Take a look inside my sketchbook…

- I’m coming to the end of one of my sketchbooks. Before it gets tucked away on a shelf, I thought it’d be cool to show you some of its pages. After all, the point of this vlog is to inspire, and you might want to try making a book like this, too! I use this book to keep in touch with what lights me up. I might not get to the studio every day, but at least something surprising can happen within these pages.
Take a look!
Some pages are better than others, but working in this sketchbook keeps me connected to my visual language and regular art practice. Many of these pages influence my larger paintings!
Do you have a practice on the side of your regular art-making that keeps you connected? Let me know in the comments.
On this week’s episode of the Art2Life Podcast, I’m talking about objectivity. We all have an emotional investment in our work, but on the flip side, we need to bring objectivity to our work so it’s more relatable and connects with others. Join me this Wednesday as I share different ways to apply objectivity to your practice.

Thanks for showing us your sketchbook! You reminded us that sometimes we don't get to work full-time on our paintings, but by daily sketching a bit in our book, we don't lose the essence or memory grains of those ideas floating in our inner universe.
Thank you so much for this! MORE, please! Sketchbooks are the seeds for further inspiration not only for yourself but your fellow artists as well. Love what you're doing! ❤
I love your book and how you've incorporated art on the left and days/notes on the right! Suddenly it all makes sense, I think I can do this kind of thing! Thanks for everything Nick
I love this so much thanks for sharing!
Sooo enjoyable to watch & listen….& so much learnt, fascinating , fabulous & helpful.
BUT I do find the throwing out of unused paint a tad painful!
Hey Nic.. I love the my junk Art journal. I put pieces of my art in there. And positive quotes. Pictures of all kinds. I paint, & meditate with whatever I love. I play.
I skip around. No rules. I also leave it open so paint pages or paint pens dont stick together. I keep a candle around that I rub onto my finished pages. Just rub dry candle wax over it. No stick! Thx Nic!😅
Super inspirational! Thank you for sharing!
That is incredible, beautiful! I feel inspired by that. A lot to think about what you're doing there.
This was a delight. Thank you for sharing your daily process. I like your comments able exercising your visual language.
Because my practice involves work in fiber I crate small samples using various techniques. Sometime the stay as one offs and other times the trigger more development. Because they are of a 3D nature they don’t fit into a book so I find that small boxes become the depositories for similar elements.
Love watching this, sharing this is very inspiring. I have a few sketchbooks in different sizes, small, square and very small. Love practicing and playing in these sketchbooks, even if it’s only ten minutes 👍🏼♥️
Thanks for sharing your journal. Lovely.
Looks great Nick! Really like the one you did today.
Oh wow. I really loved this more than I thought I would. I am so critical of my own version of this. Seeing yours and loving it exactly the way it is, this will make me see my own with new eyes! I am in your group on FB. Thank you for how much you give to us for free. It helps me so much just to be connected with other Artists.
Thank you for sharing your sketchbook Nicolas. So beautiful that you open your heart❤.
Thank you for sharing!! Love seeing inside your sketchbook! Would love to see more!!!
thank you, really inspiring! I'm always a mess documenting my own process and sketches.
Really liked seeing your journal; I have been gluing or taping my painting ideas in my sketchbook after making them on a piece of paper, and drawing or doodling directly. Today, I will try painting directly, which seems intimidating to me for some reason!
Yes, your comment struck me as I also have not painted directly into a sketchbook .....I'm far too precious about it... I can see I need to alter that!
4:41 I like the weird one. This video has so much allowance in it. Thanl you for showing it! 🙏🏽
This is similar to the one I just started. You also have some great ideas I will incorporate thank you.
Thanks for sharing! I work in more than one everyday ❤
Such a good dopamine fix!! Very inspirational. I am going out and getting a new fresh sketch book and emulate your practice. I am stalled and it will be a good way to break it. As always thanks for sharing!!!💜💜💜
Thank you for sharing. It is so motivational. Love, CVP.
Loved it!
Looks like a Bullet Journal brand and you are using the heck out of it for mediums that looks great = really enjoyed your video.
buy a box of deli wraps and cut them down to page size, this will keep your pages from sticking together.
What camera do you use?
What is Objective is Subjective. What is Subjective is Objective. This is Non-duality (Osho). 🙏🏻😊
