- Phil Mickelson was a four-time major champion when he entered The 142nd Open Championship at Muirfield in 2013.
Just weeks after narrowly missing out on winning the US Open, the American triumphed in the final round with an incredible golfing showcase. Overcoming the likes of Henrik Stenson, Ian Poulter and Tiger Woods to win the only Claret Jug of his career.

No leaderboard updates really takes the drama out of it. But I appreciate being able to see this since I missed the original broadcast.
why do they not show the leaderboard updates? weird
God damn crazy no leaderboard unbelievable.
Why no leaderboard absolutely ridiculous. C’mon R&A
Who is the older sounding announcer, love this guy.
Seriously best commentator, someone make him a national treasure.
Thats peter alliss uk golf commentary legend that sadly passed a few years back
@@fm1798 Damn, RIP Sir Alliss.
Thanks for the info
Played Muirfield last Thursday morning (2/12) It wasn’t quite as brown as it was back in 2013!! Awesome golf course 👍🏻
how'd you score?
@@TheHonours16 He must be still counting it up lol 🤣
@@SiLoMixMaster he's still counting... lol
I wonder why the leaderboard isn't shown? It'd be great if this was updated and had leaderboard updates included.
Amazing !!!!!! In the first two and a half hours, Phil Mickelson, the Open winner was on camera less than 5 minutes. But we did get to see Ian Poulter and Lee Westwood walk down many fairways, and line up many putts. There was no leaderboard during the entire coverage. So much for famed BBC greatness! By the way, Phil is also in the Golf Hall of Fame.
I really appreciate these full round broadcast but please please include leaderboards and player tags as they take the shots. The masters do it with no issue and it takes away from the viewing experience
Thank you very much for sharing this video! For someone that is new to the sport though, it would be cool if you wouldn't put the winner in the title so that it doesn't feel like you've read the last page of a book first.
4:41:41 - An opposite image of what would happen at Troon 3 years later
I'm honestly amazed every time I watch this round how short of the flag these guys are on so many shots. Westwood's distance control was just abysmal and Tiger was left with so many huge putts
I really like the brit broadcast team but why no leaderboard updates or even player updates on screen?
I'm surprised the R&A haven't replaced Phil and Henrik's faces in this with Rory's and Luke Donald's instead 🤣🤣
The lack of leaderboard graphics sucks, but you can keep track by listening carefully.
I appreciate seeing this but I wish the British Open broadcasters would let us know distance to flag, hazards, things like that to get a better feel of what the players are facing.
Why do these "official " videos never show the scores on screen ? Strange!
Neat how Matt Fitzpatrick was low amateur at this Open. Now he's near the top of the golf world. He'll win a major sooner or later.
He did go on to win a major (2022 US Open)
When will be shown the Open 1984 ?
Sure seems to me that Phil M. is a blessed man with a wonderful supporting family... Wouldn't it be something if he were to sneak in an win the U.S. Open...??
He also backstabbed his captain in a live news report after USA lost the Ryder cup
@@johnmudd6453 yep remember that after gleneagles i think against tom watson
After watching it again, I think Westwood's yardage book was wrong....lost count how many times he came miles short. And way out too, trying to hit a 8 iron 184 yards into a cold Scottish wind ain't going to work. Then looked bemused when his shots flew into the bunker 40 yards short.....Phil was just brilliant, played the conditions and more importantly, links golf perfect. Was a brilliant champion
the Lee Westwood song (in every Major key): "let's choke again, like we did last summer....let's choke again, like we'll do next year"
Westy. Very unique downswing.
7 of the last 8 Open champions at Murfield won 6+ majors. (4-time major winner Ernie Els being the odd man out.) Murfield should host this championship at least every 10 years. What are you doing R&A waiting longer!?
Murfield is a club that still rejects female members, hence the R&A takes it out of the rotation. I don't know what you are on about. It is not even news.
Took off for none lady members but I think that's been solved now. And Ernie's 4 ain't bad thou
@@freegg123 In March 2017 members of Muirfield voted 80.2% in favour of updating their membership policy. In 2019 they invited 12 women members to join. It will host The Open Championship in 2026 or later.
@@christianmontgomery1208 good to know, thanks.
@Axileus Not a prerequisite per se, at the time other clubs including Augusta moved on from their some might cal biased traditions, to be more open. It is the right thing to do tbh.
I played today in a huge goose down jacket, long underwear, and ski gloves. The temperature was 31 f. with a 15 mph wind The greens were frozen like me. I miss summer play.
No leaderboard the entire tournament? Wild coverage
3:43:52 God forbid they record them turning in their scores. Calm down Bones
Why no leaderboards? Takes the interest out of it.
Scores please.
@58:04
"How's Tiger lying?"
Presumably, he's insisting to his partner that their relationship is a monogamous one.
Scott's putter...my god. To say it has aged like a bag of milk is an understatement.
No leaderboard, info, footage switches just when Tiger and Steve r about to make eye contact, ridiculously low quality broadcasting.
Hi Liam, unfortunately this is the direct feed from the World Feed, it is the individual broadcasters who add on their graphics that you would see on TV. Hopefully you still managed to enjoy this great final round
@@golfranda Thanks, just disappointed to not see what went down between Tiger and Steve on the first tee, the golf is of course second to none and so is the championship.
@@golfranda I've enjoyed every final round that you put up. As far as I am concerned, I don't mind waiting for the commentator to announce the score. Adds a bit of the "radio" commentary feeling, especially having grown up listening to radio wherever test cricket, tennis or football was broadcast in the pre-TV days in India.
@@golfranda All these full final round videos you are posting are badly hampered by the lack of any scores so it's impossible to know where everyone is standing. Yes it's great to see the shots but surely you can get your own graphics put onto the video footage now and again with a basic scoreboard?? It's not that hard.
Ian Poulter.
It was because of your pants 🤦😂
It was wonderful to see the Champion Golfer of the Year on screen for maybe 15 total minutes out of a 5 hour broadcast. Maybe with leaderboards onscreen the broadcasters would have realized that they were following the losers more than the eventual winner. By far the worst of the 4 Majors. Commentators were terrible.
It is just hard to believe that the narrative for Phil Mickelson and the British Open, even from Phil himself, was that Phil's game diddn't fit a British Open. I mean, from someone who has followed golf for all of Phil's career, from where I sit, the British Open fits him perfectly. Just an odd narrative that I never understood.
Early in his career "flighting" the ball in the Scottish winds was not a strength of Mickelson's. He hit a very spinny ball that got chewed up and spit out by the winds of links golf. he learned how to hit softer/less spinny shots starting in mid 2000's and then it was juts a matter of time
sick that phils first drive i guess 2 iron rolls out so far and hits the other ball in the fairway
no information about the scores. very frustrating to watch
I hate it when you don't show the leaderboard, very disturbing...
Another Lee choke? YLTSI
No leaderboard makes this unwatchable, unfortunately.
Could these BBC commentators be ANY more biased toward Westwood? "The last thing we need is another Tiger"?!? They were practically cheerleading -- exceedingly annoying.
Not showing the leaderboard is definitely a strange choice. Really makes it unwatchable.
MURFILD PRODUCES THE BEST CHAMPIONS IN ALL GOLF. WHY DOES IT NOT HOST THE OPEN MORE ????????????????????????????? POLITICS MAYBE?
It’s because they wouldn’t allow wamin members. So yeah, bolitics.
couldn't of happened to a nicer fella
I don't believe these dips showed the Leaderboard even once!!!
This has to be the least coverage ever given to the eventual winner, right? Like I’m sure they’re all very proud of Ian Poulter and his zero major wins, but come on.
And then you factor in the lack of leaderboards-which makes it very difficult to create any drama because nobody knows what the fuck is going on-and you’re looking at a very weak presentation. Do better.
Man tiger was already walking like an old man
Zach Johnson is the most boring golfer of all time
Phil really has a face and attitude you love to hate. Pure american golfer
