If they’ve been planning for this since they first got here, then I wish they would have traded Hunter when Kirk went down with the achilles so they would have had the extra second round pick and a better draft position. That immensely changed how much they have to pay AND who they can can actually take now.
Exactly. That's why I think he's not being completely truthful. IF they had been planning this in THIS specific draft, he would have traded Hunter. He didn't, so...
Not like GMs don't lie all the time, but why make up a lie about tracking this QB class "for years" out of the blue. That was a volunteered statement no one actually expected.
Agreed and I don't think most fans would have been mad since JJ wasn't healthy either. Instead we tried to limp into the playoffs with Mullens, Dobbs, and Hall when we knew the QB class coming up in the next draft.
Yeah it makes no sense to not make moves while they sat below .500. It makes even less sense to give Kirk Cousins a no trade clause and spend 28.5million of this years cap just so you could have him last season if you were so set on the 2024 QB class as the spot where you start building your championship team
It makes sense if KOC wasn’t in agreement with the plan. The way Hall was handled speaks to gross incompetence or sour grapes in not in agreement with the plan to move on from Cousins.
I think Hunter had a no trade clause in one year contract so he was going to be a free agent. Now, they could have traded him in 2022 but he didn't he have one of the best seasons of his career in 2023? He was great player for being a latter rnd pick.
Matt another great episode
Well, if you like multiple QBs stay where you are and draft whomever falls to you at 11 and then grab a defensive player at 23.
I agree. Bo Nix seems like a KOC guy. From the play style, the aesthetic, and the way they talk lbs. I think he'd be a solid get at 11. There's still very good options at 23 for defense or IOL.
I wonder if anyone at press conference sense that Kwesi could already have a handshake agreement with a team to trade up? Its impossible to know how many phone conversations he's had but it would make sense if we know which QB'a we prefer before 11.
The quote I heard about JJ and not having a lot of opportunity in the Michigan offense is, “ The an absence of evidence is not the evidence of absence.”
That is an awesome GM comment pre draft😂 I mean what? Well done Sir.
The life raft analogy: it’s not desperation, it’s supply and demand. When supply is low and demand is higher you now have a commodity that’s price is in play.
I feel like no one is catching on to Kwesi when he said they completed the process… they have their list set. It’s just figuring out how to land their guy.
Cheers Skoldiers....👍
Kwesi said that they wouldn't divulge how many franchise QBs were in the draft because it could force them to pay more to move up for one of them, doh Kwesi you just told them. Kwesi needs a lesson on negotiating a trade, he should be selling the value of the two picks they have in a very deep draft. They should fly a flag saying that they will pay any price for a franchise QB, four firsts and Christian Darrisaw sure no problem. Kwesi sound like making a trade as bad as the Herschell Walker trade would be worth it to get a QB. The two firsts should be enough to get McCarthy the 2025 pick could be valuable since Sam Darnold's career stats looks eerily similar to Nick Mullins stats they could be looking at a top ten pick.
Kwesi is Going to Nail it this Draft...I just have to keep my faith in Him, Untill proven otherwise....
Kwesi stinks at drafting
If the Vikings think Penix will be there at 23, then what are you going to say if the Raiders or someone else drafts him before 23. I can imagine the rumblings but this is mute if we can trade up.
It’s hard for me to believe all the JJ Hype from watching college football but if we get him Hope he’s good and not just an Average game Manager like I thinks he gone be.
No guarantees but smart people/Kwesi do not give up a ton of draft capital to jump to PK 4 when you can get QB4 at pk 11 probably. and maybe get him in the 20s. Lesson QB 4 is normally a 2nd rd pk.
If you give up the whole farm for McCarthy you are going to only get a half a farm in return...🤣🤣🤣
It was a funny moment when I believe it was Chip Scoggins? asked Kwesi what QB they like more than others... Kwesi had to tell the old journalist, sorry can't give you that information. What a dumb question to ask the GM. Kwesi later explained, that info will make my job harder. Can't believe Chip gets a salary for his "skills".
I think McCarthy will take 2 plus years to develop. Then, I'm not even sure what you get at that point. Maybe KOC is going to turn his offense into a running team...🤣🤣🤣
Why are people so easily throwing the 2025 1st into trades going up from 11 into the top 5???
That trade would dwarf the compensation SF gave up to go from 12 to 3. Also there are exactly 3 teams that could threaten MN for a trade up for QB. NYG/DEN/LV. NYG have the edge due to slot and DEN/LV would have to throw in an insane offer to compete with 11 + 23.
Agree. I mean QB 4 is Pennix or JJ. I hope someone reaches for JJ at pk 1-2-3 and Vikings can get Maye or Daniels at 4 or 5 for Pk11 & Pk23. If instead teams start picking elite DEs & QBs then QBs 4 and 5 start tumbling down the board. It’s poker. I hope we play well.
I'm with Kurt Warner, I just love me some Bo Nix.
Cannot stress how bad of a mickey mouse offense Oregon has
My take on Kwesi is the same as he exhibited in his first draft: He's a HORRIBLE negotiator. It's almost like he thinks, "Hey, we're all NFL GMs, we're here to help each other out." Nope. Every other GM is trying to stab him in the back and steal his draft picks and players; and he isn't even wearing body armor. I think he's too nice, too open, and not suspicious enough of his fellow GMs. Gotta be kind of an a-hole to be a good GM. Kwesi isn't one of those.
I can feel this. It was certainly true out of the gates as his first trade he got absolutely fleeced. Trading down 20 spots in the first round for the equivalent value of a 3rd round pick was insane. It would have been a fair trade if we hadn’t given back a 2nd. One of the worst trades I’ve ever seen.
And then the interview bit him in the ass.
Since then, I think he is becoming a bit tougher and more savvy. Guy is still young and could continue to develop the necessary edge. So, yeah, while I appreciate his friendliness with the media, I hope he is has a different persona when negotiating with other GMs.
Trading 3 1st for JJ is a terrible idea
Tough criticism on Pennix due to title game. JJ had almost no completions vs Ohio State and had far less completions & yards than Pennix. JJ had only 10 completions in title game. Tough to draft a 1st rd QB pk with those two games. JJ Was a non factor.
Imagine giving up the farm for a Franchise QB and he sadly gets injured? The top QBs on the board don't strike me as Patrick Mahomes, Joe Burrow, or CJ Stroud material. I'd pick the best on the board. Kwesi was involed with Baker Mayfield being picked at Cleveland right? To be fair, Baker had twice the heart of Cousins. But sadly he got hurt too eventually.
Cousins had no heart? Clueless.
That guy, until the Achilles took so much punishment and STILL put the ball on the money.
He played injured without complaining or taking a game off until he just couldn't play with the Achilles.
He's the toughest QB and possibly toughest player in the NFL.
He brought the team back more times than almost anyone only to have the defense give it away time and again.
He holds the Redskins, Vikings, and NFL records for largest comeback in history.
Had he not been hurt and had he stayed with the Vikings he would have been the best QB in their history passing Tarkenton in yards and TDs.
Again, you're clueless.
Cousins had a ton of heart. He is also an anxious dude that could lose track of things in big moments. He would clench up that jaw and stare down the rush when overwhelmed. He became robotic and would take what the defense gave him, letting them dictate the offense rather than attacking them.
His inabilty to overcome adversity and win off script are why he will never be more than a good, solid NFL starter. But the guy is tough as nails and plays with heart.
Also, nobody knows who will be the next great QB. Stroud and Mahomes weren’t the first QBs selected in their class. What a strange point you are trying to make.
@@usa91787 Cousins didnt work Tuesdays Cousins doctored the netflix documentary which he had say on what was presented in it to immediately throw it out as an excuse for why he didnt do things he was expected to do before we even got to week 4 last season. Cousins settled for 2 yards on 4th and 8 because he cares more about his meaningless box stats than about trying to win.
Thats what is meant here by heart and Kirk lacked it.
Sacks are a QB stat, so if Kirk was going to fail to identify where the open guy would be presnap like a good QB getting paid handsomely should do, then he should take a pay cut to get better linemen to make up for his faults, despite him playing the most important position, the only one that can cover up all the other spots on a roster. Instead Kirk just had people point fingers and blame literally everything rom the GM down to the kicker instead of ever taking responsibility, because again, he didnt have the heart for it.
McCarty throws to hard when he doesn't need too. He lacks touch and it is completely ignored. Maye is way better and it isn't even close. He has been doing it two years. McCarthy went from 3rd round to top 5 based on 10 passes in one game. What a Joke. My evaluators I trust list dropped significantly. Praying the Vikings don't buy into that garbage.
Wait, what? Maye is the guy with inconsistent accuracy. McCarthy had some struggles on the boundary go routes but still was around 50% on deep passes - which is good.
Where Maye absolutely breaks is under pressure. His YPA tanks while also completing less than 50% of his passes. Guy doesn’t have the it factor and plays small in big moments. McCarthy is the opposite and has almost no dropoff in YPA while still completing 63% under pressure. He shines in pressure moments and clearly has that moxie and level headedness that raise his floor and his ceiling over Maye.
I’d still be excited if the Vikings get Maye. As a top four guy in this draft, he still offers a lot more hopium than Darnold. But I’d be a lot more anxious about the bust potential with Maye than with McCarthy.
I love how everyone falls in love with these draft season catch phrases like “a first this year is worth more than a first next year.” Hate to break it to everyone, but the Giants first round pick next year is worth WAY more than the 23rd overall pick this year. The Giants are almost certainly picking in the top 10 next year with a strong possibility of drafting in the top 5. Daniel Jones or a rookie will be under center for them with absolutely no talent on either side of the ball. If i were Arizona or LA, that’s the pick i want to negotiate for.
You don’t know where the Giants will be picking next year.
It will 100% be higher than 23. They have no talent and daniel jones as their starting qb lol
