It is straight up BS when a gameshow tries to deny a prize just because the contestant is good. Things like coughing for answers is absolutely cheating and should be denied but things like remembering item prices and learning a pattern is just playing the game well.
I have to say -ahem - you're right
I like this
Hello anti gacha police here just checking to see if it's all ok
I agree and they are a business so of course they want to profit.
Those people actually got their prizes didn’t they?
Not exactly a scandal, but serial killer Rodney Alcala appeared on The Dating Game in 1978. He died in prison only two months ago. (There is an Infographics Show video on him as well)
Yeah, I was surprised that they didn’t mention this one.
Me too but glad they didn’t.. that’s been talked to death already.. literally lol
Yep, luckily the girl got creeped out at the last second and decided his vibes were off, so she didn't go to the date/getaway or whatever it was. She may have both literally and metaphorically dodged a bullet there. Idc what anyone says, vibes based decisions are absolutely valid. But, I digress.
Remember when the Game Show Network had more than just Family Feud playing on an endless loop? God, that show gets old fast.
And the contestants are nut jobs- all of them acting like fools for a chance at 2 grand that will go really fast.
@@xxwhispersxx2856 lol that’s true
One of my favourites was Chain Reaction
Idk how many times I can handle Steve Harvey’s reactions to contestant answers
Anyone remember Lingo?
Worth pointing out that Millionaire's top prize did not normally grow for every episode, and the reason Ed's winnings were so much higher was because the show had not had a top prize winner for several months and instituted a jackpot that grew by $10,000 for each episode there was not a top prize winner.
And if won the million, after taxes....400k lol. Then when you file taxes for the previous year, you pay large percentage of taxes again on the 400k and after just 1 year, the 1 million really was just 245k lol
That “Seven swans a-swimmin’” one was just ridiculous. Wow!
Yep. If people weren't uptight in regards to the language, the woman would've gotten her money.
I totally agree with the ruling of the show. People prior had made tiny speaking errors, pronunciation, and accent based flubs and the show denied them. This was just one that was so conspicuous due to the amount of money, and the point in the game when it happened. Since the game is based on accumulation of letters to spell and say a word or phrase, leaving one out is not playing correctly. Also, with all the naysayers pointing out that it was her "Southern Accent" just proves the show's point. Standard American English please.
For some reason it reminds me of the "popsicle bike" incident
@@NimrodClover They should ask her so spell the last word. This is about finding the winning frase not a how to pronounce it right and she probably meant it right. By spelling it we can be sure.
yeah If she was black riots would have started
Michael Larson won by figuring out the patterns on the game board. He did that by recording episodes of the show and used his VCR remote to freeze the video. If you look closely at the lighted square which goes around the board, there were two places where Whammies never appeared. There were five different patterns and the lighted square was not random at all. He figured that out and won big. However, he lost all that money, and he passed away from throat cancer.
Oh no. How did he lose that money? R.I.P to him.
@@AwkwardBlackGal613 Guy heard on the radio about some sort of challenge to get a cash prize, the radio would say a specific number and if somebody matched that number to a serial number on a 1 dollar bill they'd get the cash prize, Larson withdrew a total of 50 Grand (in 1 dollar bills) from multiple different banks, and... none of them matched.
He was then robbed... all 50 Grand gone, robbers probably surprised they were all in 1 dollar bills.
Not the end, though, after all that, he started a lottery scam, scamming 4 million dollars outta investors, and with the FBI and IRS on him, he went on the run.
And soon after he ended up passing away from throat cancer.
@@thatdamnFERRARIguy That was surprisingly dark... I thought he just spent it all without a care (which I guess he technically did).
I mean, if he smart enough to be able to outwit them. I guess he deserves the money. At least, he kinda better than politician who get money but do nothing.
He did no wrong on what he did, it wasn’t in the rules and would had gone forever if he didn’t get tired. It’s a very sad/dark ending how he lost all his money trying to find two same $1 bills.
“Watching the price is right sick from school 😂” yup exactly
Especially in the days of Bob Barker.
The _Press Your Luck_ one was not cheating. There is no more a rule against memorizing the board than what the MIT kids did in Vegas.
I agree and the game shows are just mad that people won too much of their money.
The costliest mistake by a game show production crew happened on The Price Is Right. The Plinko mini game was accidentally rigged so the puck was guaranteed to land in the $10,000 slot. A contestant won it three times before the error was discovered and he got to keep his prize
Tbf they can’t exactly take it back rightfully if it’s their fault in the first place. For once people made the smart decision
Watching “The Price Is Right” home sick from school. Too relatable 😂
Funny they mentioned that, I'm home sick from school today.
Hey Infographic Show!
at the point "secure the millions" where the money falls into the ground at the wrong answer, there was a much worse situation in the German version where 1,000,000 euros were lost because the couple did not know how many days a year has (they had not understood the question correctly). imagine that! this embarrassment!!!
A mega oof
Inforaphics: These scandals are insane
Family feud host: *Hold my card*
*if you know you know*
Imagine being a serial killer and casually walking on a TV show
RESPECT
This seems like a comedy show gag but it actually happened.
the american who wants to be a millionaire was a spinoff from the british show
It was indeed the yanks just claim everything is theirs
This annoyed me too. He should correct it!!!
When did he say the American version was the original?
He sounded like the American was the original by saying that it caused spin-offs in different countries
The difference between Charles Ingram and Michael Larson is that Michael got his $110,237 and Charles got publicly humiliated and shamed.
IKR
Well....one cheated and the other didn't. Just like that.
“Don’t hate the player hate the game”
I remembered a lie detector game show in the middle 2000s, I believe, that had actually ruined a couple's marriage and led to a divorce
@Taurus1977 that show was called The Moment Of Truth. I remember the couple that you are talking about. The wife knew the questions were terrible and yet, she answered them all with the truth, and her husband was anything but thrilled
Easy question: "Arthur, the King of England sat at the round table with 12 ....?"
A:"Knights"
B:"Wrong, it's Knights."
A: "I said that!"
B: "No, you said Nights. Sorry, for your loss."
A:"What the f ...?"
The scandal that Randy made in South Park...
I found myself thinking the same answer as Randy. Great episode.
7:38 Ted Slawson was the mastermind, not the couple who won. It was Slawson that kept a database of thousands of prices which he had committed to memory. He gave them the answer, which he calculated on the spot. The full story is available on RUclips.
Yes that's the name, I watched a documentary about the scandal, Ted told his friend to not say the exact amount because he knew something like this would happen
@@bobbyjason3295 Think you may have misunderstood. I'm saying that in this video, credit was given to the wrong individuals. The couple didn't memorize the numbers, Ted did. I have also see the full documentary and nothing was said about not saying the right price. There was confusion between Ted and the wife over the exact number Ted wanted her to relay to her husband. Noone was concerned with "what might happen." ted was a celebrity on the show long before this point and knew exactly what he was doing.
Love this channel!!!
To remember the price of all the prizes in recent episodes isn't cheating. To conspire is though.
Yeah. Having signals from the audience might be cheating.
Jeez I swear you come out with videos literally everyday and have been, for years now, I dunno how you keep coming up with such interesting topics!!?! It’s mind baffling lol and also do them so well! 🤯
ik this comment is a couple months old but This is done by a entire production team not just one person
If you are working with someone who is in the audience, then its considered cheating since the audience members are not apart of the game itself.
Why would they call being well prepared and great memories cheating!! That should be illegal and be considered a insult
To keep their money
They were cheating when he was receiving signals from the audience.
I honestly thought they'd make an episode about the coughing thing in WWTBAM. I guess this is close enough. lol.
Watched the entire documentary on that like a week ago. That was wild!!!!
1:20
The Government be like: “GIMMIE SUM A DAT!”
Day 18 of requesting infographics to cover: You Vs Terror Billy
Hello comrades love your videos keep up the good work
When I heard the name of the guy from #6, being Mr. Ketchum, the first thing that came to mind was “Huh, maybe that’s what happened to Ash’s dad in the show” (Ash Ketchum being the main character of the Pokémon tv series)
This channel is underrated this channel deserves more views!!!
Wow guys I still don't know how you are able to pull out around 1 hour of awesome animation everyday. Great work!!
yeah the dedication is amazing to see!! so glad they put the effort in.
They have a whole team of people working together not just one person.
nothing is more infuriating than when the last person guessing a dollar more than the previous guess in price is right...such a flaw in the game.
That isnt a real problem
They should just make everyone write down their guess and reveal them all the same time.
The WWTBAM blunder was legendary :D
I remember the Post-It-Note and Walkman episode. Such a heartbreaking thing to watch😪
I love the Infographics show!
7:27
I just realized this is like the precursor to people on video games calling you a cheater when your just good
Okay video! Thanks for uploading!
The wheel of fortune one is crazy. Imagine if someone said "Axe" instead of "Ask" like a lot of people from a specific culture do..
That would cause an uproar
For sure. Would make a movement or something
axe and ask are different words. should be punished. unlike bath and barth or swimming and swimmin
Axe and Ask are completely different words. Of course the person would lose, as they should.
@@richardkranium2944 LOL!!
@@valkyrie9646 they are different words. But if some has an accent and pronounces it slightly different, but everyone including an attomton can figure out what your saying it should count. Also swimming and swimmin are the same word.. the ask and axe example are not the best.
#6 The password is Fugitive.
It was after #4 that Drew Carey made sure that whoever gave Terry Kniess the exact answer never came back to "The Price Is Right" again.
Elizabeth Banks would go completely off her rocker if #3 happened again.
I watched a documentary about the price is right scandal and yes I think he was banned from the show and the prices were completely randomized afterwards
I forget his name but he been studying the show for years and found the pattern. He even warned his friend to not say the exact amount and this happened
I remember noticing a pattern on Press Your Luck's board when I would watch it when I was little. It was surprising to me it didn't happen sooner.
Policeman 1: shame we lost our trail on that con artist
Policeman 2: yeah, it was getting interesting too.
Policeman 1: wait.... doesn't that guy on the TV look familiar?
Policeman 2:....go call their station.
5:10
It wasn't cheating, cbs simply made a pattern that they thought would notice, he studied and technically there wasn't a rule of you can't memorize the patterns.
I'm talking about Michael Larson.
Great video
The music in the background is amazing.
Kids Week Jeopardy!: What is the Emanciptation Proclamation? (That's how the penalized kid spelled it.)
Oh yeah! I remember watching that episode!
Didn't the show get a little backlash from that. But then again I guess the rules state you have to spell the word correctly
The American 'Who wants to be a millionaire' was one of the spinoffs from the British show which started it.
I remember the Post-it notes question controversy. Hated that show after that.
I remember the bullseye scandal im from the uk and, used to watch bullseye every saturday evening 🤣
I remember watching a GSN special about the Press Your Luck guy.
I love game shows but this video was very interesting 🤔
I'd highly recommend watching the British Mini-Series "Quiz", which focuses on Charles Ingram and also see his side of the story as well as the courtroom case of ITV against Charles.
Brilliant show and gives you a balanced insight, proving ITV are no saints either.
what about ted brundy on the dating show in the 70's? very disappointed that was not on there!!!!
The host on CBS’ version of Press Your Luck was Peter Temarken, not Elizabeth Banks. I know, because I used to watch that show when I was a kid.
There was another one where the lady had a southern accent on The Wheel of Fortune…instead of “fingernail”, she said “fangernail” and lost.
I feel so sorry for her.
Just seems like a realllly racist situation waiting to happen. If it hasnt already
They say they can't do anything about the rules when they're the ones who made the show. Christ.
What? Americans being racist? Who would have thought?....
@@jaydiarie How is it 'racist'?
This music reminds me of the Vegas Stages from classic Sonic games. LOL
This is a amazing video
I remember watching Michael Larson's win the first time it aired ..it was so exciting.
You guys should do a follow-up video on the no whammy one, I might be mistaken but I think I've seen an article where the guy ended up losing the cash in an interesting way afterwards
if I remembered correctly, they actually did in their past videos so go check that out
There’s a whole documentary
I wish they would bring back older game shows, like Hollywood Squares or $100,000 Pyramid (or however much it would be now with inflation!)
He didn't cheat , Larson used his brain skills and knowledge the out think the games / program and found the pattern's .
I remember the video u did on Press Your Luck.
While it wasn’t how he got caught, at one point during the 70’s, the show The Dating Game had on a serial killer as the eligible bachelor. The woman who won decided against going on the date with him as he creeped her out lol.
Theses vid are so good
Me before watching this video
Hes gonna mention that one old guy who studied a certain gameshow's pattern and won a lot of money.. He has to
Being from the UK I just waited and waited for the cough to land xD
You guys should do a video on woodstock 99
What about that mathematician Stefan Mandel that won the lottery 14 times by buying every possible number combination once the lottery amount exceeded the cost of buying the tickets? He retired on his own private island, but there's laws that don't allow you to do what he did anymore, and you'd have to already be loaded to do it. Or, get benefactors to put money towards your cause with the promise of having it paid back with interest afterwards, like Stefan did.
Smart man
@@theblackryvius6613 yep, found a loophole in the lottery that no one else had ever exploited. I'm amazed that he got away with it so many times, though. Lol
There was a documentary on the who wants to be a millionaire about the coughing incident called quiz it was so good
2001 was a bad year in terms of 'Who Wants to Be A Millionaire' scandals (they made a play of the Ingram case called 'Quiz' which also got adapted into a TV miniseries with Matthew Macfayden, Michael Sheen and Helen McCrory). Also, 'The Dating Game' in the US also featured a serial killer by the name of Rodney Alcala. That subject has been made into a movie called 'Woman of the Hour'.
Another thing about that The Price is Right one is that the guy had even made his own video game about it, which had every single prize and their costs down to the CENT. I don't remember a lot about it but there's a documentary about it on Netflix I think.
Does Carrie D. Ketchum have a son named Ash?
Keep it up
Game show scandals is not the worst, a marriage with scandals as background is the real one
Oh yeah the Press your Luck scandal
I LOVED the Whammy, They were hilarious!
I remember seeing that man that cheated the big board on Press Your Luck on a documentary years ago. It's sad that he's not alive to see the revival of the 2 versions of Press Your Luck
I don’t agree that he cheated. He just figured out their gimmick and happened to win big. That should not be considered cheating.
9:14 And THERE it is...
I saw the coughing episode. I thought it sounded a bit odd LOL.
When you cheat the system more like outsmarting the producers
I would like to see fails, or rare moments on game show episode.
I love this channel
Gameshows are often rigged to prevent winning anyway, so may as well return the favour... :P
Game shows are never rigged. I work on them. It's a Federal crime to cheat. In fact, there's an independent compliance office on set to make sure everything is fair and square.
@@thejamesguide what is considered cheating though?
@@TrinhNguyen-sh4fj Collusion mostly. Anything else is pretty much not possible nowadays.
@@thejamesguide they use to be but laws were passed a while back. Fun fact sports leagues are exempt from the these rules and are free to fake or rig things as much as they want. At least as far as im aware.
@@thejamesguide A Game Show would never give one guy easy questions, so he would have a good chance at winning the Million Dollar top prize and boost the ratings? Coulda sworn the first Million Dollar winner on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? was.

When you have already watched Drew Goodens video about one of the guys
7:49 that was never proven. You should def fix that.
I seem to recall that Van Doren wisely protected himself, by MAILING A LETTER TO HIMSELF, that contained the essential information regarding the cheating. In court, Van Doren handed the letter to the Judge, who then opened it, while noting the postmark on the envelope.
Larsen did not cheat. He memorized the board and there is nothing wrong with it.
I love this dudes voice
I still find myself sometimes saying "big money big money no whammies aaaaaaaaaaaaand stop!"
This already has 1k views and it's only been 3 minutes. That's not even half as long as the video.
There is a video out there that goes into the price is right ordeal. That couple just happened to be sitting next to the right guy in the audience, the one that knew all the prices.
Well, I searched for most of these game show clips on RUclips, wbu guys?
As someone who has always abbreviated ing to in' I am thoroughly salty about the wheel of fortune one.
If saw was a gameshow it would be my favourite gameshow 😈
