If KISS and Parliament/Funkadelic had toured as a double headliners in ‘78-‘79 that might have been amazing. I’d definitely pay top dollar to see that at that time.
Nailed it. Having grown up in the 60's and 70's, I can attest 1978 was the year KISS started rebranding themselves. There was a huge social divide between what kids liked and what their older brother or sister would like when it came to music. KISS was always that band that fought for legitimacy because of their outfits. What helped early was it gave them a very edgy look. The musical breakthrough gave them cred for a short period of time. But as soon as they hugged the commercial side of their image that catered to toys, dolls, and superhero like images, they were completely exposed and their expiration date was sealed. No one in the industry took them serious again. And like most bands that live in a bubble of people telling them what they want to hear, they were the last ones to figure that out. That's why they continued to make more and more bad choices.
Man, I really enjoyed this! Eddie Trunk talked about it today, so I watched it tonight. I’m a KISS fanatic and I enjoyed this a ton. I’m in my 40s, so I discovered KISS in the 80s. Everything in the 70s has been a “go back and discover” era for my and is my favorite era. Can’t wait for the next 2!

I absolutely loved this series. Seriously, fantastic job. Thank you, Catboy, for putting this all together. You nailed it. The catnip intermission was gold 😂❤
Amazing how you're asking the same questions I asked roughly 45 years ago when I watched "KISS Meets The Phantom Of The Park". Great detailed explanation of how KISS fell from grace during the 1980s. For me as a KISS fan since my teens, it was a walk down memory lane in some parts of your video.
To me, Gene's "See You Tonite" and "Radioactive", Paul's "It's Alright" and "Hold Me Touch Me", Ace's "New York Groove" and "Speeding Back To My Baby", and Peter's "Easy Thing" are the best songs from the 1978 solo albums. Gene's was and is my big favorite, despite most people's scorn of it.
I'm a big KISS fan, first record ever given to me was RnR Over so KISS WAS...a big deal. Your dive gave some knowledge I did not have which is cool. Your take on the solo albums isn't wrong, Paul had a decent album but Aces was insanely great. The movie was iffy at best and your Scooby-Doo reference nailed it.. I shall wait for part 2.
I was/is a huge kiss fan (original members only) and I have been since 1977. I had the dolls, posters, and everything Kiss. You sir, did a heck of a job with this documentary. Well done!!
Unbelievable work you have done here about kiss in 1978… I first saw them and put Michigan September 1975. My 1978 I had long move past them… Those first three years were excellent…

Hey, man, it's all good - with a career as varied and storied as KISS', everyone's bound to have a different view of their work! Appreciate you for sticking around regardless 😀
Very, very insightful. Great job, man. Especially how they repackaged previous product into “Double Platinum.” As a 60 year old kiss fan I found this to be very accurate! Kudos!
The COTN album and tour was poorly promoted, it lacked the paid-media hype which preceded the Love Gun and Dynasty tours. COTN is arguably their heaviest album of all time, and the COTN show and setlist is now regarded as one of the most regrettably missed by KISS fans worldwide.
I saw that tour, you didn't miss anything. It was promoted as though Ace was still in the band. Imagine our supreme disappointment when saw and heard that clown Vincent instead.
Best documentation I've seen to date. A lot of new info delivered in a very honest and unbiased way. 5 star 🌟 rating. I agree about the band doing a live weird concert movie based on how awesome they were at that time.. They were on fire as a live band and it probably would have motivated them to capture some great footage. 👍
I saw it 5 times at the cinema in Australia. It was KISS in the Attack of the Phantoms. Before it they would show the 2 videos from Dynasty which was brand new at the time. They were great to see on the big screen.
I remember this in Australia as well. I Was Made for Loving You and Sure Know Something were shown before the movie. I am pretty sure me and a few school mates went to see it more than once.
I watched, for some reason, part2 first and now I'm watching part1. I love it so much how you created this video essay! It's informative (and I thought I knew it all, but no), fascinating and very funny! The joke-timing (music in the background, pauzed silence, screenshot, etc) is just perfect! I can't wait to watch part3!
Just started your 3 part series on KISS and want to say that you did an amazing job. I appreciate the hard work you put forth to do this. Really hope you continue to do other similar series for other groups, it’s extremely entertaining.
Looking back to ‘78 from ‘22 with decades of reflection and revisions on history there is one clear, and important, key missing ingredient and that is the, in the moment experience of what it was like as a fan. We didn’t have access to RUclips or anything besides a teen/music magazine or the occasional newspaper article and the mystique of the band meant we took the image and the music to super heights.
Been a KISS fan since 75.. This is very well put together. Ive listened to all 3 parts several times, and basically lived through the rise and fall of KISS. Both the rise and the fall fascinate me. I loved KISS until about 78-79. Dynasty confused me. Unmasked even further.. The Elder came...and then I was into Van Halen and Iron Maiden. lol. I also love the fact you talk about things honestly...not the Spins that Gene and Paul do...and not the vague memories of Ace, or the whining of Peter.. When I FIANALLY got to see my former heroes live..They had 'secretly' replaced Ace with Vinnie..I was LIVID, because I love Ace's style and his sound. At fist,I thought Vinnie MIGHT be a good fit..After all, I was into Eddie Van Halen's style and tone.. When they took off the makeup, I thought they looked silly. When I first heard 'Lick it Up' I thought it was generic and pedestrian.. I thought they were trying to sound like 'Loverboy'. (And I hated Loverboy). I stayed on the periphery, watching their career from afar.. In 1993, a colleague of mine won tickets to Meet and Greet KISS. 'Revenge ' had just come out. I got to meet G&P, with Bruce and Eric Singer....Gene bought us dinner..I had Chicken Parm..and Paul bitched about the food.. I sang 'Love on the Rocks' to Gene and he was impressed.... Anyway...I think this was a fantastic job you've done with this Magnum Opus.. Thanks for taking me back in time..
Loved this!! Learned a lot of things I never knew and the explanation of the plot of Phantom had me rolling. I almost didn't watch but I'm so glad I did. Can't wait to watch the following parts. Will definitely be sharing with my Kiss friends!! Thanks for all your efforts making this. Highly entertaining.
As a huge Kiss fan for close to 30 years you have no idea how happy finding this video series made me. Such an interesting period in the band's career and I've found very few history videos that dive this deep into it. Great work!
Wow this was a fun adventure and it brought back some awesome memories. When I was a kid I loved Kiss then the solo albums pissed me off .Of course my first solo album was Peter's , a Christmas gift a big flop and lost interest for a year until Dynasty was released. Loved that album and still do. Awesome show bro
Fantastic video! It popped up on my feed and was an instant subscribe! Given that I only have snippets of knowledge about KISS, what I love about this video is that it showed the band as more than just a brand, more than just a commercial entity and a touring franchise. Nice work!
Nice job. Very interesting and insightful doc. Gene Simmons' solo album is a masterpiece in the context of when it was recorded and released. I still listen to it regularly. One of my favorite KISS albums. I also liked The Elder so...a lot after really rediscovering and giving it several spins decades after it's infamous creation. Looking forward to continuing to listen to your very professional documentary. Thanks for the effort.
Of all the Kiss related videos I've viewed on this Tube of You, I find that this one video of yours has managed to be the only one to hold my attention for more than an hour... this thing held me captive throughout the entire 2+ hours... I even went back to the part about Ace's solo album and to the BTS portion of "...Phantom of the Park". Great compilation of facts and opinions. Great voice and delivery. Color me entertained. From a Kiss fan from way back, I applaud you and I feverishly await part two and three.

i remember seeing the solo albums in shrink-wrap in the variety store up until 1983. i bought a good amount of my first LPs there and there'd always be a KISS solo album or two in the bin
I saw them in high school when they toured for Hot in the Shade. They had this cool sphinx thing on stage. The opening acts were Slaughter and a forgotten band called Little Ceaser . Even without makeup they still put on a good show

You did a great job with it. Looking forward to parts 2 and 3!
This was awesome, even my 8 year old daughter was cracking up at the quote accents & hilarious Phantom plot-synopsis. Dead on! Even learned a couple of interesting bits of info I didn't already know, bonus! Great work, a refreshing & genuine take on Kisstory, looking forward to part 2 for sure
Stellar!!!, As a huge KISS fan it's so appreciated to see that someone has done his homework and thoroughly enjoyed your critiques. Thank you so much for such a well done mini documented episode 1, Can't wait for 2 and 3. Thanks again!
If KISS and Parliament/Funkadelic had toured as a double headliners in ‘78-‘79 that might have been amazing. I’d definitely pay top dollar to see that at that time.
Fr 💯💯
That would have been far out
Oh hell yes!
Damn what a marvelous show that would been! 👍
Especially if Ace came on stage in a diaper like the P Funk guy
Nailed it.
Vanilla Ice was accused of selling out. He said “damn straight I sold out.” It’s called the music BUSINESS. The objective is to make $$$.
No dude, in 1978 the mighty Van Halen released their debut album. This changed everything musically.
Which episode did Eddie Trunk talk about this documentary series? Curious to hear what he thought of rezi's videos
WOW!!! This is a masterpiece dude. Your filmmaking and editing skills are top notch. You took a story that has grown stale over the years and put a new, fresh perspective to it. This is just fantastic.
Im so addicted to these. I generally listen to audio on my walks and I've listened to all 3 of these at least 6 times now. It's great history. I would love it if u would do the entire history of kiss deep dive style :) please please please
This is a GOD TIER video essay. Also, the impersonations are adorable!
Thank you so much!!
I absolutely loved this series. Seriously, fantastic job. Thank you, Catboy, for putting this all together. You nailed it. The catnip intermission was gold 😂❤
Well researched, edited, informative and funny af. I love this!!! Please do every single year of Kiss career.
This is the best video I’ve seen in quite some time freaking phenomenal!!
Your impressions of every Kiss member when reading their quotes is spot on.
Nuthin' wrong with Scooby.
Some of the most well-researched stuff for sure. BRAVO!! Your videos are excellent.
I was/is a huge kiss fan (original members only) and I have been since 1977. I had the dolls, posters, and everything Kiss. You sir, did a heck of a job with this documentary. Well done!!
Honestly.......this doc is the best of it's kind I have ever seen........GREAT JOB!
Thank you so much dude!! That means a lot!
meh
Watched all three chapters over the past 24 hrs. Thanks for a colossal amount of entertainment and education!
Unbelievable work you have done here about kiss in 1978… I first saw them and put Michigan September 1975. My 1978 I had long move past them… Those first three years were excellent…
Great writing, great speaking and on-point imitations. Thanks for this one.
I really enjoyed this! I am a music junkie and love watching and learning about bands. Not a huge Kiss fan but I dig Ace really bad and I love rock n roll history 😂👽. Well done. I also have enjoyed reading the comments, I learned a lot from them as well. It’s making laying around recovering from surgery rather enjoyable.
Been a fan since '78'😂 this documentary is without a doubt one of the very best out there....awsome story and produced with great professionalism and flow... Thanks dude for the upload... Really enjoyed every minute🤘
Bro. The impersonations are spot on. This is really a well done video
So much work went into this--good job Rezi!!!
liked and commented for the algo :)
Thanks my duuuuuuuude
This is really great. I've been a fan of KISS since the late 70's and love how detailed this is.
My advice to you bro is to keep heading in this direction, you will see such huge growth doing content like this. This is executed beautifully and I know that if you’re heading in this direction I will stick around and subscribe
I don't necessarily agree with all perspectives here....but enjoyed this immensely!!
Thank you!! Looking forward to the next video!!
Hey, man, it's all good - with a career as varied and storied as KISS', everyone's bound to have a different view of their work! Appreciate you for sticking around regardless 😀
@@reziorenji for this comment you leave me no other choice ...Subscribed.
Pouring money into promo was not going to save the band at that point
I saw that tour, you didn't miss anything. It was promoted as though Ace was still in the band. Imagine our supreme disappointment when saw and heard that clown Vincent instead.
this is brilliantly done
Thanks so much, man!! Appreciate it!!
I agree! So much inside info I never heard before and I own most of their biographies. Especially the way the solo albums were explained.
This is amazing! You put a lot of work in that! Thank you!!!
Peter's voice in Phantom was groovy🤘 thanks again Rezi
Wonder who voiced Anton Fig sounds like a cool guy. 😎
Was fun doing something like that, damn good video as well and thanks for the opportunity.
Lol thank you so much for the voiceover!! Glad you enjoy the vid!!
This whole series is so good, thank you so much for all the work you put into making them, I've never enjoyed a deep dive into a band more
I loved how you read each one of the alive album notes as one of the personas. That gave me a genuine laugh.
Awesome doc! Looking forward to episodes 2 and 3. Cheers!!
Awesome job! Really enjoyed your insights into the solo albums, especially Ace.
Very detailed video! I love the graphics you used!! Really creative!! I am also a huge KISS fan!! Keep this up! This is really cool!!
Flawless, haunting and intense, Destroyer - 1976, one of the ten best rock albums ever.
You hit the nail on the head. Very true.
and this is why they still exist in 2022. Adding to this, thank you for bringing back wonderful memories.
@@ryanruberry6658 with the comment you leave-----that is Twice the nail has been hit on the Head
I would LOVE to see you talk about the KISS no makeup era. Your video here is incredible. Really hope this series goes further.
Enjoyed this video my mom was a big Kiss fan since she was 9 seeing them live. Happy to say she passed it on to me. Great video.
You lost me at "Gene bought us dinner"😂
@@BadWolf762 oh he quibbled with the PR guy, about it. “Mercury better pay me back” kinda thing.
Amazing deep dive!! Thank you for taking the time to do all this work….can’t wait for part 2!!!!!
Fantastic video! It popped up on my feed and was an instant subscribe! Given that I only have snippets of knowledge about KISS, what I love about this video is that it showed the band as more than just a brand, more than just a commercial entity and a touring franchise. Nice work!
This is great 👍 just wanted to add that “Phantom of the park” was released theatrically here in Australia 🇦🇺
I went to Magic Mountain MANY times during that era. I only lived an hour away. God, how I miss the 70's & 80's! Great video!
Fantastic! Really enjoyed this!! Looking forward to parts 2 & 3!!!🤘
I'm not a Kiss fan but this is one heck of a documentary. Well worth the sub.
The BEST ever coverage of the Solo Albums ever., especially Ace's.
Great video! I watched the whole video in one sitting. Rock and Roll Over is my favorite Kiss album. I look forward to the next episodes. Great work!
This was very well done dude, keep up the good work! I can't wait to see the other parts^^
Love the effort put into this deep dive! The impressions, the context given for the music, it's all so great! Also glad to see there's another appreciator of "Under the Rose" :)
Been a KISS fan from 74. Saw KISS on the Mike Douglas show and my parents were watching and they were shocked. I saw their faces , I was HOOKED !
The second time I made a mistake watching one of these 2+ hour deep dives at 2am. May as well make a cup of hot tea- I’m gonna be up for a while…. These are SO GOOD.
Okay.... this video is..... fantastic! Listen to those voice imitations! Shit ton of work went into this. Respect.
KISS Meets the Phantom is fun, surreal and just like a Scooby Doo adventure but with KISS. Can't imagine life without it.
You did a amazing job with this video! as a KISS fan from 1974 this video was done honestly and very entertaining.
Your style is really unique and adds to the flow of the video. Not once was i even sort of bored or
did i lose interest in what is coming next.
Same. They could do no wrong
The narration is fantastic.
i remember seeing the solo albums in shrink-wrap in the variety store up until 1983. i bought a good amount of my first LPs there and there'd always be a KISS solo album or two in the bin
Great content..nice job on the breakdown of various tracks.. background music done well...and the editing solid..great video bro
Your choice of
clothes -dresser and pillow cases is absolutely Stellar 💯
I saw them in high school when they toured for Hot in the Shade. They had this cool sphinx thing on stage. The opening acts were Slaughter and a forgotten band called Little Ceaser . Even without makeup they still put on a good show
You talked about things that were actually fresh and interesting, never rehashing the same stories we all already know by heart. I'm looking forward to listening to Part 2 & 3 now. 🤘🤘
Stumbled across your channel and sure glad I did. I subscribed! The way you tell a story and keep it interesting for 2 hours is amazing. You are talented, funny and very knowledgeable.
Oh man, this was sooooo friggin awesome.... Thank you so much..brought back a lotta memories....🤘🏻😎💯
Watching this whole thing now. Man, you REALLY put in the work! Looking forward to the other chapters. I've been a Kiss fan since I was a kid in NYC and this vid took me back.
KISS are my favorite band and I've been a lifelong fan since I listened to God of Thunder on the Halloween (2007) soundtrack. I loved your video and it helped fill in some holes I had in regards to some parts of KISStory. I've subbed to your channel. Thank you, kind stranger.
Great video man - I subscribed to your channel so I will get to watch the next installment of THE FALL OF KISS as soon as it's posted - I know how much work it takes to make such a long and in-depth video like this - can't wait for the next one - My band mates and I are all huge KISS fans and I had them all watch it cause I was so impressed - keep up the great work!!!!
Just re-watched this episode after the new one - you've really accomplished something great with these videos. I was there for the fall of KISS, I remember how it all happened in real time, from a young fan's perspective - it was the best/worst of times. Thanks for sharing all your research and talents. Looking forward to the next!
