I notice that the difference between Singapore leaders and many leaders of other democratic countries is that Singaporean leaders don't always make the populist decision. In fact, they seldom make the populist decision. They know that they will probably be elected again and also the majority of the citizens know that there is no viable alternative party at the moment that can match their track record of running the country for half a century. In contrast, political leaders in other countries get elected based on spewing popular rhetoric and making the decision that is short term popular rather than long term beneficial. Almost every decision Singapore government makes is towards long term benefit for a very small island nation. And to do this their leaders have to be very perceptive to what is going on outside their borders and geopolitical economic developments in other countries as well and also anticipate how possible permutations of such developments will affect the future of their own country. Old habits die hard.
@@freemanol My comment was about continuity of ideas from govt to govt. Every 3 or 4 years America and Australia change policy and thus cant actually achieve anything long term without it being changed and "reviewed/reassessed"
@@dilligafwoftam985 yeah exactly. In the west people are proud of the fact that their government kept changing in polar directions, as if it's an example of the greatness of democracy. More like chaos. I think people are blinded by the ideology, so much that they completely miss the chaos happening in front of their eyes
Rich people are democratic, poor people are not. If you want your country to be rich go democratic. I think the largest advantage of democracy, is how equitably the merchant class can have some control of the government. Over history when the merchant class is unoppressed, the people and country are richer. Don’t be tricked by the strongmen. Democracy creates short term instability, authoritarianism creates huge instability whenever power is passed on, or when the ruling ideology fucks up.
USA also got alot of help, tech fr Germany, independence fr France and chemical fr Japan
And slaves from Black nations

@@vivatan13 Yeah. And the US cordoned the war crimes of the people involved in unit 731, got their diabolical human research data and did not try them for their war crimes.
Mr Lee is so impressive compared to other heads of government around. This is a triumph of rational thinking when dealing with world matters, however complicated they happen to be. Many lessons to other nations should they wish to improve the way they govern their people.
Thats bullshit, he is riding on his father's legacy like any despots do!
Singapore has the ability to choose quality leaders...
Sadly to say Malaysia PM currently don't have this type of calibre, intelligent, kind and put the benefit of his people as priority
Both Singapore and Malaysia have Chinese political interference. Not one country in SEA has picked a side, US/China... They will have to make a choice.
I don't think any country's PM has such calibre.
Mr Lee is a good leader, talks a lot of sense most eloquently.
Sg’s PM is very well versed to be politically neutral and keeps friends on all sides. It’s a skill that is important for a country of that size and in that location.
So you like him because he looks the other way when crimes against humanity is being done by authorities? He also wants to mass medicate with a medication that doesn't work.
Thats bullshit, he is riding on his father's legacy like any despots do!

Patrik pass yup, always worth watching yet another fringe video with a few hundred views. The kind that gets shared by clueless baby boomers all over Facebook
Amazing leader
That first swallow hit the mark .... Kudos Pm of Singapore
The moment everyone wishes we had this guy as our leader.
Intelligent, quietly confident with a dry with, he's the Arsene Wenger of politics.
I’ve been trying to explain this to people as well…should there ever be a wartime conflict between the west and the east…this Planet is literally going to blow up.
So it's OK for CCP to be the aggressor while we should sit back, otherwise we are wrong, right?
@@ernahubbard2062 what topsy turvy, alternate reality do you live in? China is an aggressor?
@@TheDaeroner Sure, CCP China is a country of rule of law, transparent and people there enjoy the freedom of speech, freedom of religion and you don't need a VPN to come to RUclips.
@@ernahubbard2062 i'd argue that being able to walk outside safely at night and to prosper economically is also a form of freedom. It's about trade offs. If americans prefer freedom of speech than public safety and stability, that's fine by us. But that's your choice, don't shove it down other people's throats
@@freemanol So you mean your female fellow citizens jumped out a cargo truck for safety, and kids got snapped on the streets, and ladies got burned to death is the cost for the so-called prosperity? Provided your "prosperity" and public safety are just an illusion, over six hundred million people has an income of only less than 130 USD a month, i call that poverty. And those tutors, facilities, institutions just got bankrupted because your emperor doesn't want them, those millions are fine too, right?
Sure, it's fine by you, because those people are not your people, you don't give a damn about them. So long as you are not hit by the iron fist, you are fine.
Excellent case study in diplomacy and dealing with a biased interviewer. I lost track of the number of loaded questions and snide comments. Thankfully, the PM rose above it all and provided excellent points well worthy listening to. It is too bad that almost no US politicians will.
PM Lee Hsien Loong is excellent communicator. Best Wishes from India to him and his people. 👍👌
I love how my PM of this tiny island telling the 2 giants to chill the fk out.
Watch this and weep, UK. PM Lee is a true statesman, Johnson is a bumbling fool
A political leader needs to be pragmatic and patriotic. I think there is much to learn from Singapore.
