To add a radio stack like mine -
1. Go to your flight sim install directory
2. Navigate to Microsoft Flight Simulator X\SimObjects\Airplanes\FA-18\Panel
3. Open panel.cfg using Notepad
4. At the top of the file under 'window Titles' add the line window04=Radio Stack
5. Scroll down and under the [window03] section add:
[Window04]
size_mm=159,441
position=8
visible=0
BACKGROUND_COLOR=16,16,16
ident=RADIO_STACK_PANEL
windowsize_ratio=0.5
gauge00=737-400!Comm 1, 0, 0,159, 68
gauge01=737-400!Comm 2, 0, 68,159, 68
gauge02=737-400!Nav 1, 0, 135,159, 68
gauge03=737-400!Nav 2, 0, 203,159, 68
gauge04=737-400!Transponder, 0, 271,159, 68
gauge05=737-400!ADF, 0, 340,159, 68
gauge06=737-400!Audio, 0, 409,159, 32
6. You may need to fiddle around with size_mm and windowsize_ratio to suit your resolution. Хобби
You are Making it complicated bro!!!
Been trying to figure out NAV radios since I installed Steam version 3 days ago. Thank you for the panel mod tip!! :)
When I spawn the f-18 my hud doesnt work and the Autopilot section doesnt work either... In the HUD everything says 0, and The Autopilot section doest do anything at all
how did u get the menu open for frequency
Hello, I know this video is pretty old, but I have trouble finding any ILS tutorial for this aircraft, do you need to set the course, frequency and then click on the CPL button while the ILS option is selected for it to work?
As TS is not responding: you must set CPL always when using the autopilot: in VOR, ILS and GPS mode. You have to set the course also when using ILS. I had the same bug as TS in setting the radio, so I would advise you to add the radio stack.
very good video well done precise I hope you will do more !
Subscribed and will learn this later today. As i have had FSX for ages but never bothered with the Fa18 as it looked too complicated. Will try and record on MSI afterburner and uplaod when i have learnt it..
You can turn on autopilot as soon as you've reached a safe altitude after takeoff, but personally I would manually steer the aircraft to approximately the desired course first then engage heading or course hold. Regarding altitude hold you cannot specify a vertical climb or descent rate, but selecting BALT on the autopilot will hold the aircraft at the altitude you are at when you press it.
Wow! Good info!
Do a video on how to formation fly with f/a-18
My target framerate is set to unlimited. My scenery settings are set fairly high but not on highest. If you are refering to the way the scenery looks that's because I have addon scenery and I'm using REX2 which makes the water, sky and clouds look ace.
Hi, when i change camera in Virtual cockpit i don't have any pannel's i can fly but i don't know where im. Can you help me ?
hey mate thanks. It does look complicated at first as it's a different system to civilian aircraft but pretty easy once you know what's what. Any problems or questions let me know! and i look forward to your vid.
Thank You!
I use the hat switch on my joystick to look around and the '+' and '-' keys on the keyboard to zoom in and out.
Thanks alot Bro...
How do you control the air brake?
Sequence crashes my game
Thanks for the info. My attempts to program the F-18 have inadvertently created a new problem(s). On the HUD, the altitude reads 127 on the runway! I'm accustomed to changing the ALT on the Carrier Tutorial by pressing "B" (ALT is always on 71 until I press B). "B" key will not change the 127 ALT at all. When I click on ALT in the cockpit (BARO/RDR) the ALT will change from 127 to 6? When I takeoff the ALT begins rapidly increasing as does the Speed and I haven't any appreciable control.
Perhaps you need a higher resolution. Make sure 'high resolution 3D virtual cockpit' option is checked under the aircraft tab in display settings.
Thanks Bill. Good!.
How can o set AP. Thanks for your tutorial.
Hey mate. You can use the ILS autopilot to lock onto the localiser and glideslope just like with any other aircraft. Enter in the ILS frequency, select ILS mode on the HSI display, and press CPL on the autopilot menu. But don't use ILS to land the aircraft, only use it to line up with the runway and get you on a good approach angle. Disengage autopilot before touchdown and manually land the plane.
Hey I recently downloaded the 2012 FSX Blue angels... but my VC is still low quality like the default F-18. Is that normal?
Hey mate. Unfortunately no autothrottle or speed hold is implemented in this aircraft.
Good video mate, Thanks
Hello, i still don't understand that when i make a flight plan on the flight planner then i just cannot see the course on the aircraft
The IFF button controls your squawk code
Literally jusdt found that out on route from boston to toronto
Thanks for your reply. Engines are working. Handbrake is released. I use the Logitech Attack 3 Joystick. I've recalibrated this a.m. after reading your reply. If I do not "program" GPS, etc. and just engage in Free Flight, then I have no problems. If programmed, however, the plane "slips and slides" and I have no control with the Joystick; especially pronounced when I add throttle. Perhaps I'm not following all of your steps or not completing the programming?
ok mate..ill give it a try thank you..do you know the address for teamspeak 3
how are you able to move your head freely in the FA18?
Does anyone one help me find a tutorial about manually starting up the F/A 18 Hornet?
When you takeoff how much power are you using? Normally you would use full military thrust. At the base of the throttle lever this is marked with 'MIL'. Even if you're not using full throttle this is a fast aircraft so you would expect altitude and speed to increase quickly. When you say you don't have any appreciable control do you mean the aircraft is not responding much to pitch or roll inputs? Or it's just hard to keep under control?
A barometric altitude of 127 feet on the runway is normal (your on land right?). This is simply because of the runways elevation above sea level. Pressing the 'B' button is calibrating you altimeter to the local barometric pressure. When you click the ALT switch in the cockpit to RDR you are changing the altitude read out to Radar altitude which is your altitude above the ground below you (in this case the aircraft is 6ft off the ground due to the landing gear).
Hey there. So your aircraft does not move at all on the runway? Can you confirm that your engines are working from the outside view? Also check that you have control over all control surfaces using the outside view. Make sure handbrake is released. I'd also recommend using a joystick with Z axis twist for rudder control.
ya there is because i use it all the time, just go into your controls then the autopilot tab and look for speed hold and set it to a key or buttom on ur controller and it should wrok fine :) it does for me at least, hope this helps :D
Nice intro
How do u turn on those systems in the jet?
No probs, ask as many questions as you need.
How do you tun on the display stuff First of all
ok thanks and where i can download it but for fs2004
Do you mean where did I get the plane from? It's a default aircraft with FSX Acceleration.
hey mate, check out the description
Need Help! Deeply appreciate your tutorials. The F-18 is my favorite on FSX. After viewing Autopilot & Nav System I programmed Heading, Autopilot, GPS, etc. With FSX on "Free Flight", I attempt to fly from one location to another. However, I cannot even get off the runway. The F-18 responds as if on "ice"! Any attempt to control with Attack 3 Joystick is futile. Any suggestions/recommendations? Thanks!!!
from where you installed this plane?
You cannot set a specific altitude. The altitude hold (BALT) only holds the aircraft at the current altitude that you are at when you press it.
I understand. Yet, the HUD ALT always reads "71" on the Military Mission Carrier Tutorial. Seems I read instructions to press the "B" key to bring the reading to "0". The HUD ALT has heretofore been "0" while the F-18 is on the ground (Free Flight).
How do you key in the alt for alt hold?
hey man could you teach us how to startup the aircraft? the f/a 18 hornet.....which is the proper and right startup procedure?
cheers
Skull24Crusher press shift + f10 theres a default checklist
How do you know NDB ? 374??? Please Help...
Subbed because of Tasmania
how to set altitude?
Can I have a download file for this plane...Looks Great!
And just another note in case you are not aware, the autopilot will only lock onto the ILS glideslope if you are below the glideslope. I hope this info will help you, let me know if you need more explaining on this or anything else.
You cannot set a specified altitude. The altitude hold simply holds the aircraft at the current altitude you are flying at.
hey can you give me the link of f18 ?
how do you put the 737-400 radios panel?Thanks.
NICE
I did not see you explain altitude select. Does it have an option to pre-select altitudeor only hold current altitude. I want the a/c to climb and maintain a particular altitude.
Mizzy Roro naw it doesnt only alt u are at, no preslect alt. Theres a also a view changer for the HSI. Middle MFD look at the top left corner of the middle MFD(MFD#2) and theres a scroller u can set your HSI to different views. Ive mastered this plane. Theres also a feature he doesnt know that u cant do on this plane. I know the aerosoft f16 and virtavia c17. That ATTH to to know the hold degree, go to the ADI on the MFD it tells u nose degree
Is your global texture quality set at maximum?
Well the one fsx blue angels is very simular to the defult fa-18. The fa-18 from fsx blue angels has added sounds, better flying dynamics, and better detail
chanil selectaa, up hiaaa
The f-18 can only use TACAN or they also can use civil VOR?
the F18 i have only in aerofly flug simulator 2013
Autopilot was "on". When "off", no more slipping/sliding. I presume Autopilot is engaged soon after takeoff? How does that impact HDG when the aircraft is already in flight, however brief? Also, how can I set altitude? And, how do you activate Radio Stack? Thanks for your time and assistance. I continue to review your tutorials. Phuloi67
Can you use a speed limiter for this Jet?
get to up to the speed you want, press CTRL + R to lock your speed
Can you make a tutorial on how the com radio works please, i would be very happy if you can make one :)
I've put steps how to get it working in the description. Any problems let me know.
How to activate chemtrails
To have the aircraft hold a climb or descent angle, pitch up or down to the desired angle and engage attitide hold (ATTH), and the aircraft will stay at that angle of attack. The radio stack in this aircraft is not default, I had to add it in manually as the f18 radio controls were glitching for me. If you want to add a radio stack like mine check out the info under the video.
Mate I'd like to add the radio stack from the Beechcraft Baron 58 which is standard for other planes too but the best part about it is that it had the regular autopilot also where you can easily set the altitude and climb/descent speed and choose heading or nav GPS and such...
Do you know how to add that?
Also I have a simple flight plan with 2-3 waypoints between departure and arrival airports and I've activated autopilot as you described but it's not following the path as it should... what am I doing wrong?
I figured it out mate from seeing your panel.cfg how you did using your Boeing, I did the same using the Baron 58 and works like a charm and I can adjust the climb/descent speed as expected too...
The only thing that is missing in that panel is the speed hold or adjustment, but the hold can be enabled/disabled with Ctrl+R as for any other aircraft with the autopilot feature installed...
Thanks much I've learned a lot from your video about the F/A-18 panels and how to read and use them...
it means i dont can download this plane?!?!??!?!
7:47 1-1-12-point-7?
That is odd. Can you confirm autopilot is turned off? Press 'Z' until you hear the autopilot disengaged sound.
How to setting ILS channel in this Aircraft?
CAL 1201 go toILS page. put in freq and set course than selct ILS on the HSI page and then press CPL on the autopilot
which modes do you use in your game, i mean, to play with these graphics with that FPS! i have a good computer , trust me, but the game is lagging! 20 fps!
How do you control the speed?
ArvidHögberg u cant no auto throttle on this plane. Ive mastered this plane if u need help i can help
This plane comes with the game. But if you don't have the Acceleration pack then you can download a similar F18 for it.
can you do this while on the ground or do you have to be in the air in order to use the navigational systems, thanks.
It will still work but it wont be very helpful to you on the ground :)
ok thanks keep up the good work :)
hi all..i think ive missed something here..how do i get the radio stack up on the f18..thanks
Hey mate, to get the radio stack look at the description. I think SHIFT+5 gets it up after that (or +4)
Theres no radio stack in this plane. Just put comms into the quad area it has
Thank you for your great help but in our next video pls write subtitle :)
Probably too much power. I use the "after burners" at takeoff but quickly turn them down once I'm airborne. The aircraft does respond to pitch/rolls. But, it does seem to be more of a "control" problem. If I don't attempt to control the aircraft, it just simply keeps climbing and the velocity increases. Before I know it, the F-18 is at 20,000 at 900 mph! I can make adjustments but the response is not as "fluid" as in the past (before this problem arose).
came here to learn for DCS
You should try DCS World F/A-18 C
Yeah I enjoy it alot, definitely worth the money...and thanks for making the tutorial:)
How can you set the transponder?
Go to IFF on the key button right infront
Hi there, I know that this very helpful video was made in 2012 (so you've probably taken up golf by now?!) but if you can remember how to create a radio stack for this aircraft I'd be interested to know how. If you've already posted a video elsewhere doing this I apologise. Thanks.
Hey mate, ha no golf I suck at it :p The method to create a radio stack is in the description of the video.
Sorry for being so dumb... It was late at night and I'd had a drink or two! Thanks for politely pointing this out to me!! Good luck with the golf.
how do you get that pennel on 5:30 ?
hey mate, check the description
Cont'd. I'm searching Microsoft Support for Games and Microsoft Flight Sim. No success so far. I wanted to limit the amount of times I go to the well DownUnder. You must stay busy fielding questions. Anyway, if you've any thoughts about this latest issue, please let me know. I will continue to review the Tutorials. Thanks again for you assistance!
Phuloi67
Hey Bro how use the autothrottle ?
hey mate, autothrottle does not come as a default feature in this aircraft.
is there any autotrottle button?
MartinE no there isnt. Shift + R is the default autothrottle for the game not the plane
Um... I'm kind of a noob... what's the difference between the default radio stack and the one you edited?!
Hi, the f18 comes with its own unique radio equipment that is quite different to operate from all the other planes. I also have a bug with mine so I made it so I can bring up an ordinary radio stack to control my frequencies.
I do not know sorry, haven't got that aircraft.
In FSX there is no TACAN so it's just VOR.
Where is the heading bug??
Sam Wahba look below MFD#1 but above where the pilot would fit his leg. Its like all the way to the bottom below MFD1 and left of MFD2
sorry i didnt start watch the video i comment before i did it
Great tutorial video! I just wish that this was done in American accent, it's so difficult for me to understand some of the things you are saying in the video... :'(
So slow
