Great review of this plane. I have the 912IS and just love it. This 915 is amazing. How's the Sling coming along? Can't wait to see the finished project.
Mike, your channel continues to grow and I celebrate your success. Basically anyone who wishes for a Bristellb but is more of a DIY builder, then the choice is obvious as the Sling TSI is all that for a fraction of the cost and can be modified/personalised where as a certified aircraft cannot. Bravo on your success, family and for documenting your personal build on youTube as your journey has and continues to inspire so many.
on paper at least the VL3 is substantially faster and cheaper. Of course VL3 cheats a little with retractable gear. Not sure how a USA version would compare, still cheaper though.
Dan Frederiksen Check out the Jean Marie Guisset on Facebook. 180 knots true at 12,000ft with the 915 iS in the VL3. The Bristell retractable gear 915 iS will do about 170 knots true at the same altitude.
The LSA ASTM speed limit for anLSA is 120 KIAS. The Bristell LSA 915iS Turbo with ground adjustable prop will indicate 118 KIAS AT 12,500 FEET. It has a True Airspeed of 147 KIAS which is 170 MPH. That is fixed gear and ground adjustable prop...meets LSA ASTM standards.
I buddy hope you and family are well. What a plane philip is interested in this one it looks awesome. The view and the power sounds amazing.nice to see you take care and good luck for the future phil.
I got a report of a very recent incident with the B23. The auto-pilot took control despite it was meant to be off. The only way the pilot/cfi was able to regain control was with the circuit breaker.
I flew a couple of times now in a Sportcruiser (in the Netherlands, OE-CRU). You also compared de PS 28 with the bristell. You mention a great visiblity in de bristell. I noticed that I am sitting very low in de cruiser, and the visibility over the cowling could be better. Is the visibility in de bristell that much greater than in de sportcruiser? I am about 180 cm, 6 feet tall.
I know that this plane and the TSI are apples to oranges, but I'd still love to see a comparison vid since they're in the same price range (everything from number of seats to gear, missions, speeds, loads, fuel economy to instance, maintenance costs and operation costs). Also this compared with the VL3.
this brings me to the question, what is the fastest LSA? whatever it is would have a turbo engine. an LSA only has to be limited to 138 mph at sea level right? you can go much fast at 10K without breaking any rules right?
Well done review. The Vne of 157 is the best I have seen in an LSA other than the new 2020 Sting S4. The price seems insane to me, but I suppose they know their customers, kind of like Cirrus charging 900,000 but still having a backlog of SR22 orders.
I'm am avionics tech of 23 years and having worked on the Cirrus SR-series for the last 16 years, and I can tell you people who buy a brand new Cirrus are quite wealthy and don't balk much at maintenance and options. It still blows my mind, but they're good aircraft and they have pretty good speed for a fixed gear aircraft and respectable useful load.
We teach our customers to face the plane into the wind prior to pre-flight and again when stopping on the ramp. It can handle a 30 knot wind when faced into the wind. Us retired guys do not fly when the winds are 30 knots, but we do fly on 100 degree days where having the canopy open results in a very comfortable experience while taxiing.
It's a beautiful plane. Nice job.. back issues I have had them too... I had terrible back issues because of sitting in over road charter buses and moving luggage.. Get magnesium citrate, (initially you will have diarrhea ) and MSM... It took awhile but my pains went away..
It's a gorgeous looking aircraft, but you're comparing apples and watermelons. Completely different category and mission and reflected in the price difference.
Kevin The dial is what is controlling the pitch of the propeller which changes engine RPM. This particular aircraft is a SLSA and is not allowed to have a propeller that can change its pitch on the fly thus no dial is present on this one. Only throttle is needed on this one to control the engine manifold and RPM. Similar to being stuck in 3rd gear for takeoff and cruise.
There is an Air Master prop with Sensenich blades that has that switch. We are looking into that for the future. Right now that prop is not approved on an LSA. Some owners make the plane an ELSA and add items that could be questioned.
Mike - Thanks for covering this plane! I am currently looking at a Bristell with 915is as my next aircraft. It's pricey to be sure, but that's a relative thing to ones income. It does make me think if I'm spending this much, should I just go to a Tecnam P2010 and pick up the 2 back seats for 100k? I enjoy your channel, keep up the excellent work!

Have you considered doing a video about the Graflight V8 Diesel engine. Interesting company out of Wisconsin that developed a Diesel V-8 from a clean sheet design. nothing repurposed like the many VW and Mercedes-Refits.
As a flight instructor, I have never understood why a plane such as this, with significantly more advanced capabilities and avionics, is not rated to fly in IMC when the C172 that we train out of is borderline falling apart at the seams with outdated avionics and is rated to fly in the clouds. I wish we could eventually upgrade to a platform such as this or similar one day.
The Bristell can fly IFR in IMC when equipped with a certified Avionics such as a GNX375 or GTN650 and the pilot is IFR rated. The plane needs to be re-registered as an ELSA which costs $1500. As an ELSA the owner can do his own maintenance.
Bodyframe.... its fuselage.. terminology please. Even with the normally aspirated Rotax and 914 too, there no need for the pilot to calculate anything for the engine. Fadec means that the computer regulates the engine parameters, injection timing and such based on several sensors.
Correcting someone for proper phraseology/terminology is like calling in an airstrike on your own position. At the same time, go before an Examiner for an oral exam and see if you pass calling the fuselage of an airplane a "body frame ".
Mike. Lovely plane. Lovely video as always. It must be remembered however the Bristell LSA can get into a fixed unrecoverable flat spin as happened in Ireland last June. Result was unfortunately 2 fatalities.
Good narrative but rotax is still absurdly complex and vulnerable to coolant leaks/failure. Bristell should listen to Farry S. and have a Jabiru 3300 option.. Less expensive to buy plus half the scheduled maintenance and 1/4 the time required to properly, legally preflight.
@@georges. Maybe not in US. But most civil aviation authorities have differing definitions of what an LSA or a UL is. And although it is UL by weight the VL3 may not be considered Ul in a lot of countries because of the speed.
FYI this Bristell with the 915iS Turbo will do 148 kt/170 MPH True at 12,500 feet. (Of course you need a medical to fly at 12,500').

Bristell LSA 915iS Turbo. We are thinking about calling it the Bristell 915 Spitfire. What do you think?
Another great video full with passion, but I know due to Corona it’s difficult to get a haircut but You really need one 🙏😀
Bodyframe.... its fuselage.. terminology please.
Even with the normally aspirated Rotax and 914 too, there no need for the pilot to calculate anything for the engine. Fadec means that the computer regulates the engine parameters, injection timing and such based on several sensors.
@flexairz "...Even with the normally aspirated Rotax and 914[sic] too...."
Bodyframe… its fuselage.. terminology please [sic].
Correcting someone for proper phraseology/terminology is like calling in an airstrike on your own position. At the same time, go before an Examiner for an oral exam and see if you pass calling the fuselage of an airplane a "body frame ".
The Bristell 915 has considerable more performance than our 914.
does it have autopilot also ? looks really nimble..
Garmin g3x touch with two axis auto pilot
Has autopilot and WAAS ILS GPzs
yes with altitude hold, rate of climb, and GPS steering. It also has vertical guidance.
Mike. Lovely plane. Lovely video as always. It must be remembered however the Bristell LSA can get into a fixed unrecoverable flat spin as happened in Ireland last June. Result was unfortunately 2 fatalities.
The Bristell has a placard that spins are prohibited
If you do not stall you will not spin Go to www.sportflyingusa.com and read under training how to avoid stalls
The Bristell has been approved for use in our FAA part 141 school, Mid Island Flying School in Shirley NY
We have 3 Bristell’s in our Sebring Flight Academy without a single incident or accident
Has killed in Australia too, thanks to poor spin recovery. Dangerous characteristics.
Starting a few new businesses to hustle for this.
Then move to an air park in Florida for retirement.
A beauty for 270k
Just a few things;
1. Not an RG
2. Not pressurised
3. No air conditioning
VL3 EVO with 915 will do around 200KTAS. 0.o
Not LSA. What' wrong with you people???
You are comparing our S-LSA to a plane that is not an LSA and does not have to follow ASTM LSA restrictions.
@@georges. Maybe not in US. But most civil aviation authorities have differing definitions of what an LSA or a UL is. And although it is UL by weight the VL3 may not be considered Ul in a lot of countries because of the speed.
Will it be avaliable with a EU600kg certification?
The Risen has the same engine yet can do 200mph/185mph cruise.
And wonder how much it cost lol
Hey Mike how much did it cost you to replace the soft top on your 500 SL?
What do you pay for health insurance? Does this look like a chat room?
