    Hey guys, just to let you know the reason that it is called pineapple bun is because the top is supposed to look like the outside of pineapple.

    Hor Fun is what the flat rice noodle is usually called on the mainland i had to ask my hawaiian friend what was look noodle. . cantonese satay sauce is nothing like the thai satay peanut sauce. pineapple bun is called that because it usually has long pineapple like pattern on the outside. its often coupled with a slab of butter in the middle

    Someone gave us a Custard Pie from Nandings. It was pretty good compared to Lee's. Maybe you can do a Custard Pie challenge now that Kaneohe Bakery and DeeLite Bakery are gone. You'll have to find a few more places to compare.

    Wow, that omelette looked really good. But I was disappointed that you didn't get the Hong Kong style crispy noodles. Kind of like cake noodles only better.

    The "Ovomaltine"-French Toast is quite an invention. Wow never thought of it but need to try. OvoMALTine is made with malt and therefore assumed to be healthier especially for young children than cocoadrinks. I personally never liked it in a drink form. Here in Switzerland and southern germany it is either prepared with milk or water.

    I know exactly what you mean by "wok flavor". Sort of an iron+faintly burnt oil taste. I catch it every time in stir-fry noodle dishes.

    The topping supposed to looks like a pineapple but it just supposed to look like a pineapple the pattern on top. But yes it dont have no pineapple in it.

    • @spang9782
      @spang9782 Год назад +1

      Yes! It's like the Japanese melon pan that Amanda mentioned. The name refers to the texture of the bun top, not the ingredients. Although...Felix's pineapple bun didn't quite look like a pineapple!

    • @grandmax4
      @grandmax4 Год назад +1

      No, that’s the way it’s supposed to look on top. That “pineapple-like” topping is being introduced on cha siu baus in San Francisco dim sum houses now too. Doesn’t seem to have been introduced to Honolulu yet.

    I think it actually is called chow funn (maybe among other names). You guys in Hawaii for some reason call it look funn. Cheong funn to my knowledge are those typically stufed with shrimp/beef/duck rice "rolls" you get at dim sum.

    Looking forward to the japan content to come. In terms of HK/Cantonese cuisine, it usually skews cleaner, less seasoned in flavour which gives off that lighter feeling vs heavy greasy cuisine. As for the pineapple bun, as many have indicated, it is in name only as there is no pineapple flavor at all. The pineapple denotes the pattern of the crust on top of the bun. HK peeps do enjoy the guilty pleasure of eating it with a slab of butter in the middle. As for Lido in Richmond, imho it is overrated and service is ... Keep the content coming!
