Finally the Artists vision on the box cover becomes a reality 36 years later its almost like a screenshot :) One of the finest remakes i have seen in a long time. I wish someone would remake Koronis Rift with the same TLC and quality. simply Amazing !!
Yes! This is amazing, and I'd love to see this love and care taken to Koronis Rift. I wasn't aware of this game, but now that I've watched this I'll have to try it out (and Eidelon!)
Glad to see that the "pregnant pause" between when the pilot stops running and when he knocks (or doesn't, LOL) has been added, along with several other details since the 0.9 alpha version. Great work!
OMG! Fantastic! One of my most favorite games recreated. I have an ATARI 800XL, 65XE and 130XE and I'm playing this game on it. It's been so many years and there is still this thrill. There is no better entertainment! :D Good job! :D
Nice one! Had this on my 800XL back in 85. Love that you kept the IFR. You could literally get around at night and not hit a thing. The two yellow lines over the primary flight displays showing clearance to the sides so you avoid mountains. The radar. The lasers lighting up the sky etc. You’d have thought after all these years - the aliens would learn to knock rather than announce themselves, and only use white helmets :)
Stunning version, i remember playing the Atari version and and feeling that anxiety while waiting for the pilot to knock on the door ( have the original on cartridge). Very well done!
Looking and sounding better than ever! Love that redone music too! I see you've implemented the variable timing on the airlock knock as well - way to amp up the anxiety!
This is a good remake of ROF. Being able to run it at high framerates in 4K and save your game between levels make this the definitive version IMO. I also like the variable pause when the pilot is close to your ship. Just about perfect... the one thing it needs is the Jaggi's wail.
Fantastic update! I've been watching this game's progress for a long time, loving the updated graphics of the ship interior, especially the gauges that now heavily resemble the 8 bit versions. Also, I'm glad to hear that a pause had been added between the point of the footsteps stopping to the knocking/alien attacking. This was the most suspenseful part of the original game for me!
Played this game, a lot, inn 5200 variables, really like the new audio, must make the player even more on edge! Update looks great. Original game did freak me, at moments.
I had the original with my Atari XEGS back in the late 80's and I loved it. Spent many hours playing it. This remake is awesome. Will you be putting the funky sound in when the alien pops up at the window like in the original, like a jump scare sound?
Thanks! Fractalus is built using the Unity engine, which includes a terrain rendering system. Generating the terrain data is done using a combination of a maze generator and the diamond-square algorithm, so while it was complicated it didn't end up being too big a deal to implement
Just found out about this project, via Discord of "Heli Game"! Wow. I do not understand, why it was not on my radar before? I dig "Cockpit Games"(tm), and I am making one myself (UE4, see my channel). Anyway, Thank You for your work! Just downloaded, will fly and shoot :-D
hey how about updating the story just slightly - andser the question - WHY are there so many pilots crashed on this planet? howabout that it's the middle of raging air/space war and so the airspace and orbital regions are filled with battling fighters and capital ships? and you are employed by one of the capital ships as a rescue pilot to pick up downed combatants. so you have to avoid enemy fighters and follow other squadrons in to cover you as you make your pick ups and do your part as CAS on your way in and out. same basic game but with added mechanics and a little bit more backstory to make things make sense.
This is fantastic! One of my most favorite games recreated... I can offer to do a complete soundtrack orchestral re-scoring for free... I know that tune by heart... Contact me if Yes... Anyhow. Congratulations on this achievement. Behing Jaggie Lines AKA Rescue on Fractalus looks awesome.... Thank you
WOW!!! This is so awesome!!! I really enjoyed the original and your remake comes so close. You really did an amazing job. Do you have any plans for 1.1.0? Maybe a more retro looking Title design that may resemble the original more? Or this sound that is played when the Lucasfilm Games Logo shows up. You could incorporate this as well as making your logo more prominent.
Thanks! I've received a number of suggestions for ways to expand a bit on the original game, which I'm considering including in a 1.1 release, but that would be a fair while away. For now I'm focusing on fixing up some issues people have reported with 1.0
Thanks! It runs on Windows, MacOS, Linux, and there's also a Windows VR build that supports Oculus and OpenVR/SteamVR, though a separate controller is required
The ships radar screen is essentially a perfect recreation of the original game, it even preserves the rather low framerate!

Man, I was like 6 when I played this back in time on my Atari 130XE, and completely forgot about this game... lovely!
Important safety tip for this game - after rescuing a pilot, destroy his crashed ship. That way, you get fewer aliens jumping on your windshield.
Of all these older games, _Fractalus_ is probably the one that's most worthy of a remake. I'd love to play this.
Glad to see that the "pregnant pause" between when the pilot stops running and when he knocks (or doesn't, LOL) has been added, along with several other details since the 0.9 alpha version. Great work!
Perfect remake! thanks for this, was great back then, and even better now!

Just downloaded and stumbled my way thru first flight - amazing version and fantastic memories - many thanks and brilliant work.

Good memories!!! Love this!
I didn't know about this project until today. I will never accomplish another days work. EVER.

Oh yeah, those sounds! And the music even!
This is fantastic, can’t wait to play it!
Great work Luke! Now THIS is how you do a remake! Are you listening Square?!
Great Work! Thank you, love this game.
Thank you so much for this great new version! It's such a joy to play this with an Xbox-controller. 💪😎👍
the appearance sound of the aliens is not jump-scary enough. But thanks alot anyway. This is great and a walk back into childhood.
Looks amazing, nice work!

Is the "E" gauge like energy or fuel? I just love sandbox games that feature depleting fuel. It simulates real world dilemmas.
I wonder if you have done more UE projects after this one? ;-)
You did an awesome job recreating the atmosphere! What 3D engine did you use and was it a big deal to get a proper terrain engine working ?
Thanks! Fractalus is built using the Unity engine, which includes a terrain rendering system. Generating the terrain data is done using a combination of a maze generator and the diamond-square algorithm, so while it was complicated it didn't end up being too big a deal to implement

yeaaaaaah! ;) thank You....
atmospheric landscape... however, without alien pilots, this should not be called version 1.0.0
The alien pilots are implemented, but not shown in the video. That's left as a surprise for when you encounter them for the first time :)
@@lsdwa I can't wait to meet the new Jaggi !
;-)
@@lsdwa nonono, I don't want to encounter them any more! what a nightmare!

Linux version performs well on Steam Deck with the Very High graphics setting.
This looks awesome!! I want to play. What platform does it run on?

@@lsdwa I must have a play of this. Such a fabulous game back in the day and this version looks gorgeous.
