of the video I'm just going "I like your funny words, magic man" lol
Loloooooo
Thank you very much Margo, I've heard this lovely melody in some movies but I don't know what song. I just know at 4.14, it's clair de lune.
I CAN'T WAIT~! 🎶
As late 1800's and just Victorian era/"La Belle Epoque" in general is my favorite timeline EVER, I am very excited for Fontaine!
And if they have flamenco I will lose my sh-aaaaaaaaaaaaa~ ♥
fontaine music preview is out in the genshin livestream
I'll be checking on the Meatball during our entire journey though Fontaine. I'm so hyped for this area and the music and visuals.
Excited for music fr this time
The main leitmotif of Fontaine is aquarium
Hoyo is naughty when France is in chaos😂😂😂.
man if there is no ballet character ill be so sad. not expecting the focus on performing arts that sumeru had, but even some mention... please.... ballet is one of frances greatest and most famous cultural exports
Clair de Lune is going to be wild if they put it in there, like twisted or serene like let's gooo (or if they put other stuff from Suite Bergamasque)
Sincerely hope that there will be opera in Fontaine❤🇫🇷
Hoyoverse really have to start to give this man a cast for playable characters, I mean, your voice just fit so much to the video like you are the narator
I'm a bit sas that they didn't add sandrone, I was expecting them to add her since she has the perfect costum and especially has that robot thus expecting her to be some kind of robot manufacturer in fountaine
Sandrone might just appear out of the blue later like Scaramouche did when he was revealed in the version 3.1 trailer and appear in a later act. (Not a leak btw) We'll just have to see!
@@-Genki you're right, there might be also columbina, capitano or the mayor dude that potentially be added to the plot, though it is very vague becuase I've only assume on their costume as well
gosh i'm so curious what french composers theyll reference (while knowing one of my faves prob won't be 😩 e.g. Mel Bonis, Chaminade) but aaaa i'm so excited
ngl, I like this, it's a video about speculating on the next major patch of genshin without having to talk too much about lore, gameplay or exploration.
Oh boi the comedy in this video is so informative and funny at the same time xD
I am really looking forward to the new music. It's the one thing that is consistently good with hoyoverse games.
I miss read your title as Fortunate Son. Though I would pay to hear an orchestral version of that song in a game.
Divine Baguette.
I know it's not strictly speaking a French instrument, but I'm still really hoping we can get a calliope in there somewhere.
I will admit when I saw the new Fontaine teaser and opened the description for the VA names but didn't see Marco's there, I was a little disappointed lol.
Yea. It’s okay. Hoping for an opportunity eventually. I’m working harder on acting classes and more audition opportunities so maybe it can happen eventually.
Best timing
i assume arlecchino will be the next harbinger who becomes a weekly boss, so we will surely have a banger coming in soon with the choir and everything
I have no idea who any of those composers are, but I guess it’s something for me to look into to!
FONTAAAAAAIIIIIIINE!
MERCI BEACOUPE!!!
no no no, marco. "divine baguette" is correct.
but also, i would expect that at least the courtroom scenes will have some show-y, maybe operatic or musical-esque piece. the fact that the the hydro archon apparently treats the courtroom as her personal theater would make this darkly fitting.
I would MELT to hear a Hoyo take on Clair De Lune
Oooo~!!! i love Clair De lune.
Fontaine is based on all Europe, not just France but all of europe for it's music has some spanish, english and some others.
People only talk about Fontaine characters or landscape but the thing I need is to see how Yu Peng Chen cook
ohhh beau soir
Well, what i really waiting from Fontaine is some French Jazz.
Citing Lily Boulanger
Riot games came out with a new song called "Shine on" from Legends of Runeterra. And you simply have to give it a listen!
Oui oui
Dvorzak rerun when?? 😂😂😂
Привет, Марко! Будь осторожен, завышенные ожидания приводят к разочарованию) Всех благ!
Spasiba
baguette 🥖 😁
Alright boiz it time day one of asking for Darksiders 2 gaurdian theme.
U know what to do guys.
3:20 - 3:51 😮😮
Ah, baguettes
Also every time I hear the name fountain I keep thinking of that girl from The Deep
Probably the only character I currently want to get apart from Jean and Eula
(No offense to any other characters)
Spanish is one of the language I wanna learn, I self study to speak English but Spanish is too difficult for me.
Lili Boulanger aAaaaaaaaa
1:07 Wasn't Faust a stage play by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe? Or is this an other Faust?
It is yes that’s the original
@@MarcoMeatball Ok I see. At least something I remembered correctly from literature class :D
My mind replaced Fontaine with Fortnite every time i glanced at the title
There better be rats in Fontaine
A lot
What about chef rat?
better be some "rats d'égouts "
This is one of the rare guys who give too much credit to genshin music. Bro literally compares it with classical music
Bro just don’t bother commenting something so meaningless. Go play other games, get off RUclips. Don’t even watch this video. But thank you for the revenue. It’s not worth it. I like the music and I like the game fine and the music is great. Don’t waste your time leaving meaningless comments. It’s not good for your health.
@@MarcoMeatball 🥲
Don't get me wrong. I'm here coz I love genshin music. All I wanted to say was you appreciate Genshin music at a level nobody else does.
Sorry for my bad English 😭
@@newbie4789"give too much credit" is negative phase. It means that it is not as good as other people said.
@@newbie4789 HAHAHA i totally misread this and you got my sassy response!!! You're so welcome. hahahahahahaha don't worry, I do believe that very much.
Quaso
As a british person i am obligated to hate the french... that said I am very much looking forward to experiencing all of what fontaine has to offer.
day 4 of asking for Roland.
As a descendent of anti-French sentiment, I will be open minded and set aside my aversion to all things French, for the sake of this.
