His award should have been presented during Primetime for the whole world to see. He is a legend and icon in the world of music and he deserves better...much better.
Shows the Grammys’ priorities. This is the same show that unintentionally elicits complaints from fans who get angry when their self-absorbed heroes don’t get *enough* awards. Artists - true artists - don’t need these awards. Wayne Shorter gave *us* awards, and I’ll name a few in tribute to this great human being: Wayning Moments, Night Dreamer, JuJu, Speak No Evil, Adam’s Apple, all his groundbreaking work with Miles and Art and Weather Report. His recordings will still be listened to centuries from now, his improvisations and compositions studied and appreciated by musicians and non-musicians alike. Let the “stars” of the world have their unimportant awards. It’s their only validation.
My god this man deserves this award. For the last 60 years he has been letting out some of the most amazing music this world has ever seen, and his genius has never even gotten close to escaping his work. He is now 85 and his quartet is one of the most phenomenal bands I have ever seen play in my life. I dream of the day that the people of this world will begin to cherish this kind of music rather than the so-called “music” some of them listen to today. God bless this man, and his everlasting genius.
You're right. He's one of the greatest legendary jazz artists around. And thank you for mentioning about him being in Steely Dan's album Aja back in 1977. I have the cassette. Great album that won a Grammy for Best Engineering Recording.
Im just 22 years old, but stumbling into the fusion scene with weather report and each of it's members, as well other artists of the time, really changed my life and i'm forever grateful that I can say I found 'real music' that fills my soul. I guess that the upside of this modern era, is that I have a huge digital catalogue to discover.
Can't help but feel sad to see him in this condition. . . one of the few surviving Jazz titans. When I became curious about Jazz back in the late 70's, his recording JuJu was one of my first purchases. I bought it because I liked the cover art and when I heard the music, I couldn't wait to hear more ! All these decades later, His Blue Note recordings and the second Miles Davis quintet remain some of my very favorite music.
I did not know that his condition was so debility. Years pass fast. I am addicted about jazz music in last times, see him in this condition is so sad, but his music will live forever. May he be blessed... 🇧🇷
Jazz musicians and folk like us who listen and are passionate to the genre, admire Cats like Shorter. He has brought so much into this wonderful music and we appreciate him so much. Wayne deserves much more than just an award with a pad on the back. Wayne's greatest award is the recognition of his fans. We Love you Wayne !
I do too. I am very impressed and sad about his physical condition. I am living in Brazil, it is impossible i watch him in some performance before he is gone. May he be blessed. His art will live forever. 🇧🇷
Unfortunately I just read an article where John Patitucci said that Wayne’s days of being able to perform live and on record are over. But he said that Wayne is still composing (working on an opera among other things )
Unfortunately it’s true that Wayne’s days of performance are probably over. The opera he is working on with Esperanza Spalding will likely be his last great work.
Man got 89 years on this earth. Got to have a career doing what he loved, and had a beautiful family. Everything else, the money, the awards, the fame- it's all gravy.
Who ever those 4👎persons are the art of forgiveness is a very powerful tool definitely out of respect for this beautiful humble and amazing musician and person Mr Wayne Shorter so to those 4persons displaying their disatifactory 👎 towards a musical icon we forgive you because as brother Bob Marley always said an quote "If the cap fits let👎👎👎👎them wear it.We forgive you Chur Chur 😊❤️
I met Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter in Lexington KY at University of Kentucky concert Hall. I think it was around early 1991. Herbie always so kind to me knowing that we are SGI family----
If Coltrane was canonized, so should Wayne be - for the solo on "Aja" alone! I was shocked to see him like this, he has looked much healthier in some recent performances. You listen to something like "Emanon" (which isn't even his best work, in my opinion!) - and then something that someone like Kamasi Washington is trying to do, and they're not even in the same stratosphere...
No doubt. It's a beautiful artistic power for Wayne to be able to always find new things. In a world of his own, but the music still speaks to people who haven't been to his world before
Seems like most posters here have no duties caring for older family members and are squeamish. Wayne in a wheelchair, age 86, what the H. He is doing well, talking and thinking fine. I will show this to my dad tomorrow. He is 87.
i had no idea Wayne has had some health challenges. Is there anyone out there that knows exactly what he is going through? I don't think its a stroke, just wondering. Holding him high in the consciousness of light and love.
Looks good. Trim, handsome. Plenty of hair to grow. Mind is fine. I have no idea if there was a stroke, of course. If you're over 50, you better be taking baby aspirin. Try the Enteric coated, and ask your doctor if you need to take anything else. I'm lucky. I survived with no nerve damage. And don't blow this off.

Absolutely. So right you are.

All his Blue Note recordings are masterpieces to me.
Weather Report stuff too!

RIP Wayne Shorter. "Thank you" for all the great music you blessed us with.
85 years old ! He has done so much amazing work over the years in jazz not to mention his work with Stealy Dan.

RIP Wayne. Thank you for all you've given us.
Oh man... Wayne looks like he's in tough shape, grey eyes and all. Don't leave us yet Wayne!! He's the great living Jazz artist, period.
He made it another 4 years. Pretty impressive. His music lives forever.
Can't help but feel sad to see him in this condition. . . one of the few surviving Jazz titans. No love for this body of work with Weather Report?
I did not know that his condition was so debility. Years pass fast. I am addicted about jazz music in last times, see him in this condition is so sad, but his music will live forever. May he be blessed... 🇧🇷
Juju is very great album, there is a Coltrane feeling on it.
Thanks for kind words, now I definetely need to check that out.) Sometimes RUclips leaves me no choice )
I agree. I was happy to see him, but still seeing him like that hurt my heart.
Take a well deserved rest, Wayne. And thank you so much for all of the music. RIP

RIP 🙏🏽 Wayne Shorter one of my all-time favorite saxophone players so sad to hear this. 😔
SO GLAD HE RECEIVED HIS ROSE NOW THAT HE’S ALIVE. HE ALONG WITH WEATHER REPORT CONTRIBUTED MANY HITS FOR NEW GENERATIONS TO ENJOY.
A true legend. Thank you for your art, Mr. Wayne Shorter. You and your music will live forever.
May Be blessed. Thank you.
🇧🇷.
RIP, Wayne. Thanks for all the years of great music.
RIP Wayne Shorter 😢🎼🎷🕊️🕊️
Wow I didn't know his condition had deteriorated this much. Hope I get to see him perform live at least once before he's gone.
I do too. I am very impressed and sad about his physical condition.
I am living in Brazil, it is impossible i watch him in some performance before he is gone. May he be blessed. His art will live forever.

I didn't know that too. I was a kind of shocked. Last year he seemed to be so fit. I love Wayne Shorter an I wish him the best.

Wayne is a legend. One of my favorite jazz artists and I only have a couple. He's got so many great songs!
Thank you for posting this short but powerful speech. "Emanon" is a project of biblical proportions.
Wayne Shorter has been a huge influence on my love of jazz.

That's a legend right there
Genius
Grande WAyne!!!!
a true giant....
Inmortal!!
legendary..
Nothing wrong with Billy Cobham. But why play "Red Baron" when Shorter has won the award and made so much incredible music?
Because it’s the Grammys. They don’t care.
Seems like most posters here have no duties caring for older family members and are squeamish. Wayne in a wheelchair, age 86, what the H. He is doing well, talking and thinking fine. I will show this to my dad tomorrow. He is 87.

Parabéns Wayne! Vc mais que merece!
Sagrado para o jazz e para música.

i had no idea Wayne has had some health challenges. Is there anyone out there that knows exactly what he is going through? I don't think its a stroke, just wondering. Holding him high in the consciousness of light and love.
What is the tune the band is playing ?
Why is it so quiet
Was this in a different area?
No, it was the pre-show.
Anyone know what happened to him?
Damn Wayne looks bad... bless him
Didn't he lose his wife and child in the flight that blew up over New York in 97
Wife and niece, actually.
Adriən Evangelista Thanx ,I knew it was something like that🙁
was it really that empty or everyone absent atm was in the restroom?
It was the pre-show.
What's happened to Waynye ?
Record companies don't take the road less traveled...
Can someone pls tell me what is the track being played when they announce his name?
Abhishek Garg it sounded like Cobhams Red Baron.
@@Sclapt61 Thanks. I heard Red baron, quite similar. Also got introduced to Billy Cobhams. Thanks so much!
Damn it! What's wrong with Wayne? Shit!!!!

Wow I’m actually first comment, what an achievement
Sad to see Wayne in a wheel chair. Such a kind spirit he was. R.I.P. NAM-MYO-HO-RENGE-KYO.
