As someone that has a proper legal e-bike, the McLaren looks terrible. I can just imagine all the UK trail centres loving a McLaren scooter churning up the trails with it's torque 😀
The geometry of this bike is really only suitable for flat trails and tracks as the headstock is far too tall and the bars are far too wide. Talking of the bars, if you drop or fall off this bike and damage that fancy carbon cockpit I’d be very interested to know what McClaren would intend to charge for a replacement? I’ll stick with my Canyon GrizlOn for now thanks. Which has both a front and two rear lights built in by the way.
it seems its more of a cross country bike, suitable for hard packed tracks slash tar seal. the geometry seems off, the handle bars look awkward. but i would take it for a test ride
I think car manufacturers should leave bike building to proper bike manufacturers. In most cases ( and I thinking about bmw for this ) it’s a gimmick for car manufacturers to sell something extra after a car purchase. Being a mountain biker myself, the price of the McLaren is not that far off the same level of other emtbs. My own trek rail was originally up for just over 9k
According to McLaren’s web site the Extreme is only available in the US for a mere $12,000. How many people have that sort of money to spend on a bike? Interesting tech Ped but in the real world well, this bike isn’t. It’s a toy for rich men. I thought the original reason for having a bike was cheap (ish) transport that’s good for the environment and most importantly good for your health. I’m in my mid 60’s and in 4-6 months I will be facing redundancy for the 7th time in my life. So I’m a bit low at the moment and this type of gadget winds me up!
As both a cyclist and petrol head, I wonder when, not if, that all ebikes will be classed like mopeds and require insurance,CBT etc?? I regularly get passed uphill, whilst in the car, by e-cyclists-usually with a large square insulated back pack on....I wouldn't mind so much if they were pedaling furiously, but more often than not they aren't pedaling at all. £11.5k though, for that money I don't think I would want to pedal!
ALL Motor vehicles need Tax and Insurance, etc. Except for the those electrically propelled cycles that come within the so called 'E-Bike' rules'. Many of the up powered bikes used as you describe have been seized and destroyed in recent months . The rules are clear, the problem is enforcement on the road and sales by unscrupulous dealers who pretend that they are selling for 'off road use only'.
You don’t generally fit mud guards on an MTB, especially a full suspension bike. You can get a guard that clips to the seat post or saddle to save your bum. If you look at my bike it has half guards which are also an option.
That front end is just plain weird, could have achieved the same goal with attachments rather than fixed to bars screen/light. Probably eliminated 90% of the customers for e-bikes and not because of the price. Mountain bikers want to make their bikes their own, favourite type of bars is a massive example.
Sounds to me like those brakes needed bedding in, also surprised to see that they were the same model that’s on my Fuel at a considerably lower price point. Would have expected something a bit more substantial 👍🏻
Sounds noisy for such an expensive bike rattles and squeely brakes I have a thousand pound hard tail that doesn’t rattle or squeel but it’s not electric either.
The last time I had and rode a bike, it had a little round chrome bell on the handle bars, mudguards with a little red reflector on the rear guard and had a chain guard, and a little leather saddle bag connected to the seat with a bike spanner inside it, and also hand pump on the frame.
E-bikes are not cheating, my simple steel framed treader with a 240 motor gets me out and about across the South Downs local roads quite well. The last time I went off roading it took four months for the bruises to go. Nice Video by the way.
One of the best purchases I have ever made even though I still balk at the purchase price for in essence a push bike. That could have paid for a very good trail motorbike but you don't get fit on a motorbike. You know that I very nearly purchased a Trek from Paul in Edinburgh but in the end got a Haibike & reckoned I got the bits that were important to me without the Carbon frame i.e. bigger battery & mullet set up. Cheating maybe but for someone who loves cycling off & on road but with knees that are beyond their sell by date it is an ebike or no bike I and am glad I did. A McLaren ebike yes yes yes a lot of cash but you are paying for the name & why not and for the people who have the kind of cash to afford this it will be a nice trinket for display or the odd run along a trail & why not. I am not sure on the styling of the cockpit but I do like the headlight fitted into the cowl so maybe I could live with it as a necessary evil. Maybe I could sell my bike to the missus and upgrade to this without telling her the price as it is the only McLaren I could ever hope to own or afford..
Im not actually that knowledgeable on bikes but i enjoyed following the content you did up in Scotland with your dream bike build that had u regularly driving all the way up there with the podcast style update vids. This mclaren ebike is cool as an idea. It was made to see how far can you really go with the ebike. The ultimate ebike on steroids. But even yours is more than enough power than you'd need going uphill.
My hasn't the Deadly Tredly come long way since the old fixed wheeler. Looks like fun, a bit more sophisticated than my old 18 speed runabout mountain (hill) bike standing in the shed. Cheers and thanks.
I love McLaren's branch-out gear and clothing. But the likes of this or their carbon bags etc are crazy prices. The bags are £1500+ Worthy of those prices?? I can afford the clothes and the K-Swiss trainers, but yikes. It's a fine looking bike though.
I bought 2x Trek Rails earlier this year. One for me and the other for my son - loving them so far after doing some Wales and Scotland trail centres 👍🏻 Max power from the Bosch CX perf is 600w, in Turbo & eMTB mode. The 250w is the sustained power number, to meet the UK/EU regulations I saw this McLaren eMTB’s launch earlier this year and they look typical car maker rebranding another e-bike. Rob Rides (YT e-bike channel) wasn’t too praising of this either .
Amazing bit of kit and I would love to have a go on one. But £11K wow. I'd be scared to own one. I have road hybrid bike from Halfords £1k on the cycle to work scheme. A fanstastic bike for me in the summer. And yes I full agree it isn't cheating, it just means I can ride further and tackle the hills easier. Loved this one Pedro, Cheers.
You’re right Pete the you only need to use the amount of electrical assistance you need or choose on an e-bike. Not everybody is a sinuous athlete and they provide mobility and exercise to those who have physical limitations. I’ve even got my wife cycling again on one! Will you be strapping some on a motor home if you do that again?
Thinking about purchasing an e-bike, I thought the bars looked too low, creating a sprint type feel as oppose to chill out more upright feel. Anyhow great filming shots it like you had a crew filming you. Superb.
@@PetrolPed Well done Mark, I liked/enjoyed this for the skilled camera work, tracking shots and editing. Great work. Loved the finishing shot disappearing showing the valley and weather feel. Superb.
I love my bicycles too and only have N at the moment and getting itchy to buy a new one! But not ready for an e-bike yet - they are great though and help a lot of people back out on a bike who aren’t that fit, which is good. The top end Trek e-bike is similar money so actually this looks like good value to me. I’ll stick with my titanium gravel bike - which cost me a few dollars (but don’t tell the missus!)
Very interesting Pete, a lot of cash I suppose! Tesla are apparently bringing out an e-bike which they say will change the world, details are slim at the minute !
good to see some bikes back on the channel...even if i'm a roadie...like the way you're talking to an audience who may not understand bikes like they understand cars. Like most car brands who put their name on a bike, they are selling to their car customers not to mountain bikers....i.e those who have money for the car and like the idea of a bike to go with it. Anyone into riding will know much better ways of getting what they need. Would you buy a car from a Bianchi?
Hello Peter! Bikes are not my expertise at all…I have never owned one! The prices astonish me but the technicals I will leave to your viewing experts. I still cannot imagine why not having mudguards is thought “ cool”….it just looks daft to me but I must keep quiet…I know nothing!!🫣🫣😬😬😬🙂🙂🙂🙂Richard

For that price, I'd expect a heater for winter, two wheel drive, abs, mudguards and stabilizers.😂
😂😂😂
WHAT!! is this a lycra lad enjoying my world of e mountain biking , I thought that never the twain shall meet !!
😂😂😂
this isn't even close to being the "most powerful e-bike in the world"
Hmm, thinks of all the other things £11500 would buy...exotic travel...new kitchen... a week's food shopping 😜
Pretty much!
@@guy3point14 or two or even three much better e-bikes?
it seems its more of a cross country bike, suitable for hard packed tracks slash tar seal. the geometry seems off, the handle bars look awkward. but i would take it for a test ride
I’d have one but for that money I’d probably buy a 2005 BMW M3.
😂😂😂

I agree most car brands don’t do a great job 👍

Aren’t super cars just toys for rich people ?!
Sorry to hear things aren’t great right now. Hope things improve for you 👍
@ Indeed they are, atm from my perspective any vehicle is for rich people as I don't own one 🤔 Thanks Pete, atb David 👌
250w is a sustained figure by law not a maximum.
Many bikes triple that for peak power.
As both a cyclist and petrol head, I wonder when, not if, that all ebikes will be classed like mopeds and require insurance,CBT etc??

I doubt they will because they are pedal assist and the is only until 18mph 👍

I’m not into bikes but I’ve noticed some cost about the same as a decent second hand car now 🤯
Yep 👍
My last bike cost me as much as my 1st car. My last car cost me as much as my 1st house.
Interesting change Ped, who operated the drone….Mrs Ped? Or a Ukrainian soldier from the 414th Unmanned Strike Aviation Regiment? 😉
My mate Mark. One of the best drone pilots I know 👌
Not remotely close to the most powerful e-bike.
Yes most Deliveroo riders are rocking a 3000w Chinese rear hub motor set up😂
You got a case of 'muddy bum' on that ride. Are fenders an option?
You don’t generally fit mud guards on an MTB, especially a full suspension bike. You can get a guard that clips to the seat post or saddle to save your bum. If you look at my bike it has half guards which are also an option.
I'd rather take the trek that mclaren is fugly.
My Trek Fuel (expensive consequence of Cycle Sunday!) is unquestionably a better looking bike than the McLaren to 👍🏻
Thats because its a Haibike with w a McLaren sticker

I'm still bangin about on my Zasker GT, one day I might go for a E bike......not sure I'll stretch to 11.5k though, interesting as it is!
I’d have one in my garage. 11.5k seems a lot but that’s what high end kit is.

Ped, clips for the road, no way at my age on a mountain bike !

I think the Pinion motor with automatic gears has got to be the way forward …always in the right gear and no dangly leg out the back to snap off
Derailleur gear have always been an engineering anomaly 😬👍
And once more here we have some food for the algorithm ;-)
Hi Peds
Hi 👋
Come on bring back cycle Sunday!
Sadly Paul and Richard sold up 😬
Oooh a bike 😊
👍
There must be several cars out there which don't have as much as 190 Nm of torque?
Plenty I would think 👍
Bosch Cx motor produces a peak of 600w and 85nm torque doesn’t it?
👍
Very interesting Pete, a lot of cash I suppose! Tesla are apparently bringing out an e-bike which they say will change the world, details are slim at the minute !
Of course they are and it will no doubt be petty good 👍

It’s about tyre clearance for this kind of bike. On a road bike it’s aero and weight 👍
