    Thanks Brian, this is just the review I was looking for! Few reviewers really get into the manual vs turbo question. I was all set to replace my ‘19 MX-5 with a Mazda3 turbo, but now? I’m going with this manual! (Now comes the hard part… finding one!)

      You’ll miss your mx5 for sure but Mazda 3 is so much better as far as a daily driver. It’s softer, more spacious, less cabin noise including rattles, and it feels much more premium so it actually feels more stable on higher speeds (less road noise). I hope I can get a Mazda 3 hatch without needing to get rid of my mx5 nd2… We’ll see…

      @@DaveReynolds-y3v 18 years since my original Mazda 3. Been driving a 2022 Mazda 3 186 bhp for the past couple of years and about to get the updated version :). My 2005 Mazda was good but the interior wasn't nearly as comfy and flash as the modern version. And if I remember rightly it had less legroom too. I kind of wanted to swap to a different car this year just for a change but after doing some research I couldn't find one that is as good as Mazda 3 in that size/price range. And some of the rivals are more expensive AND worse. Also I'm a music fanatic and apparently the Mazda hi-fi is the best so that is a big influence on my choice.

Great to have a reviewer who really appreciates the aspect of unobtrusive technology and that intimacy of the driver car interface via a manual gearbox. I have thise version of the car, and I like it, but I'd love if it had some more power.
    The engine is aftually very nice, you just need to rev it in order to extract the power from it. It's actually fantastic to rev a car like this to 6500 rpm and only then reach peak power, unlike the turbos which run out of steam much sooner.
    In the corners, if you're a decent driver, you'll keep up with much more powerful cars in this. On the straights you can't, but it really is a joy to drive on a twisty road.

    • @lukewalker1051
      @lukewalker1051 Месяц назад +1

      @@joeyschmoey9138 Very true. Plus, we know that L15B7 1.5L Honda turbo engine to have a very small design margin. Those that have turned up the boost, many times end up with exploded engines. Its a garden tractor motor with crappy cast pistons and connecting rods to conserve cost with very small turbo and better not turn up the wick. Further, and another reason I don't own the Civic Si is the awful rev hang. 3 cars that don't have this quality are big brother Honda Civic Type R, Subaru WRX and Elantra N. Honda Si has about the worst rev hang in the industry and they slow the throttle body closure for emissions aka CAFE...emission per vehicle X's no. of vehicles sold....in stark contrast to the Type R which is sold in much lower volume and hence can afford higher emissions of faster throttle closure. A disgrace.
      However, the Civic platform is wonderful. Steering is best in class and the Civic Si has a much better gearbox compared to the Mazda3. I prefer the styling and interior space of the Civic Si as well and I like the seats and utility. I asked Brian's interpretation as he has driven both and he hasn't responded. Car to get is the Type R but many don't believe its worth the extra $17K over the Si. Most prefer the Honda badge to the Elantra N. Honda and Toyota have been making more mistakes in recent years. Both their V6's have recalls and of course there was the oil dilution issue with L15 Honda motor we are discussing here.
      No clear cut winner. The WRX is ugly as sin. Subaru improved the driveline which is really quite decent now but destroyed the aesthetic of the car.
