You think someone locked this fake door between rehearsal and live taping, because of a low budget? I think there were times where they legitimately screwed up or props didn't work as expected, and those would get such a reaction from the audience that they started doing similar things on purpose. Conan did an interview with Stephen Colbert once where he mentioned that mishaps on late night shows are great TV (and suggested that he's the best at that). If he actively has that mindset, he's definitely at least been tempted to stage a mishap or two
Why does it matter if it was done on purpose or not? It doesn't harm anyone, it is hilarious and not to mention Conan knew how to pull it off. It is not like one of those game shows or reality shows where people are clearly tricked into believing everything shown is authentic. Plus this is just your speculation and nothing else.
It’s definitely not staged. That’s why conan thought it was so funny. He’s not a good actor. Saying it is staged implies he’d be able to fake hysterically laugh in such a genuine intonation
Man, what a show this was.
genuine conan laughter
This is the daily life of a technical support worker. I have had this exact conversation WAY too many times. “I use Google” gave me actual flashbacks
God bless her, she wanted outta there 😂
She could've used google to open the door.....:P
in 2022 this idea is not so far fetched with Google Nest lol
Anybody out there, what’s the old lady’s name?!?!
She’s in a bunch of Conan sketches and no one mentions her name!
Didn't Conan say "Poor Lee..." towards the end?
You‘re right, her name was Lee Kheel. She passed away in 2009, would have been 101 by now, god bless her!
The funny part is Lady Weinberg was Max in drag.
Wait, a minute how did they know how my Dad used the internet?
noone expected the show to be so cheap
I loved Conan back in the day, but he really abused the whole "make this thing not work on purpose and we'll pretend we screwed up, lol" routine
You really don't know how little budget they had.
you think this was staged? them boys were broke
