    Watch out for the watches with unique finishes though, those jeweler’s clothes can strip the finishes off. I learned that hard way when accidentally stripped my fountain pen finishes (yes, they can be use to clear scratches from resin fountain pen too).

      Good tip! Yeah, especially any plated finish (plated gold, etc)

      @@ChronometerCheckIndeed, the plated finishes can be stripped off rather easily by the jeweler’s cloth, especially gold.

    It is possible to polish a mineral crystal, but it will be much easier, faster and much cheaper to just replace it

    • @ChronometerCheck
      @ChronometerCheck  8 месяцев назад +1

      Yeah, technically you can use various polishing rogues and such to polish it but it's quite difficult

    • @adk7962
      @adk7962 8 месяцев назад +2

      Yup. I took me over an hour to lessen, not even remove, a pretty serious scratch on my Seiko Hardlex. Although it did remove most of it.

      @ChronometerCheck Polywatch does, in fact, offer a kit specifically for mineral crystal, which I actually used on a 90s-era Seiko (Hardlex? Possibly). Yes, it took more care and concentration, but amazingly it worked.

    I just use turtle wax car polish on my acrylic crystals. Works like a charm. You could use it on other parts but the Brillo pad is better and quicker also never polish a vintage watch. Acrylic crystals are ok though.

    Caution everyone⚠️!
    When doing the brushing with the pad, be VERY VERY careful not to ruin the direction even a bit. Or else it looks like your watch just got a million more scratches. And also, the brushing still won't have the type of finishing it would have if it were done by a machine.

    The clasp on my Seamaster has superficial but wide scratches, also its a kind of light brushed finish, any recommendations?

    You don't need to replace the crystal. You just need to use cerium oxide to polish it.

    • @FullFart

      Scratches on the bracelet/clasp is pretty much impossible to not get, keeping it scratch free would mean polishing maybe once a week. Its better to leave it imo
