I would have been really pissed,if thed been the Rivet counter.FFS...takes me back to the 80s,replacing all the X2F couplers!! All the technology & accuracy, these days,& cant get something like the EFFN couplers right!! A little late, now,I guess.Emailed Scaletrains, but,no response,No surprises there, either. Cheers Michael
I picked up a couple of these last winter but don't have a layout built or DCC track yet to test with. Did you figure out whether these have the ground light? How do you like the bass off the sugar cubes on these? Also for your viewers that may not know. DON'T risk running a Scale trains DCC on DC, even though they advertise as compatible. I lost two Lok 5 decoders before I discovered the problem.
These do not have operating ground lights. The sugar cubes are they best out there. The horn and bell could definitely use more bass. I agree with you about running DCC decoders on DC track. That's something I never do even if they advertise it
Did Scaletrains make a new run for this Dash 9? I just saw this video is 3 years old. I was also wondering if you would recommend the Scaletrains or the Athearn Genesis2.0 Dash 9 Norfolk Southern?
Fantastic review! Got all the info I needed. My only nitpick is that I did not hear the air compressor “whoop” sound. Wish that was included, but I’ll probably program it in once I get it. Cheers!
I agree, I ended up programming a different sound file. I think Scaletrains might have fixed that issue. You will have to let me know after you get yours.
DG Modelworks After this video I found your update video. Great job on the sound file! I’m happy ST managed to help you out with the parts. I’ll update you when I receive mine.
Scaletrains hit a home run on the D9's. I hope they do all of the road number ranges, the white face units and as delivered paint schemes. Athearn as was hinted to me stated they will be offering a true D9 in various configurations also. Also NS rebuilds will be made. That's a wait and see if.
HA. Athearn will never make their locomotives like the ScaleTrains versions. Athearn hardly puts any weight onto their locomotives. I'm glad these guys finally brought the bar up, now these halfass companies can start putting more effort into it.
My jesus. You are the only person I have ever seen to have any problems from their scaletrains locomotives. Its literally every video of a scaletrains locomotive. something is broken. But i have never seen any other videos of this or any i have seen in person....

Awesome! Thank you very much! Other than those couple missing parts, this is a fantastic model! Do you happen to know if the ESU powerpack is functional from the factory? Thanks again for the speedy response and customer service!
@@DGModelworks Hey there, the ESU Power Pack is included from the factory with sound-equipped models. Depending on how long the locomotive is operated before being removed from the track, the Power Packs should keep the locomotive functioning for 2-3 seconds once removed. To answer your question on if the Number boards and walkway lights are remap-able to become independent of the Prime mover/ F8 key? Yes they are I have the same locomotive as seen in the video and one of the Tier 4s from ScaleTrains. The number boards by default are on Aux3 on both the Tier 4 and the dash 9 the walk way lights on the Dash 9 are on Aux 4 by default. It's just a matter of swapping them to a different function key and rewriting the data if you have a Lokprogrammer? I like to use F-14 for my Aux lighting functions. On my dash 9 and Tier 4 I did add the step and Ground lights. On my dash 9 I put them on Aux 8. and added a unique feature as well I have lit display screens on Aux7 and they're programmed to come on with F8. My Tier 4 only has walkway lights and ground lights and I put them on Aux9. So really to answer the above questions all it takes is a few minutes of remapping where you would like your lights to come on with whichever key and rewriting the decoder data of course. Hope this helps?
Hey man, you're right. Sometimes there are issues even on locomotives that are not as detailed. I've had the same exeriences you've had with other manufactures. In the end, it's okay. I've been pretty lucky here lately. Bad luck has ran on me my whole life. In this industry, I kind of figured out what to expect. Thanks for the review 👍
Nathan I bought the BLI Rolling Thunder subwoofer kit and honestly I feel its pretty gimmicky. Its sort of cool but the WI-FI range is pretty short. After about 6' or so the sound just fades away. I was a little dissapointed. They rattle on like its the second coming but I dont think so. I am not dising them but I think this unit and also the lightening and thunder is pretty goofy.
Ground lights are usually under the cab but above the lead truck. I'm not sure if it's is supposed to be on both sides or just one. I'm also not sure if they come on when the locomotive is moving or stopped or both
I have noticed with the sb5 hooked up I don't seem to get the keep alive that you're talking about but with just the nce power cab hooked up it seems to work
Now that you mention it, you are right. It never did. Hmm.... Not sure why it didn't. I'm going to have to connect this thing to my Lokprogrammer and see what's going on. There are a couple other things that need to be addressed. The bell, the powerpack, etc.
It stood out to me the air compressor sound I notice it because my Compressor was going off all night because my conductor Did not know how to change a gasket on the marker correctly. But Scaletrains has a good customer service they should be able to rectify any problems. Keep us posted

@@DGModelworks Yes it will suck but you don't necessarily need the programmer itself don't get me wrong it is a handy tool to have but.
