I ordered one of these after a test flying with Doma in Florida more than 2 years ago. Still waiting for them to deliver. I sure hope the company becomes successful and fulfill my order soon. The plane flew beautifully.
The 120 kt limit is only at sea level. For example, the 915iS BRS Bristell SLSA flying at ~10k feet will have a true airspeed of 170 miles per hour or 147 knots - The Bristell has a 157 knots Vne. The latest gen of LSA are not your grand pa’s dumpster truck 60s or 70s Cessna with the cigarette ash trays - in terms of aerodynamics, material composition, avionics and engines they are very modern plus Low op costs. Negatives include IFR but prohibited flight into IMC, purchase cost, home built quality can be iffy, useful weight with ~4 hrs fuel is ~500 pd, only 2 seats max, slow cross country, and x wind limits handling (you actually have to have pilot flying skills to land once you get to 15+ knots x wind). Lots of these limits will likely change but that will result in cost increases (e.g., retract constant sp prop Shark and other euro light sports are awesome, but more toward 300k than 200k).
I wonder what the real structural Vne (not published) would be? Also did you hear it was actually designed for 1800#’s not 1320!! If it is still aerobatic at that mass it would be a great platform for more hp and MOSAIC
@@flexairz Rarely would I agree with that statement but I gotta say that super light, slippy plane with 141 take off HP is pretty damn adequate... I mean the whole point for it is to be simple and easy to fly. Power can be safer in some instances but there is a reason you are required a high performance clearance by an CFI before taking out something with more than 200hp.
I ordered this aircraft from manufacturer directly. They never delivered and I cancelled the order after 8 months of pointless delays, The CEO simply stopped responding to my mails and ignores paying me back.
That is beyond terrible if true. This is always a bad sign. It is extremely unprofessional. I wouldn't consider doing business with this company UNLESS, This situation is completely addressed in detail.
Unfortunately Magnus still hasn’t paid me back. I filed for legal resolution earlier this year and am currently awaiting a court order to enforce the payment.
That plane is freaking BEAUTIFUL!!!!❤ If I had a plane this is the paint job I would put on it. The landing gear stays down so you don't got to worry about the landing gear not coming down. Plus if the engine fails you can glide it to the ground. I would only want to fly above land that I could land on in case of engine failure. I plan on dying of natural causes hopefully anyway. Many people have died in plane crashes that would be a crappy way to die.
My sentiments exactly ! Im not a flyer but I am bewildered by these small planes crashing because the motor conks out ! Not being able to GLIDE is obviously NUTS ! And why is NO VIBRATION so unique ? Now that I hear it is possible I'd settle for nothing less ! How is that trick done ?? Same with view , brake flaps - all that..
With the speed weight and capacity of ultralight LSA limits being doubled, and the new toroidal propellers coming out, looking forward to seeing what can be done with these crafts.
Beautiful idea. My aviation life is about towing gliders. When descending, I would always happily do acrobatics 20 times a day. But there is a tug device missing
Florida to Seattle in 5 days? That’s a two maybe a 3 day flight.. you get stuck for weather? Beautiful looking planes! That VL3 is even more awesome looking!
@@walterrawdanik8077 What Lancair bad habits? There are many models of Lancair. Most of them with cruising speeds over 100 knots faster than this little toy.
Base model $139,000…. The prototype killed its 2 pilots in Hungary 2018… investigators said was pilot error. High bank wing angel that was low to the ground…. Originally was powered by Seimens electric main. 3 cylinder smart car diesel for recharge during cruising…. Seems like a legit plane with some time now to see how it holds up. Lil pricey for me…. Rather have a house myself
they need to get rid of the speed limit, and the landing gear restriction. just keep the weight limit. its called "LIGHT sport" not "slow sport" I want to have a light sport that can do 400 mph. that would be amazing
I like that idea. I also would say the light sport regulations have driven a lot of innovation. It’s like, “make the best airplane you can which falls within these restrictions”. A lot of interesting designs have come from the rules. I’m excited to see what comes from the mosaic rules
Why is it limited to 140mph and 13,000? What’s the real structural Vne (not published)? Also did you hear him say it was actually designed for 1800#’s not 1320!! If it is still aerobatic at that mass it would be a great platform for more hp and MOSAIC
Any aircraft rated for +6g/-3g at 1320 will undoubtedly be able to sustain lower G at a higher gross weight. There is zero chance it is still aerobatic load rated at that weight.
Is the speed governed to comply with LSA? I would expect a turbo engine to go much faster like 160 kits TAS at 10000 ft. The 120 kt limit for LSA applies only at sea level.
Looks fun, but I'll never give up my Flight Design CTLSi and BRS. The fusion has 40% less fuel capacity, 20% lower fuel economy and only 40 to 50% of the CTLSi's range. Plus you have to carry about a quart of sunscreen on every flight because that canopy is a big magnifying glass. Low wings are OK but although there are great view of the clouds, the Earth, its beauty and variety is what really makes the high wings stand apart for the passenger.
You can't get sunburned through the canopy... The UV rays are filtered out. I have a 600+ mile range on my Bristell. I carry 32 gallons. And I do very close to the same speeds as this plane, with better fuel economy. And with an 11 to 1 glide ratio, I opted out of the very heavy BRS system. 30-40lbs of something I will most likely never need to use. Hoping the new MOSAIC rules come out soon. Weight and speed restrictions will be lifted and we can fly at night, with our constant speed props... 😁
Mosaic is just a round about means to allow under qualified partially trained diabetic pilots to operate aircraft in weather they have no business being in.
This does not seem to be a LSA. Too fast. How can the FAA let this slide? The whole point of LSA is the plane is slow and not high performance. Seems like they wanted the benefits of LSA, but refused to comply with the rules. I'd just make it regular category and put a good engine in it.
Hello... Many LSAs fall into this questionable area. They are certified to ASTM standards. Therefore the FAA tends to look the other way for some items. Carbon Cub sells the same 1800lb gross weight airplane with the same 180+ horsepower lycoming as an LSA. But you are limited to a pilot woth maybe 15-20 gallons onboard. And you have a paper tag maximum continuous engine ratings at anything above like 60% power. To artificially limit maximum speed. Literally everyone buying that plane is using it as a Super Cub where the FAA wont bother them...
The gross takeoff weight stated in the video excludes this model from the LSA category which states that 1320 is the max takeoff weight. If the MOSAIC rules go into effect that would change but it has not gone into effect. I may never be approved. Until then, this video jumps the gun. Further 500 lb. useful payload is a pretty skimpy. 2 two hundred lb. passengers leaves only 100 lbs. for fuel and baggage.
This engine is not ideal for true aerobatics. It will be fine if you transition through inverted flight but you spend any time inverted, like in formation inverted, its not built for that. There is more to an inverted flying engine than just a dry sump. That turbo needs a sump of its own, oil pickups in the head etc....
I knew you would say nothing about cost. You never ever ever ever talk about how much these planes cost. There's a reason I don't see any... anywhere... Shame on you for so purposely avoiding talking about cost.
