Seaboard GRAND plays Abbey Road Studios: "Dalston Rising"

On May 22nd, ROLI showcased a Seaboard ensemble at Abbey Road Studios, featuring legendary keyboardist Jordan Rudess, accompanied by Marco Parisi and Heen-Wah Wai, and Ray Hearne at the drums.
This epic, cinematic song was composed by Jordan Rudess at ROLI headquarters in Dalston, London.

I think this still in its infancy. Certainly someone will find ways to use it as an unique instrument, instead of resembling what could be an electric guitar, or could be strings, or base. The concept is great, I'd love to control the expression and dynamics with a surface like this... anyway, this is just something new, it is not replacing the wood, the steel, the nature and warmth of the traditional instruments. Give it time and it will be its own thing. Hope my english is not too poor. Greatings from Brazil.

What has always been a weak point of keyboards (I've been playing for over 40 years) is the limited expressiveness. By this demonstration, it is obvious that it can replicate the expressiveness of other instruments. Because of that, there's also plenty of cool EDM stuff and live looping that can be done with the same Roli using a different sound pack. I agree with you; it’s not the same as real, acoustic instruments. Seaboards are fabulous for providing keyboardists with new levels of expression, though, and will develop their own place alongside the non-keyboard instruments.

I'm intrigued by this instrument but I'd like to hear some ballsier guitar-like shredding before committing myself. All the demos I've seen have had this kind of MoR Milke Oldfield style lift music as the demo, which is something of a turn-off tbh.
