  • This week’s episode with Junelle Bromfield was filmed in Orlando. We visited Junelle because she was afraid to come home. She shared that life after the Olympics has been good, but fear has kept her away, including receiving death threats. Junelle feels people don’t fully understand the challenges she’s faced in recent months. Therapy has been her foundation during this time, and she started it thanks to her boyfriend, Noah Lyles. Driven by a fear of returning to poverty, she was determined to change her life. At just 8 years old, she decided she would become an Olympian. #SIMSoulSessions

Everyone does pillow talk, Junelle is not the first and she won’t be the last. Noel just talk it out. If Junelle feels unsafe, that’s how she feels. This is Jamaica people are getting killed for preaching on a bus. So who are we to tell Junelle not to feel threatened? I wouldn’t feel safe either.

When you live outside of JA for a while, it gives you perspective. While the world on a whole is far from perfect, we have become accustomed to some things in JA, which far from the norm in most parts of the world, and are simply not acceptable.
Death threats should ALWAYS be taken seriously in my view. One cannot blame her for being cautious about returning home.
...and to think that this is over something as benign as it was. We need to stop and THINK and GROW UP, instead of acting on pure instinct-driven emotion.

I hope those persons who thought she was exaggerating will now see it differently especially after what happened to the preacher on the bus

Very touchy interview. Inspiring and also sad. How can Jamaicans be so heartless towards your own people. How can they threaten her like that. Be strong Junelle❤. Thanks for the interview Simone.

@lornajohnson you talk about shame on Jamaica treating one of us 😮please STOP GENERALIZING. Don't forget Lyles had the same time in the 100 as OUR athlete THOMPSON who she CLAIMED is her FRIEND😮 yet she was over the USA side 😮not in her JAMAICA camp CELEBRATING. I'm not saying the support shouldn't be there but she was on the JAMAICA TEAM. GOSH where was the LOYALTY to her team you ready to CHASTIZE the WHOLE JAMAICA😮 REALLY NOW. WAKE UP.

Did you expect anything better. My upbringing in Jamaica was one of the worst time of my life, the negatives about my complexion, my hair, etc. even my own mother showed her preference for my lighter complected siblings. It took white people to make me take a second look at myself to see not just the beauty within but on the outside as well. To go from being discriminated because of my skin color in my country of birth to being mistaken for Beverly Johnson and complimented daily on my beauty by people who looked nothing like me , Strange that in Europe women who look like Janelle is dominating the runways of Paris, Milan and London making millions that is where she is headed. She doesn’t need to ever go back to Jamaica the world is big, she can eat oxtail, tripe and beans and patty any weh. Oonu too wicked.
