I haven’t even watched Law&Order, But Rafael Barba has carved his way into my heart through scenes I had to watch for a college classes. Stabler was an a****** and my short king is wiping the floor with Sasquatch’s face.
I wholeheartedly believe he was trying to protect her because the way Stabler handled the case could have not only hurt Olivia, but ended her career, and Barba see's that. I also believe Stabler wasn't thinking about how any of this could have hurt Olivia because he was only thinking about his own needs. I think Barba has a much deeper love for Olivia and I think Stabler is toxic even if he is fun to watch.
Stabler has tunnel vision and only sees what’s right in front of him. So he doesn’t see the broad scope of things and how this could effect other people. He and Barba are polar opposites and even though I haven’t gotten this far in the series and know nothing about the situation yet I do believe Barba wanted to protect Liv. He truly cares for her and he doesn’t want her and her reputation torn apart like he knows any other defense attorney would do. I just hate that he became a defense attorney. This sucks. Lol.

Yes! Elliot has always been leading Olivia down a road to a broken heart. And his anger is too much to be healthy with anyone. She doesn’t need his chaos in her life. I want her and Barbs to heal this rift. If she can forgive Elliot, she can forgive him. His sin was much less.

When he had to leave, I was "No, No No". How can they do that ? ( Ok Raùl Esparza had a show on Broadway) but the way he kissed goodbye on her fronthead was one of saddest moment of the show.
I know everyone is pushing for Stabler and Benson, I've never seen it. These two Barba and Benson have always had so much chemistry. They deserve a chance.
Ive never pushed for Olivia and Stabler as it was a cops partner kind of love/friendship which can be deeper than most marriages. Then as they got older and came back into each other's lives I DEFINITELY didn't want them to be romantically involved! It felt forced and awkward!
I’ve always been iffy about Liv and Elliot together. But here lately (I’m just on season 16 right now) I’ve been really feeling the vibes and chemistry between Liv and Rafi. I would love to see them together.. I also wish that Liv and Brian had stayed together. I liked them together.

I hope so. I would so love it if Raul returned to the main cast and they explored this Barba/Benson relationship some more. I also questioned the “Stabler coming back” comment. I think her asking if it was about Stabler was about him taking the case, if it was to spite him for some reason. But he said he doesn’t even know the guy. But maybe him being there complicated what Barba thought they had going on or something. I don’t know. That was my interpretation of both comments.
Stabler makes thinks complicated because Benson always wants to help him, and Stabler is more than willing to accept her help (demand it even) with no concern about costs or consequences for Olivia. So only Barba cares about what is best for Benson, while Benson fights and growls and demands that he back off and let her keep on her destructive course. An incredibly painful situation.
So happy to see that I'm not the only one who puts Liv and Barba first. Next season they have to fix up their bond, there is some hope since Benson said 'I miss you too'. These two already have an history together and now they have to cool down and reconnect. Maybe they can talk about themselves and their future if any. Stabler will always be a big stuff in her life but it can't ruin anything she's trying to do. She adopted Noah when he was not with her. ! . And now he is working undercover (which is unrealistic ..). Olivia has to come back to her bond with Barba knowing that it is her future. Stabler belongs to the past.
Barba knew that Elliot's presence in Olivia's life meant that he's not needed and his jealousy was clear. I wish that they hadn't used this case to assassinate his character and ruin the Barba/Benson friendship.
He might be jealous, but I think it's also true that Stabler always cares more about himself than anyone else in the room and Barba seems that. Olivia has every reason to know it too but she just refuses to see it.
Benson needs to get over herself & quit being butthurt over every little thing & everyone. 🙄 I can only imagine how much she's sickened with & hates the fact that, as the head of SVU, who is there to protect women from predators & rapists, just recently slept with one. 🤔😂

Ah the tears. I always loved Barba and it really sucked seeing him play the "bad guy". He always had my heart and seeing him break Olivia's heart, broke mine. I really hope the next episode they can work things out. I always held out hope for them.
It sucks that this was Elliot’s intro to Barba. It’s devastating that Liv feels so betrayed the two of them got so close. Doesn’t Noah call him uncle? I hope they fix things.
Well honestly I don’t see him playing as the bad guy. In a way I believe he took it knowing Olivia would stand by Stabler in this. He knew the case had many holes in it, as well as that the defense would have dragged her through the case. They would have brought out all her past, errors and even the past between Stabler and her. She would have been destroyed. Barba was looking out for her, it’s the reason he grilled Stabler on the stand, but went easy on Olivia. When it comes to Stabler Olivia is blind. I mean the guy was gone for over ten years, comes back and she suddenly forgets the 6+ years she has known Barba. Barba has been there for the worst and best of her life. What she went through with Lewis. Getting Noah, watching him grow up. Has always had her back. Yet one word from Stabler and all that no longer matters. Stabler has always been toxic for her and her career. When he left she grew in the ranks to captain. Had he stayed she would have lost her badge at one point or remained a detective. She even admitted to Amaro. I never liked the relationship between stabler and benson. They were partners and they were good partners. But that was it. Stabler is never able to lean on someone for help. When benson tried to help, she was practically shoved out the door and told to back off. Even after once again risking her career for him. I say back stabler up and push Barba back in. She has a great squad, that had a great if not the best ADA. She doesn’t need stabler back in her life.
I totally agree with your thoroughly thought out assessment. Elliot has hurt Olivia time and time again. I just don't see the great connection. She was so hurt he never contacted her for 10 plus years. Now they want to act like she pined away for him all that time. Get real. Barba is a much better choice on every level. I hope he becomes a full time player again and Stabler a memory of a past life.

But not only that, they thought that wasn't enough and created that wedge between her and Barba. You can also see in the few episodes how she allowed him to influence her like he did before.
Oh yes. Stabler abd Liv worked well together but I don't think Stabler will always be there for her. It's like he's a spoilt kid but Raffa is a grown up, holds Liv up on a pedestal and is willing to fight for her. Please get them together.. it's like Stabler is her past but Raffa is her future.

I always liked barba and liv because he wasn't quite her type most of her relationships were with brudy mean tough guys like tucker, Cassidy. and Stabler back in the day or older mean who were super smart but were off and ended up being peeps in their own right. I do ship benson amd stabler but I also ship benson and barba. Hard to see barba go down this route but we know he would have to do it to save benson by hurting her he just didn't know how bad it would be. They have 2 seasons to figure it out
My guess is Wheatley was innocent after all, and when it comes out that Angela was the one who tried to kill Olivia, these two will reconcile. He took the case to control the narrative around her, she just doesn’t see it yet.
When Stabler is around, she is not able to see anything else than Stabler and his welfare. She behaves like the victims she is fighting for, they accept every thing from their man. Stabler can't stand that people say No to him. And he has some anger issues. That's an explosive cocktail.
After Stabler left, I was in and out of SVU until Barba joined the show. Besides been a great ADA, his relationship with Liv provided a necessary balance to the show. I understood the reason why he took the case for the defense the last time but besides using this as a vehicle to bring him into the show and have him go up against Stabler, I really don't understand why he thought Wheatley was been railroaded. He said something about all the RICO charges that were dropped because One PP cherry picked Kathy Stabler's case to get some justice/payback for Elliot and if they can go after someone like Wheatley with money then they can go after anyone. His explanation didn't make sense to me and I hate that they have compromised his great character.
I'm confused about It too, I hope that his real reason was what he told Liv about wanting to protect her and her career, like he prefered to control the narrative in some way, I even would have thought he put as a condition that Richard didn't go after Liv but what took me by surprise is the fact that It was Rafa who seek to represent Wheatley and not otherwise. I hope there's more to the story and Rafael has other motivation for this. I mean his defense made sense in a way regarding the investigation of Kathy's murder but it's not like he was unaware that Richard at the very least is shady and guilty of other charges even if they were dropped and Liv outright asked him to not take the case and he still did it.

Bring him back, she needs him. The way he checks she is ok, kisses her head. The court room nods. And the way she calls him Rafa!!!!! My heart….
How insensitive of the writers to damage Barba’s and Liv’s friendship. They had a really cool connection. How tragic to make Barba the bad guy in Liv’s eyes.
I think she is blind to the damage she does to herself when she cares only about helping someone else and refusing to consider the cost to herself. God knows Stabler doesn't care about how she could be hurt. And yeah, she's a mom, she needs her reputation and her job and her mental health for Noah's sake at least. So Barba watches her back, and Noah's too, even when she won't. Unfortunately I think the writers are failing to see it this way, or they just want a Stabler/Benson affair no matter what a self jerk Stabler is.
Your edit is so beautiful and emotional. I really hope this is gonna be fixed by the writers because it was so sad. I personally ship EO but I admit I really love Barson, to me they seem to have a beautiful platonic connection that if Raul had stayed longer or Chris wouldn't have returned I could easily see Liv and Rafa as endgame. I do believe not all is lost and the fact that Barba was offered twice a position to work with Wheatley and appeared on OC leaves the door open for him to return at least one more time, I hope there is a bigger reason for his decision and that he has a redemption and their friendship survives.
Bro the Rafa in this ep held my bensler heart hard barson tugging me in the opposite direction. I almost ship both couple equally but longer time is invested in bensler he really is amazing love him and didn't even know it. Great edit

As much as I like liv and elliot together, this past season he has shown time and time again that its always him first and Olivia second. Barba has always shown us that Olivia is his no 1 and always will be. It makes me sad that she is going to fall for the selfish brute and not the gentleman of whom she is the world.
Once when I saw Stabler and Olivia's interactions I said this is the perfect couple but when I saw Barba and Olivia's interactions I saw how wrong I was In my defense I had only seen the seasons before the character of Barba appeared I support you 1000%

Then he leld her when she cried on his shoulder after Grandma Sheila had kidnapped young Noah ("Gone baby, gone''). She literally can lean on his shoulder. Every body helped her to grow but Stabler.

Anyone who wants Stabler and Barba to happen likes unhealthy relationships. She could've had better with Tucker, but she let him go. She could've had a healing relationship with Cassidy. With Barba, she can have a great man but if they put her with a consistently problematic Elliot, all the character development she did declines. Bc he makes all her bad traits come out even if he had a hand in the cop she is today. With Stabler, she has 0 growth. She ends up stuck in the past, always finding excuses for his bad decisions, the list goes on. he left because he unplugged the life asssitance,, , then he's from Cuba and he had an affair when he was younger with that Yelina . He kept in touch with Olivia. Stabler only "put his papers in" and never kept in touch. Came back ten years later. But Olivia is still in awe when it comes to her ex-partner. Kind of regressing to the junior assistant she used to be.

I always liked barba and liv because he wasn't quite her type most of her relationships were with brudy mean tough guys like tucker, Cassidy. and Stabler back in the day or older mean who were super smart but were off and ended up being peeps in their own right.
I do ship benson amd stabler but I also ship benson and barba. Hard to see barba go down this route but we know he would have to do it to save benson by hurting her he just didn't know how bad it would be. They have 2 seasons to figure it out

My guess is Wheatley was innocent after all, and when it comes out that Angela was the one who tried to kill Olivia, these two will reconcile. He took the case to control the narrative around her, she just doesn’t see it yet.
When Stabler is around, she is not able to see anything else than Stabler and his welfare.
She behaves like the victims she is fighting for, they accept every thing from their man.

After Stabler left, I was in and out of SVU until Barba joined the show. Besides been a great ADA, his relationship with Liv provided a necessary balance to the show. I understood the reason why he took the case for the defense the last time but besides using this as a vehicle to bring him into the show and have him go up against Stabler, I really don't understand why he thought Wheatley was been railroaded. He said something about all the RICO charges that were dropped because One PP cherry picked Kathy Stabler's case to get some justice/payback for Elliot and if they can go after someone like Wheatley with money then they can go after anyone. His explanation didn't make sense to me and I hate that they have compromised his great character.
I'm confused about It too, I hope that his real reason was what he told Liv about wanting to protect her and her career, like he prefered to control the narrative in some way, I even would have thought he put as a condition that Richard didn't go after Liv but what took me by surprise is the fact that It was Rafa who seek to represent Wheatley and not otherwise. I hope there's more to the story and Rafael has other motivation for this. I mean his defense made sense in a way regarding the investigation of Kathy's murder but it's not like he was unaware that Richard at the very least is shady and guilty of other charges even if they were dropped and Liv outright asked him to not take the case and he still did it.

I think she is blind to the damage she does to herself when she cares only about helping someone else and refusing to consider the cost to herself. God knows Stabler doesn't care about how she could be hurt. And yeah, she's a mom, she needs her reputation and her job and her mental health for Noah's sake at least. So Barba watches her back, and Noah's too, even when she won't. Unfortunately I think the writers are failing to see it this way, or they just want a Stabler/Benson affair no matter what a self jerk Stabler is.

I personally ship EO but I admit I really love Barson, to me they seem to have a beautiful platonic connection that if Raul had stayed longer or Chris wouldn't have returned I could easily see Liv and Rafa as endgame. I do believe not all is lost and the fact that Barba was offered twice a position to work with Wheatley and appeared on OC leaves the door open for him to return at least one more time, I hope there is a bigger reason for his decision and that he has a redemption and their friendship survives.

Anyone who wants Stabler and Barba to happen likes unhealthy relationships. She could've had better with Tucker, but she let him go. She could've had a healing relationship with Cassidy. With Barba, she can have a great man but if they put her with a consistently problematic Elliot, all the character development she did declines. Bc he makes all her bad traits come out even if he had a hand in the cop she is today. With Stabler, she has 0 growth. She ends up stuck in the past, always finding excuses for his bad decisions, the list goes on.
