deadbeat2020 I know, Stevie also has the second most Grammys ever, and produced probably the greatest run of albums ever from Music of My Mind - Songs in the Key of Life, three of the albums earned him grammys for best album. Although think Led Zeppelin earns the spot for their vast influence (or I could be biased and I don’t even know it) but Stevie should be #3 for sure, I think #2 should be Bee Gees because the 70s of generally defined by disco and especially the Bee Gee’s songs from Saturday Night Fever.

Exactly without him ,i dont think many artists from this list would be here ,i think they are too obsessed with zeppelin too,,they are badass i know but.. They have to notic its not the biggest thing from the 70s
Bowie is an ICON of major proportions and not even an HM is the worst omission they made EVER his influence is huge. and he was a huge star and sold a shitload of records. They also dropped the ball on new wave/post punk as The Police only get an HM in the 1980s like. A genre what was huge is not even mentioned.
Ivonne Camacho Actually Led Zeppelin are way over the top..just take the skills of each member..but I definitely agree that David Bowie should be in the list, maybe instead of the Eagles, who I consider to be kinda boring ;)
This has to be the hardest decade to rank, but still, I find it a little off that the Ramones are in the top ten but not Stevie Wonder. Also, no mention of Bob Marley or Marvin Gaye? Not even an honorable mention?
Agreed about Stevie Wonder and the Ramones. The Ramones were a great live band but their rock-n-roll on steroids sound didn't even begin with them. Iggy & the Stooges basically cemented the antagonism and visceral sound of punk before the Ramones even plugged in. Calling them one of the important bands of the 1970's is a rewrite of history. They weren't considered that influential until the 80's came around. New York Dolls, yes. Patti Smith Group, yes. Sex Pistols, yes. The Ramones were like the Beach Boys on 'roids and only a few people cared about them until punk became streamlined to a single sound aka hardcore.
I can agree with rainbow, but not deep purple. But also.. I think Elton John Contributed more to musical history and societal acceptance of LGBTQ to be removed. He's an idol in so many ways and more of a household name than rainbow and deep purple combined.
I always wished I was a concert going teen in Britain during the time period you mention: Bowie, TRex, The Sweet & other glitter rock bands not to mention Black Sabbath & all the bands starting out like early Queen which I love, I ❤️ the ‘Queen II’ album!
My list: 10. Bee Gees 9. David Bowie 8. Black Sabbath 7. KISS 6. Eagles 5. Marvin Gaye 4. Elton John 3. Pink Floyd 2. Led Zeppelin 1. Queen Honorable Mentions: Jackson 5 Aerosmith ABBA Stevie Wonder Ramones Deep Purple Rush Fleetwood Mac Earth,Wind And Fire Bob Marley Chicago Rainbow Frank Zappa Judas Priest Don McLean Billy Joel Cheap Trick Lynyrd Skynyrd The Sex Pistols Parliament There's a lot of honorable mentions because the 70s had so many great artists that I needed to at least mention. I may need to think it again. But for now this is my opinion. If you have any arguments that are intelligent and you will respect my opinions feel free to post it down there.
zendaddy621 Crap! I forgot about them! Cheap Trick is an honorable mention though, I'll add Sex Pistols somewhere. I also think Clash was in the 60s list, not sure though. Sticky Ente I see what you mean, but I'm also trying to put different types of genres in there. And I just personally think Queen was better, good argument though. If it was best of the 70s they would be in the top 10 somewhere. And thanks man.
10. Stevie Wonder 9. Fleetwood Mac 8. Ramones 7. Black Sabbath 6. Bee Gees 5. DAVID BOWIE!!! 4. Marvin Gaye 3. Queen 2. Led Zeppelin 1. Pink Floyd But seriously how do you forget Bowie and Gaye
I was in my teenage years in the UK in the 1970's and for me it would be defined by music from Slade, Deep Purple, Pink Floyd, TRex, The Stranglers, The Clash, The Sex Pistols, Roxy Music, ELO and Elton John amongst many others.
The 70s was the most diverse musical decade ever. Pop, metal, disco, progressive, punk, country, British blues rock, new wave, southern rock, folk ,ECT. All very popular at the time.
All the best musical artists are british FACT. The beatles, the kinks, the hollies, the rolling stones, led zepelin, the animals, black sabbath, pink floyd, E.L.O, super tramp, queen, david bowie, elton john, the bee gees, phil collins, wham, cliff richard, the shadows, oasis, blur, pulp, muse. Plus they all write their own songs too hehe talent.
What about Rush, they are not British and better than a lot of what you have listed or Alter Bridge, Reel Big Fish, Bob Marley, Dio and Nightwish for example.
3 words: The Velvet Underground. Oh and Aerosmith and Jimi Hendrix and The Beach Boys and the Ramones etc.. All American. Though I do agree the Brits had a significantly higher amount of talented artists.
MrKestryl I still don't get how anyone likes Rush. I agree with almost everything he listed, especially Pink Floyd. Anyway, it's all opinion by all of us.
Bob dylan, simon and garfunkel, the four seasons, the doors, don mclean. Thats about it really. Elvis would be there if he wrote his own songs. I dont like michael jackson at all and ill tell you why cause i never want to listen to his music the songs are catchy and good dont get me wrong but i never ever listen to them cause i dont want to.
I agree with you, The Beatles are my favorite band ever (Paul is my fave beatle) but its important to know that the Beatles were big fans of american rock and roll (Buddy Holly, Carl Perkins, Chuck Berry etc.) Also they liked american girl groups and country acts like Bob Dylan for example. So, both countries have great musicians and it depends on taste bro, but american artist were really important influence for the brittish invasion back in the day.
I honestly and personally love this list! The trifecta/triumvirate of rock bands: 1. Led Zeppelin 2. Pink Floyd 3. Queen As a bonus, I'll add BS, Ramones, Aerosmith and Eagles as well.
If i hear Staying Alive or the BeeGees again im going to scream. I was 15 at the time and SUPPOSED to like them. All my mates had Saturday Night Fever. I had to hide my rock albums at the back of the rack else I’d been mashed
Erick-fernando reyes. I’m white and British and we had real trouble getting hold of Clinton and Bootsy and i cant find any downloads. Help me! Any ideas where i can get any ?
@@TheTibmeister the best era of floyd was their early years. Listen to piper at the gates of dawn or saucerful of secrets. Those albums are better than the dark side era of floyd. Dark side was a great record. WYWH I didnt care for. Animals was their last great album then the Wall came out. I can't stand the wall.
I think Led have deserved their top spot. Not only have they created some of the most well known songs, every song they released has been anywhere from great to amazing. For me at least there is no band I can honestly say I like every single one of their songs except for Led Zeppelin.
I like to think that all of their albums were great, but not necessarily all of their songs. Physical Graffiti and In Through the Out Door are full of filler songs that are nowhere near good.
Stevie Wonder. I repeat: Stevie Wonder. And if you didn't hear me: STEVIE MOTHERFUCKIN' WONDER!! Where the hell is he? Stevie contributed so much to the musical landscape of the 1970s that he definitely warranted a spot on the list, not just an honorable mention.
Was disappointed Black Sabbath was so low, but it's understandable considering they didn't have the commercial success as these other artists. But they are arguably the most influential, next to Zeppelin. Also, some people nowadays don't like to give Led Zeppelin as much credit now that they're plagiarism has come to light these past few years. No matter what your opinion is on that though, they are still the most defining artist of the 70's, I don't care what you say. In my opinion they are still one of the greatest bands of all time. I would put any of their 100% original songs next to any other bands best songs. The individual skill of their 4 members is pretty much unparalleled.
Led Zeppelin's plagerism is weird. Yes, they stole songs, but most of the songs they did were original, particularly towards the end of their career. But If they did steal a song, they would modify it and make the song their own. They basiclly put their own style into it.
I would argue that Sabbath is even more influential than Zeppelin. Zeppelin were masters of many genres and dabbled in a lot...Black Sabbath pretty much invented heavy metal.
These deserved at least a mention: Journey Alice Cooper ACDC Aerosmith Bob Marley Boston And judging by popularity and association with the decade ABBA,led zeppelin,Bee Gees and Queen should have made the top 4 positions. Hard Rock/Heavy Metal and Disco music dominated the 70s and these bands represented that genres and sold more records than any other artist from that decade.
Kraftwerk. Bob Marley is also a very good call. I think the list could have been a little more diverse. Oh, and I wouldn't have minded a second Progressive Rock act (next to Pink Floyd) as the genre was pretty strong during the first half of the 70s: Genesis, Mike Oldfield, King Crimson, Yes, Emerson, Lake & Palmer.
Carol King, Wings, Carpenters, Donna Summer, David Bowie, Rod Stewart, Barry Manilow, Chicago, Neil Diamond, and even Barbra Streisand are all inexplicably missing. While some of these represent genres that may not have lasted the test of time, they were all huge in the 70s.
KISS owned the 70's they changed the world the original four left a mark on rock music for decades hell even the stupid hall of fame acknowledges it how could you overlook them
Top 10 KISS Songs You're welcome. KISS was not really decade defining across all genres. When we do our metal (a loose term, in that upcoming series) I am fairly certain that KISS will get its nod... but to suggest that KISS cracked the top 10 of ALL genres is kinda crazy. Signed Mr X
WatchMojo.com I guess your right but they where still pretty big at one point in Japan in 1977 the top four acts where Led Zeppelin, ABBA, The Runways, and KISS
I have heard some historians say that the first half of the 1970s was considered still part of the late 60s, as in it was still part of the Civil Rights and Hippie movements. Many thought that things didn't really start changing until after we ran out of Vietnam.
I'm glad to see Pink Floyd so high on the list! They're forever #1 to me! Also glad to see them using Echoes as the sample and not solely their hyper-mainstream stuff like Another Brick!
@@vanplq8841 the eagles are the second biggest band of all time and have the 1st and 3rd biggest albums ever while having the most talented band musician wise
You can't have all hard rock/metal acts in a decade-defining artists video. Those artists plus Led Zepp and Sabbath would make the video half hard rock and half other stuff, and wouldn't have any room for artists that helped define the decade more than any of those.
To be fair, the 70s had way too many great bands: Genesis, Yes, Mike Oldfield, Emerson, Lake & Palmer weren't mentioned either. What really bummed me out though was that Kraftwerk is missing. They may not be as commercially successful as the bands mentioned, but they started the whole electronic music and would easily fit in a list of the Top 10 influential music acts of all time.
I love Led Zep (I have all the albums), but i don't see fair that Pink Floyd makes in the 2nd place, mentioning that Whole Lotta Love and Stairway To Heaven are accused of rip-off... (Also, David Bowie, Genesis, Iggy Pop, David Bowie and Aerosmith deserved an honorable mention...)
I'm sure that Pink Floyd was second because they give AMAZING shows, and still do, though most members are not present. I'm not sure, but I believe the Wall was performed live, but I can't be sure. Led Zeppelin is amazing as well. I consider them the greatest rock band of the time.
Yeah Bowie and Sex Pistols should definitely be in there, Joy Division is an amazing band but there music kinda falls awkwardly between 1979-1980, so its hard to put them in a decade
Joy division had a lot of comercial success but they didn’t last long. The bands and artists mentioned released more music. Joy Division is still great though.
My Black List 1. Stevie Wonder 2.The Jacksons 3.Earth, Wind, & Fire 4. Marvin Gaye 5.Parliament-Funkadelic 6. Donna Summer 7. Diana Ross 8.Gladys Knight 9.Curtis Mayfield 10. Issac Hayes
Stevie not being on this list made me stop taking watchmojo seriously. NO artist put out as much quality music in the 70s than Stevie Wonder. I think I'm not using hyperbole when I say this would be the equivalent of omitting the Beatles from the 60s or MJ from the 80s. He was that prolific
Well imagine if they put the beach boys or rolling stones ahead of the beatles on the 60s list, and/or oasis or Radiohead above nirvana on the 90s list. There would be a HUGE outrage. It's not predictable, it's just what the general public and critics agree on, and who the absolute most influential artists were.
I lived that decade from ages 11 to 21, and I disagree. Sure, Queen were great, but these young 'uns aren't looking at this from inside the 70s, just looking back from a much different perspective. I saw Queen in '78 and they were just then getting to where Zep, Bowie and The Stones had been for years! And speaking of Bowie and The Stones... fail.
@@williamoliveaux3435 - Ehhhhh, sorry - but no. Yeah, The Stones became 'famous' in the 1960s, primarily as a pop group. And this is going to piss off a lot of Brian Jones blinkered fanatics, but the band did not reach their creative zenith until the 1970s with the additions of Mick Taylor and Ron Wood. The list of albums speaks for itself: Let it Bleed, Sticky Fingers, Exile on Main St., Goats Head Soup, It's Only Rock and Roll, Black and Blue, Some Girls. Not to mention record-breaking tours that redefined what a rock band was live. I saw The Stones live in 1978 at Anaheim stadium - two dates, sold out, 90,000+ people over two days. Saw Queen the same year - one date, 16,000 total. Anybody (this video's producers) who discounts the Stones as "not being of the 1970s" was not there and has no clue.
The amount of sold concert tickets does not automatically define someone more important than another, if we compare Stones classics and Queen classics from the 70s, I bet there is no argument which band has made a bigger impact for the later generations.
Pate Pulkkinen/vtec - Don't get me wrong, Queen had an amazing run. And everyone has their crap songs (Radio Gaga). Even my own two brothers, AKA my closest friends, don't "get" The Stones. Let's just put it down to taste, though I think my position will ultimately prevail. You have a Finnish name. Maybe you've heard of Machina Vremini, the Russian Beatles. Who in the english speaking word has even heard of that amazing group? Lots of room for everyone.

@@a-tstudios7725 I don't understand what the hell u are trying to say, Queen started around 72, I was talking about the fact that they were showing a footage of the eighties on a seventies video
@Sailor Vincent Jesus Christ, the name was adopted later than 1970, it was adopted around 1972! The Le Marquee Show seems to be their first official performance as QUEEN, not as SMILE
Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd got the majority of their relevance in the 70's. Pink Floyd put out arguably the greatest 4 album streak in all music, with Dark Side Of The Moon (1973,) Wish You Were Here (1975,) Animals (1977,) and finally The Wall (1979) Each of these except Animals (was too radio unfriendly) hit #1 on the Billboard charts, and The Wall snagged a #1 single. Led Zeppelin, likewise, put out their own series of epic albums and songs with albums in the 70s after releasing only 2 albums in 1969. Led Zeppelin III, Houses Of The Holy, Physical Graffiti, Presence, and In Through The Out Door all charted at #1, while only Led Zeppelin II did in '69. The 70s album that didn't chart, Led Zeppelin IV, somehow became more legendary than it's #1 counterparts, with massive critical awards. Led Zeppelin became well known for huge influential songs like Black Dog, Rock And Roll, Kashmir, and the titanic Stairway To Heaven. Queen also had quite their fair share of iconic songs and chart success in the '80s. Another One Bites The Dust, Crazy Little Thing Called Love, Under Pressure...ect. To summarize, even though Floyd and Zeppelin were formed in the 60s, they were 100% 70s sound.
i love the queen pink floyd and led zeppelin rivalry over supremacy of 70s music. it's always so tough to call who wins bc they win in their own categories and i love how everyone argues over it even though there is no clear winner
Was going to be mad if Rush wasn't anywhere in the video. Can't imagine the # of artists that their 6 albums in the 70s influenced. Glad Sabbath got in there as well for metal.
***** Rush would've been amazing to see during the Caress of Steel or 2112 days. I mean, they're still an EXCELLENT live band to this day, but it'd have been awesome to be around during the early Rush years.
Neil Peart is honestly my drumming inspiration, but I saw them and he came off as a mean dude. He went to the dressing room right after the show and didn't stay with the other two. But I bet he's just getting old though
If I had to reorder this top 10, it would be: 1. Pink Floyd 2. Led Zeppelin 3. Queen 4. Fleetwood Mac 5. Eagles 6. Black Sabbath 7. Elton John 8. Bee Gees 9. The Ramones 10. ABBA I missed King Crimson, early Yes and early Genesis though. But well, i'm a sucker for progressive rock.
Here Are Mine: 10. King Crimson 9. Led Zeppelin 8. The Police 7. The Clash 6. Jethro Tull 5. Emerson, Lake & Palmer 4. Genesis (in particular 1970 - 1974) 3. David Bowie 2. Queen 1. Pink Floyd
If that was the case, I'd still pick Pink Floyd. Led Zep is good and all but... Pink Floyd man - Pink - Floyd. Zep seems to have only ever really been a rock band. Pink Floyd were always so much more, Pink Floyd were true artists experimenting with so many different musical elements and lyrical topics. They also released one of the greatest albums of all time, did I say greatest rock album? No - One of the greatest albums in general, move over Mozart.
Steely Dan should be on this list. AJA is one of the 1970's best albums and introudce me the drumming of Steve Gadd and Berine Perdue. A classic album from very underatted band.
I feel like the bee gees should have been higher in the list. Disco is one of the first things people think about when they hear about the 70's and they have very iconic voices.

Bowie was the start of the androgenous looks and glam in rock n roll ,he deserves it :3
This has to be the hardest decade to rank, but still, I find it a little off that the
Ramones are in the top ten but not Stevie Wonder. Also, no mention of Bob Marley or Marvin Gaye? Not even an honorable mention?
Ramones created a genre...
João M. V. Exactly
Marvin was mentioned
Queen is #1 calling it
Fuck
I don't know if I want to agree or not. If it's not queen than it's zeppelin.. BUT I CAN'T CHOSE!
I can agree with rainbow, but not deep purple. But also.. I think Elton John Contributed more to musical history and societal acceptance of LGBTQ to be removed. He's an idol in so many ways and more of a household name than rainbow and deep purple combined.
Hoshmeister I wouldnt take out Elton John but rather fleetwood mac or the ramones... cause everything else has been pretty damn huge to take out...
Well that comment is kind of pointless now...
The first 5 years of the 70s are definitly the best in all time music history.
I always wished I was a concert going teen in Britain during the time period you mention: Bowie, TRex, The Sweet & other glitter rock bands not to mention Black Sabbath & all the bands starting out like early Queen which I love, I ❤️ the ‘Queen II’ album!
I’d say 7 years but that’s my hot take
65-75. Yeah
My list:
10. Bee Gees
9. David Bowie
8. Black Sabbath
7. KISS
6. Eagles
5. Marvin Gaye
4. Elton John
3. Pink Floyd
2. Led Zeppelin
1. Queen
Honorable Mentions:
Jackson 5
Aerosmith
ABBA
Stevie Wonder
Ramones
Deep Purple
Rush
Fleetwood Mac
Earth,Wind And Fire
Bob Marley
Chicago
Rainbow
Frank Zappa
Judas Priest
Don McLean
Billy Joel
Cheap Trick
Lynyrd Skynyrd
The Sex Pistols
Parliament
There's a lot of honorable mentions because the 70s had so many great artists that I needed to at least mention.
I may need to think it again. But for now this is my opinion. If you have any arguments that are intelligent and you will respect my opinions feel free to post it down there.
I agree about David Bowie and KISS; I also think Cheap Trick, The Sex Pistols, and The Clash should have gotten at least honorable mentions...
I would put aerosmith instead of bee gees (just don't like Disco) and led Z at 1
but besides that great list
zendaddy621 Crap! And thanks man.
zendaddy621 The clash was in the 60s list, i think they were top 3, not sure though
Where the hell is Judas Priest? They were in the 70's and their best albums came from that era -.-
10. Stevie Wonder
9. Fleetwood Mac
8. Ramones
7. Black Sabbath
6. Bee Gees
5. DAVID BOWIE!!!
4. Marvin Gaye
3. Queen
2. Led Zeppelin
1. Pink Floyd
But seriously how do you forget Bowie and Gaye
Where is ABBA? They were and are so iconic. They basically defined a generation.
but how are you going to put queen on top of bowie??????? Bowie is the most influential artist of the 70s, by far!
I was in my teenage years in the UK in the 1970's and for me it would be defined by music from Slade, Deep Purple, Pink Floyd, TRex, The Stranglers, The Clash, The Sex Pistols, Roxy Music, ELO and Elton John amongst many others.
ELO b like incredible
The who?
Led zeppelin? The biggest band of the 70s
@@unforgettablefootballmatch1590 the who is more of a 60s band
It's sad that the very last original Ramone died recently. Rest in peace you genius punk.
While I’m sad that Bowie is not in the list, Led Zeppelin is definitely the number one musical act of the 70s
The 70s was the most diverse musical decade ever. Pop, metal, disco, progressive, punk, country, British blues rock, new wave, southern rock, folk ,ECT. All very popular at the time.
but there was no dubstep :(
All the best musical artists are british FACT.
The trifecta/triumvirate of rock bands:
1. Led Zeppelin
2. Pink Floyd
3. Queen
As a bonus, I'll add BS, Ramones, Aerosmith and Eagles as well.
I think Floyd and zep are tied
Awesome to see Pink Floyd get some love here, disappointed you didn't reference Wish You Were Here at all while talking about them XD.
Salient and Sentient. Uh uh. Nah. Not Wish You Were Here. Year before .Dark Side
@@jan_Travis Numnuts..
I think Led have deserved their top spot. Not only have they created some of the most well known songs, every song they released has been anywhere from great to amazing. For me at least there is no band I can honestly say I like every single one of their songs except for Led Zeppelin.
Hahahaha
Hot dog? c'mon
@@paulainsile5016 Only Hot dog???? hahaha there's a lot more than only one song
I like to think that all of their albums were great, but not necessarily all of their songs. Physical Graffiti and In Through the Out Door are full of filler songs that are nowhere near good.
No honorable mentions for Aerosmith
David Bowie, or Kiss?! (>_
agree
I agree with kiss
Maybe it would be the 80s
Wasn't kiss already in there other list from the 60's?
Kiss come in the 70's
Stevie Wonder. I repeat: Stevie Wonder. And if you didn't hear me: STEVIE MOTHERFUCKIN' WONDER!! Where the hell is he? Stevie contributed so much to the musical landscape of the 1970s that he definitely warranted a spot on the list, not just an honorable mention.
I agree. Stevie Wonder is a legend. Everybody loves Stevie. The only artist to win a Grammy award for best album twice.
Black sabath sold 80 million records for ur information so they deserve an honrable mention
Izzu Sulaiman They entered the top 10. But still they could have been higher.
I would argue that Sabbath is even more influential than Zeppelin. Zeppelin were masters of many genres and dabbled in a lot...Black Sabbath pretty much invented heavy metal.

Alice Cooper
ACDC
Aerosmith
Bob Marley

And judging by popularity and association with the decade ABBA,led zeppelin,Bee Gees and Queen should have made the top 4 positions.
Hard Rock/Heavy Metal and Disco music dominated the 70s and these bands represented that genres and sold more records than any other artist from that decade.
Very true!
AC/DC weren't superstars until 1980
What the hell why did u put journey In the list they are from the seventies 😡 what a disgrace
Vorrn I totally agree. Though Zeppelin is awesome, I still think Floyd should have at least been a little higher.
Carol King Donna Summer and Joni Mitchell
I love Rush, and the fact that they got an "Honorable Mention" on this short list, speaks volumes on how influential they were...
Kip Lambert - Our great Canadian rockers. Amazingly talented.
You included 'RUSH' YAY!! You musta consulted a person who actually lived in the 70s Good going, Stranger!
I hope Led Zeppelin will be the first one.

KISS owned the 70's they changed the world the original four left a mark on rock music for decades hell even the stupid hall of fame acknowledges it how could you overlook them
Top 10 KISS Songs
You're welcome. KISS was not really decade defining across all genres. When we do our metal (a loose term, in that upcoming series) I am fairly certain that KISS will get its nod... but to suggest that KISS cracked the top 10 of ALL genres is kinda crazy.
Signed
Mr X
WatchMojo.com I guess your right but they where still pretty big at one point in Japan in 1977 the top four acts where Led Zeppelin, ABBA, The Runways, and KISS
I believe Rush was also a prominent band in the mid-late seventies but a least they were given some recognition
Matthew Chauvin What about Journey?
+ninjo113 I think journey was more popular in the 80's than the 70's
Watch Mojo must have missed the first 7/8th of of the 1970s.
Also glad to see them using Echoes as the sample and not solely their hyper-mainstream stuff like Another Brick!
....In The Wall.

Don't know if I wanna watch this video if i dosen't have any Alice Cooper in it....
You can't have all hard rock/metal acts in a decade-defining artists video. Those artists plus Led Zepp and Sabbath would make the video half hard rock and half other stuff, and wouldn't have any room for artists that helped define the decade more than any of those.
These all are nonsense they dont how to perform they only KNOW to shock people 😡😡😡😡
To be fair, the 70s had way too many great bands: Genesis, Yes, Mike Oldfield, Emerson, Lake & Palmer weren't mentioned either. What really bummed me out though was that Kraftwerk is missing. They may not be as commercially successful as the bands mentioned, but they started the whole electronic music and would easily fit in a list of the Top 10 influential music acts of all time.
Aerosmith, Meatloaf, Bad Company, 38 Special, Head East, Supertramp the 70"s can't be limited to 10 bands. Best decade of music ever.
Agree totally where as this decade could be a top 1 or two the 70s pretty tough to pick only ten
I think Aerosmith will make the 80's List, though I do agree that David Bowie and Genesis should have been on the list
I'm sure that Pink Floyd was second because they give AMAZING shows, and still do, though most members are not present. I'm not sure, but I believe the Wall was performed live, but I can't be sure. Led Zeppelin is amazing as well. I consider them the greatest rock band of the time.
Yeah, I find Zep to be overrated as fuck, very good but nowhere near Floyd.
Specially the ones between 1973-1979 (Fuck those hipsters who say that those albums where trash...)

Where the hell is Bowie, sex pistols, and joy division?
Yeah Bowie and Sex Pistols should definitely be in there, Joy Division is an amazing band but there music kinda falls awkwardly between 1979-1980, so its hard to put them in a decade

Now this is a list That I can get down with.
I completey agree Led Zeppelin is awesome!
These have been so predictable
I guarantee that the 80's will be Michael Jackson, and 90's will be Nirvana.
Well imagine if they put the beach boys or rolling stones ahead of the beatles on the 60s list, and/or oasis or Radiohead above nirvana on the 90s list. There would be a HUGE outrage. It's not predictable, it's just what the general public and critics agree on, and who the absolute most influential artists were.
just my opinion, but for the british public oasis should be no 1 for 90s
Just because it's predictable, doesn't mean it isn't accurate.
So? Would you rather them be just plain wrong instead of predictable?
Grand Master Pavey I'm no brit but I would place Oasis number 1 in the 90s.
And speaking of Bowie and The Stones... fail.
John Spooner the stones were #2 on their list for the decade-defining acts of the 1960s. They were more 60s, not 70s.

Queen has got to be the #1 greatest band of 70s/80s I've ever heard hands down...
Queen should be in number 1 'cause Punk floyd and Led Zeppelin were founded in the 60´s and Queen in the 70´s

Adam Hennessey true, i can't think of an act quite like the sex pistols
They almost completely ignored punk except for the ramones (which are still a great band)
By the way, if you are enjoying this series on decade-defining acts, make sure to watch our decade defining SONGS:

Do best candy bars!;)
jonas12345566
i think best candies was done... not to sure
***** too*
I believe that Rush deserves more than an honorable mention but I'm still glad that they were mentioned
Rod Stewart and David Bowie at lest deserve an honourable mention surely.
1: Led Zeppelin
2:jackson 5
3: Pink Floyd
4: Black Sabbath
5: Queen
6: Ramones
7: Deep Purple
8: Fleetwood Mac
9: Bee Gees
10: Stevie Wonder
Stevie Wonders should have been #1! He topped the charts every year except the one year he didn't make an album!!!
no led zeppelin should always be #1
i think queen should be the best of this top
Queen couldn't carry Jimmy Page's jockstrap.
@@shanewalton8888 I know. But I think Freddie tried to carry Page's jockstrap.
@@shanewalton8888 Queen were superior song writers, Led Zeppelin were better at instrumental work, its super close in my book, but both of them have their place, IMO Queen should've been 2 and Zep 1
Braydon Barnum did you actually just say that Queen were better songwriters than Zeppelin and that the two groups were “super close?” lol, okay, sure.
@@shanewalton8888
But can Page carry Hendrix's jockstrap as the GOAT of guitars.
If i cant find The Boss in the 80s list, ill be really pissed ;)
1. The Jackson 5
2. Queen
3. Led Zeppelin
4. Bob Marley
5. ABBA
zeppelin is 1 all day every day
Nick Marfoe
That’s his music taste though. At least it made into his list
NO PARLIAMENT-FUNKADELIC?
Queen and black sabbath should have much higher on the list. Along with the Ramones.
Paul Boskovich black sabbath should have been off the list, same for the ramones and Queen should have been 5 or 6! There’s no David Bowie or Donna Summer or kiss on this list and they were some of the biggest acts ever, especially compared to the ramones and black sabbath
Queen only started getting semi popular in 1975 and still weren’t the biggest band in the word they did more in the 80s than they ever did in the 60s. And to say they should be higher than pink floyd or led zeppelin is just stupid
70s is by far my favorite decade music wise!
Queen should be #2 but that's just my opinion, rest of the list is perfect
Queen should be 1.
Queen are Zeppelin Wannabes. Led Zeppelin had more musical talent in their little finger than Queen. By far the most overrated band of all time.
Fatt Philosopher that is so bull shit you’re so fucking hilarious😂 I didn’t see zeppelin doing disco or opera or the same sort of rock that queen did. I could see your argument for the first few queen albums but after ‘74 queen and zeppelins music were completely different. And Freddie is without a doubt better at singing and Brian beats page any day on vibratos on the guitar. Otherwise page is probably better. Also Freddie played piano very well and I didn’t see plant doing anything besides for a tambourine. Maybe I’m wrong. Anyways please don’t bull shit somebody this bad ever again. And I have no hatred for zeppelin they are my 2nd favorite band. In fact I’m learning stairway on guitar right now.
Queen wasn’t that important in the seventies
Nahhh. Pink Floyd is much better than Queen.
I should've born into the 70s or 80s. There was Rolling Stones, Queen, Black Sabbath, Guns n Roses, Nirvana, ACDC, Metallica, Led Zeppelin, Sex Pistols, Pink Floyd, Deep Purple and other timeless and awesome bands, and now what do we have? Justin Bieber, One Direction, Taylor Swift and Nicki Minaj... I wanna go back:(
Great list, but Bob Marley is a glaring miss!
60s?
XManX102
Only one of his albums was released in the 60s, so no.
Oh shit, I completely forgot about him watching this. Even though he isn't exactly "decade-defining", he's still one of the most prolific and highly regarded musicians ever.
DarKool81
ok in that case yes
He wasn't decade defining. When people think 70's they think rock and they think birth of pop, not reggae. He was a great artist but he isn't a symbol of the 70's
You got to be just talking about rock groups because on the R&B charts Disco was on top & Donna Summer is the Queen of Disco that define the 1970's!!!
Quite right. I hated disco, but there’s no doubt Donna Summer was the Queen and she was everywhere.
I vote for Donna Summer too!
Top Ten List (1970s):1. The Moody Blues.2. Harry Nilsson.3. ABBA.4. David Bowie.5. ELP.6. Joe Cocker.7. Steely Dan.8. Merle Haggard.9. T-Rex.10. Uriah Heap.Honorable Mention: The Bee Gees, Elton John, Billy Joel, Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris, Charlie Daniels, Iggy pop, Black Sabbath, Deep purple, Electric Light Orchestra, The Sex Pistols, The Village People, Three Dog Night, Queen, Bad Company, Pink Floyd, Parliament, Led Zeppelin.
Worst List ever. its not about what you think is best its about decade defining acts
No David Bowie?
And no Stones!!
@@kazabushy have you seen the 60s you can't put at artists 2 times in two videos of the decades then that wouldn't be fair right
@@Miist3rDuce1 David Bowie didn't define the 60s and the Stones didn't define the 60s. They truly defined their sound post 60s and were actually defining with their new sound and look more so in the 70s!
Led zeppelin!!!!
This is without a shred of doubt the hardest Top 10 of the "Decade Defining Musical Acts" WatchMojo series to come up with. So many great, influential artists in the 70's, it's insane.
Every list of this series should have been a top 20.
And then top 20 50 decade defining musical acts of all time.
Queen has to be number 1, this is ridiculous they are undoubtedly the best of the 70's
No David Bowie or Bob Marley? Really? I agree with the top 3 but you guys missed some vital ones. And the Eagles are a little too high. I mean David and Bob weren't even in the Honorable mentions... And Stevie Wonder certainly deserved a spot on the list. At least the Bee Gees and ABBA made it. People really seem to forget that Disco was pretty Damn huge in the seventies.
Sasori2105
It took a large chunk of the 70s. Doesn’t mean we don’t love are rock as well as Disco. And believe, I love ABBA so obviously I’d be biased towards Disco and a little rock
pink floyd's animals, wish you were here/ David Bowie, Judas priest released 4 albums, sex pistols, Doors , Boston, Lynard Skynard, The who, Yes, Camel, Nash crosby stills and Young, Neil young, The moody blues, ELO, Beuce springsteen, Emerson Lake and Palmer, Bob Marley, Cream, Dire straits, Jethro Tull, Alan Parson's project...AOhh come on 70s is just awesome!
I may have missed a few.
not even an honorable mention to bowie on this one... i realy hope to see him at least at top 5 tomorrow, watchmojo!
