- In this, the first drum book he has written, music legend Steve Gadd presents a series of rudimental passages inspired by his time in drum corps and love of the rudiments. Each exercise is based on a classic or contemporary rudiment. It’s then displaced by starting on different subdivisions of the beat. This creates new rhythms without changing the sticking. All of the solos are written in a way that reinforce the understanding and importance of phrasing.

Plays the drums AND has a part in Trailer Park Boys! Fantastic 👏
Brilliant! So clean and solid. I love this kind of practical approach to the drums, learning the essentials, such as rudiments, and finding creative applications for them on the drums. It's old school, but when it's done well (like this), I wouldn't trade it for all the chops in the world. This book is on my radar, no doubt.
Pat not only has great hands, but his feel is super nice as well. How can you not like his playing to this from Steve's book.
Awesome Pat! I love you how you played this so smoothly and then applied these rudiments to the drumkit. Very well done.
Miss you on drumeo Pat. You should of been one of the coaches on their new coaches section. Your wealth of knowledge exceeds most teachers.
Let them know 🙏🏻👍
I love it! Thanks so much for posting this and the inspiration!
Perfectly orchestrated
Very nice
Amazing
Awesome! It's way easier to hear (and read) the phrasing when you play it on the kit! Greetings from Morehead!
Bravissimo

Great video, but how are the Kitties?
What is the name of this book from Steve Gadd? Your drumming is so sweet to the ear
Gaddiments.
Hi sounded good!
I’m newbie to drums, is this book intermediate or advanced? I already own the classic Stick control book, is that good enough or should I just start with Gaddiments instead?
not sure why displacement is so tough for me. The concept makes sense but counting and playing it throws me off.
You're not the only one; that's what makes this book so good. To me, the first challenge is moderate - getting the sticking and accents in the correct place. The second challenge I believe is the hardest, FEELING a phrase with its original, NON-displaced intent -regardless of where it lies against the beat. You can have an exercises down cold - mechanically correct - but can you hear and reconcile the mental independence? This book will be keeping musical drummers busy for a long time.
Learn to feel the accent on the second sixteenth note
you have to be aware of where the beat is at all times. Its tough.
It would be great of you could count while you play so we can hear the accents in relation to the meter.
et donc..
That’s “Legend of the one eyed sailor” shit, no?
Sorry but that doesn’t sound it sounds like you are doing the flam taps on the downbeat and they are actually played on the upbeats the E’s and A’s
He got so old!!
Everyone gets old. Just wait. Old is a state of mind.
And so have you.
