So I’m still awaiting the CLE 53 😂. Mixed feelings on this engine. I don’t think they sound as deep throated and I’m guessing there is a lot more noise being piped through the speakers? Really like the design of the exterior and the interior. However my biggest pet hate is the shiny black piano black, used on the centre console on a premium vehicle. Surely an extension of the carbon fibre effect would have been a better solution and look less scratched.

@@npolearyAMG GLA45 ownership for coming up to five years - faultless. Thank you Peter Schindler (that’s the builder’s name!) for the perfect engine.
The blunt truth is in real world usage you might hit the redline in one gear maybe once a month or so. I’ve never tracked the car, but I have made pace across country and it needs nowhere near redline to be well beyond my abilities or my lack of enthusiasm for being locked up for speeding.
So the lack of stress is inherent in the planned usage. Remember that £130k will be bought by a wealthy individual (most likely a parent) whose life will be more about show than go. That GLC can do it all.
Even if your track dayed it once a month then with regular servicing it’s going to reward you with reassuringly expensive tyre changes and possible brake pad changes. Other than that it will pootle on into obscurity until it gets to 10 years old where it will be bought and ragged by the now elderly Max Power masses…..

@@npoleary Thanks Nick ;) this is great info. really wish you could find the chance to make the comparison review, i believe it would be really helpful and interesting. in the California, my glc300 window sticker price with options already $63000, and the MB us just start delivering the glc43, I checked the inventory, seems adding another $6000, i could have a 43 with almost similar options add on. but i could have more than 100hp power and all real AMG design and engineer, i think the 2.0 engine is m139 which is different from the 300. and also i could have the rear wheel steering on the 43 which 300 does not offer at all. so that is why i really wish to see how much difference the driving dynamic and feeling difference between the 300 VS 43 VS 63. it is hard for me to ask the dealer to test driving and feeling the 43 for myself, they wish to keep the car with no milage put on ;) i feel it would be a very interesting video topic to see the 43 value, only seeing the number on paper, i feel the 43 would be a very nice deal for a real AMG, of course, people will say, 43 never could call as real AMG, but compare my current 300 with amg style package, i would say it is a real daily drive AMG. the weight is much lighter than the 63 without the heavy battery, but similar m139 motor under the hood. that is all my guessing, really wish to see some review could tell some actual feeling when driving them side by side.

The real question is "Is it a 63S." Performance-wise, yes, it is. Sound-wise, no it's not. Now, those who would argue that it's not a 63S need to realize that the latest 63S models were 4.0L engines, so if displacement makes the model, than the answer would be no for all those 63S models.
While I will absolutely miss the sound of the V8s, I'm not a kid, so it's more about the performance. And this one has it!

Oh please, will you idiots stop cheerleading for this bs. It's a "soul-less" four-banger that has has quite literally destroyed what it means to have an AMG. No wonder Mercedes is bringing back the V8 in the CLE 63. They know how much damage they have done to their own brand. That so-called C63 recorded almost zero sales in its first year in Germany. That tells you everything you need to know about stuffing that four-banger in a car with the C63 moniker. It doesn't matter how many simps and cheerleaders are out there simping for this bullshit.

Hi Nick. Having just bought my first Mercedes. (C300 estate Premium plus AMG line). I’ve found your videos extremely helpful. I was wondering if you could do a video covering the “Covid cars”. These are a batch of cars that apparently left the factory with various specification anomalies due to the global chip shortage. I’m starting to think my car may be affected.

    • @npoleary
      @npoleary  4 месяца назад

Ah very nice! Haha “Covid cars” I’ve not heard that term before although I understand what you mean.
Sadly it’s not just cars that were affected it was virtually everything on the planet. The reason why cars had a larger impact is because modern cars have a lot of semiconductors (a modern car typically has over 3k of these and microcontrollers. I believe they’re referred to as a 200mm wafer or something similar).
Basically TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company) lost a lot of orders during the pandemic for car semiconductors so they slowed down production. Where as home computing was on the rise with social distancing and working from home. And then suddenly as auto makers ramped up their sales, they put in an order for semiconductors but it takes months to ramp back up and they couldn’t keep up with demand.
To get cars out of the door, car manufacturers had to adjust their specification to still “sell a car” but without affecting the consumer in any “major” way. In the UK, Audi for example didn’t have sunroofs for a while, Mercedes dropped Augmented Reality and the electronic tailgate for some models and I’m sure there were other elements too such as wireless charging for phones.
Sadly I don’t know the ins and outs of it as I think it probably varied round the world but the best thing to do is chat to someone who works at Mercedes and they’ll be able to advise from their experience what cars may have been affected. They can bring up the specification of cars and handily if it helps I do have archived brochures of Mercedes models from around the time so if you need it, reply below and I’ll send you the link 😎

I believe the "63" is well overstated. Isn't the engine the same as in the A45? I guess MB are using the electric engine to boost it to 63 standards but if the battery isn't charged then you have a "45"
Just my thoughts but I think the current petrol MB SUVs look fairly ugly and the panel gaps are too large for the asking price.

It’s a tricky thing that manufacturers need to do, they are required to sell a certain percentage of electric cars each year and also lower the cars with the highest engine displacements. So naturally with rules and regulations, engines will get smaller and smaller over time and hybridised and eventually electric.
I was very lucky to be on a round table chat with someone high up from AMG two days ago. They are working hard to prioritise AMG & emotion and feeling over anything else.
So the only thing I can suggest, yes I try and capture what it’s like on here with video and audio with mics placed in places to capture the sound but it may not translate to what it would be like completely. Try it out and see how you get on 😎
