    paypal.me/TreeBoi4LifeThis is an updated version of a few of my previous videos dealing with wearing and using tree spikes/spurs. Using tree spikes are dangerous and you can die or get seriously hurt if you wear or use them improperly so be forewarned that you need training on the ground before you attempt an ascent with them on. My video shows how you can successfully meet that challenge but as a disclaimer use these methods at your own risk. Other than that be safe and have fun climbing those trees. As always, Thanks for watching!

    I'm a new climber so I have been all over youtube watching videos and I got to say u have a great way of breaking it down and making it easier to understand what u r saying. If not for trees you would probably be a great educator. After so much sweat, blood and hard work proving myself on the ground and showing how much I want it and how passionate I am about it my boss finally loaned me some of his old gear to practice with. I'll am spiking trees daily and working towards my goal of making a career out of climbing trees. Boss is so please that he is going to put me on his insurance and let me start climbing on the job. Anyways just thought I would share that. Thankyou so much for your awesome videos. Keep em coming because I never want to stop learning and I want to continue to get better

      I thought you were not supposed to use gaffs on a trim job, only take downs. I thought gaffs damage the tree and make it more susceptible to infection by microbes and attack by insects. Maybe palms are different, though, I don't know. Palms can also be very dangerous, as climbers often get killed by flopping palm fronds.

    Watching this because I applied to work with this guy doing tree climbing. His add said I have to know how to use spikes. Other than that he has all tools. I just gotta meet him at the shop in morning. I mean I have common sense. So I know I will be alright. But I really appreciate this video man. Cuz winging it would have not gone so well obviously, and you gave some really good tips. And you are easy to listen to while you explain thing. I am experienced using chainsaw and basically any hand tool. I can build cabinets too. But I never used spikes and just figured I would search and see. Thanks again for putting this video out here for people to gain from. I hope all is well. And I hope ou as well as your family stay safe and healthy in these crazy times. Much love and prayers from Florida bud!☮️☮️☮️peace.

    • @TreeBoi4Life
      @TreeBoi4Life  4 года назад

      My friend I am glad you found the video useful but I have to make one thing clear though and it is this that most guys who need a tree climber those trees are normally tough trees and true it’s good to have common sense but if you have no prior “tree climbing sense” so to speak then you are putting yourself in grave danger because the trees he will expect you to climb will be over a house or power line or a palm tree that hasn’t been trimmed in 30 years which could collapse on climbers or??? Now I can’t tell you what to do but I said all that to say this and it is to be safe because it requires no less than 20hrs of practicing spiking and spiking situations and not too far off the ground at first and then the type cuts necessary for the the certain circumstances you may find yourself in the canopy and lastly using another person’s used gear is a NoNo because you literally have your life hanging by a rope or lanyard that you had no clue of it’s prior use and if you are not use to them or have learned to trust them then you will not succeed and at the least get your own gear. Using someone else’s spikes with bad or old padding will ruin your legs as well as make your climbing experience extremely 😖 painful 😣. I’m speaking from experience and all some folks care about is money and not the man so the first rule as a climber is you have to value yourself and not let another devalue you or what you are doing especially due to your lack of experience. I know times are hard bro and tree climbing is a very lucrative job but again because the trees that pay are the biggest and baddest and scary and not too many people in their right state of mind are willing to tackle them. So make sure you have someone local to train you and help you learn and I hope this guy tomorrow at least knows how to climb himself so you won’t be walking into a death trap and lastly if the tree is dead or dying or heavily decayed fall back or walk away it’s not worth getting hurt or killed for $200moreorless. Be safe out there and just be careful.

    Real good tutorial on climbing. Keeping practice a couple feet off the ground to start off really helps you get the hang of spiking and finding your center. "You don't have to be fast, just safe" That's the most important thing to remember when doing this.

    EXCELLENT JOB BROTHER. I LIKE HOW YOU ENCOURAGED CLIMBERS TO GET FAMILIAR WITH SPIKES LOW TO THE GROUND AND PLAY AROUND WITH DIFFERENT SCENARIOS. SOMETIMES WE GET SO CAUGHT UP IN GETTING THE TREE DOWN THAT WE DON'T EASE OUR SELF INTO THE WHOLE EXPERIENCE. WELL DONE.

  • @fresnoflats
    @fresnoflats 7 лет назад +2

    Very nice instructional video. Simple, quick, relaxed. You provide great ideas on how to safely practice low to the ground and how to get used to the gaffs, then how to get used to the lanyard. I have been climbing off and on for 40 years; mostly rock climbing, but lots of trees as well. Your suggestions make perfect sense to me. I just recently bought some gaffs and was looking for practice ideas. Last time I used any was 25 years ago to put up a ropes course in some giant coastal redwoods. The bark was very thick, so we could use gaffs on them without damaging the trees. I agree with another commentator, that you really need to goof around in a safe location to understand the limitations of a technique. You demonstrate how it is good to practice with gaffs low to the ground to feel when they grab and when they skitter out. Thanks for the video.

    Good info. I'm an industrial automation instrumentation guy who also deals with high amperage circuits as well. With 15 years experience, we face our own challenges and dangers ( like being electrocuted by 1000 amps) I bring this up because I feel as though many jobs are dangerous especially if you have a false sense of safety. I am currently finding my self in a position where I need to cut down a lot of trees and I cant afford to pay some one. I much rather s poo end 60 hours in my free time and watch traing videos ( at x2 speed its 30 hours :p) I've been CV climbing trees since I was 12. In the military I did rock climbing and repelling and learned lots of knots. But I feel so much more confident now after having watched countless veterans share their knowledge. Ty to all you who have gone out of your way to teach tricks of the trades. Their are several I could mention ( Billy ray is great! ) lol and m as my more. Q thing I e noticed is many of you have a different technique and style. I've actually watched the entire 30 part safety series presented by some logging corporation. Watch out for that barber chair folks :(. It is a dangerous job but as I said I know many in my profession that are no longer with us. Education is key!

    Thank you! Your video is so useful. I think I will use an additional choke line. I will be slower but if the spurs slipped and the flip line won't hold, the choke line will hang me. I am having 4 trees to cut and one is close to the house so I need to climb up and trim it down and rope and pull it.

    Good video ! I've been felling pine trees for years. But I'm faced with a few that I need to climb up to sling for winching. I only need to get up there about 40ft. Thanks for the instructions. Shopping Bailey's for equipment today.

    Hey buddy .
    Thanks for the quick respond,even though I don't expect you to respond to every comment viewers make.A negative person is always negative no matter what and race and color doesn't make any person better but his actions talks for him .Just do what you get to do to make a little good positive things in your life and others.That's what matters most.
    Thanks again.God bless.

    If you're spiking up a little tree it's a good idea to wrap your lanyard around the tree twice so that you don't slip and fall all the way down.
    If your lanyard has a steel core you can wrap it twice around and it is still easy to slide it up and down the tree. Not as easy to wrap it twice with a ropeonly lanyard.
