The idea that anyone could learn 7 different languages in one year, simply by taking a TEFL, is the joke.

I'm American and I adore Catherine Tate. Saw her first in Doctor Who and have been a fan ever since, trying to see everything/anything she's been in. She's incredibly funny, but also such a talented actress. She can make me laugh, and she can make me cry in the best of ways.

The main part of this joke is her assurance that she can do it because she did a 'TEFL in her gap year.' The people who do that are the target of the joke. But I don't think anyone outside of the UK will understand what any part of that sentence means, lol. I've yet to see a reactor even ask what she meant. 😂

@Geoff Wheadon - I happened to stumble upon Coupling one night while channel surfing, we get BBC America. OMG! LOVE the first 2 seasons and most of the 3rd. The 4th season was lacking. The Oliver character was a flop! The Jeffrey character was the best. The U.S. tried to replicate Coupling, it BOMBED horribly and rightfully so, it was an abomination. We did much better with The Office [I didn't watch, it wasn't my cup O' tea.
