My dad bought a new '78 (non-Biarritz) model (in Canyon Copper exterior and Arizona Beige interior) and my 6 year old self thought the 8 track radio was "neato!" :) The one thing that stuck out for me was that it had an early alarm system. If you have the windows open and lock the doors, the car will alarm with the horn if you manually unlock either door. You disable it by using the power lock switch to relock both sides and then use the power lock switch to unlock.
The rack and pinion is around $800 for the part new. Used and refurbed for $150. But then there's the labor. The tricky part will be sourcing parts for the Citroen engineered suspension. Many of the components are repairable. There happens to be a Citroen trained mechanic a couple of blocks from where I live in Portland, Oregon.
The Caddy is so easy to drive. Since 1970 I have driven thousands of miles in Eldorados, and they have been dependable, luxurious touring cars, with the only issues being rust and the occasional alternator. Every now and then I would see them on country roads in Germany and they were monsters compared to the Euro cars. Monsters!
My neighbor had one of these old caddy’s years ago. They moved over 10 years ago. It sat in their garage out of the weather. They drove it several times a year to the store. It was a car that just never appealed to me. I find the more appealing in my later years now. Thanks for showing off this beautiful car.
What a gorgeous Eldo, they all have those bumper extension pieces go bad unfortunately, that is a ultra clean one, a car I've always wanted & one of the best Cadillac body styles ever produced!
Some really good paint shops can colour match the parts but it kinda has to be done individually because many cars are slightly different colours front to back and side to side from sun exposure. This particular car looks little it was garaged most of its life but it may still be faded.
Usually don't post comments because you have so many followers that you'll probably never see this. Really just wanted to offer a big thank you and I really enjoy watching your videos. Keep up the good work and keep Hoovie in check.
9:12 In the 1980s my boss had a Cadillac and his car had that same affliction on 3 of 4 corners. That yellow Caddy looks phenomenal! I finally understand the appeal.
That Caddy brings back memories. My mother drove a 1973 El Dorado Back in the early 70's when I was little and it was the smoothest car I have ever ridden in and I'm 57. The seats in that '78 El Dorado are like riding on a cloud. Thanks for the tour Wizard.
Good thing there were more service stations back in ‘78. I can’t see the grandma or grandpa that would be driving the Eldo being able to open or close that massive hood! I don’t even see how they could open and close the massive doors. What a different automotive world it was back then.
Your friend Bob (& I’d venture to say you too Wizard 🧙♂️) have impeccable taste! My two personal favorites... ❤️Cadillacs & Corvettes!❤️ I’ve been lucky enough to own several of each through the years!! ‘92 DeVille, ‘94 STS, ‘05 CTS, ‘84 C4, & a ‘00 C5 Convertible. Thanks again for the awesome content & Hats off to your Producer, Mrs. Wizard!
Beautiful Eldorado! Just flush all the fluids and away it goes. I love people that take car of they're older cars like this guy has! Just like the way I've taken care of my 03 buick lesabre. 105 rounds on the clock and just beautiful.
Really appreciate the condition of that Eldorado. Might be a fair number of the late 70s Eldos around, but that's probably the nicest I've ever seen. Hopefully I'll be able to add one to my collection someday, although maybe in not such a "unique" color!
I worked on many 70’s Cadillacs over the years I have to say that I miss these big cars and I miss driving them and wrenching on them. Fast forward to the early 80’s when Cadillac came out with the V468 engine and the HT4100 engine and Cadillac was almost totally in ruins. Cadillac back in the day built really good cars until General Motors got greedy and sloppy.
For a second there I thought the Vette had vacuum-operated windshield wipers, until you mentioned the cowl that covers the wipers opens via vacuum. I was going to say, vacuum-operated wipers were really ancient by 1969(and gone by about the early-'60s).
Yes I was questioning that before he started explaining how it operated. LINCOLN used hydraulic pressure from the crankshaft mounted power steering pumps until about 1969.
I had my grandfathers 65 caddy and I bought about 5 years ago a 1976 Fleetwood with 25 k miles, last of the big ones on a 133 inch wheel base. It to was perfect
I had a 1970 Eldorado that had metal "pods" on the rear that the slim tail lights mounted in to and one of them was destroyed. Took me a while to find a replacement but it matched the paint on the car so that was nice. No repainting needed. I loved my boat. Had the 500 cu.in. motor and cruised at 90 mph without a care in the world. Floated down the highway. Gas was also $0.98 a gallon back then so long cruises weren't painful like today. Watching this vid makes me want to get another one. THANKS Car Wizard.... I WAS going to save up for a pool next summer but...my by-gone youth is calling!
I love the performance of the Holley carbs but blowing out the power valves & other issues get me very frustrated. I love the Edelbrock carbs & have installed a bunch of them, reliable & cost effective which run great right out of the box for the most part, just a little less power compared to the Holley. I had a '72 Stingray with LT-1, easy to work on.
I had exactly the same experience with Holley vs Carter carbs. Never had an Edelbrock version so can't say anything. Also, the Rochester Quadrajet is very underrated. It's kind of like an American Weber. And speaking of, Webers rock! I had a pair on my VW phreaque van.
Car wizard your videos are awesome been watching for a while , you remind people that older things and used vehicles are still great and are all expressions of their time . I’m about to turn 30 and I’ve seen so much change even from the cars I loved growing up...thanks for keeping the history alive and out there for people !
I used to own a 77 Biarritz, exactly like except for color. I loved that car, but it was dying at 129k miles! I prefer the yellow to my firemist orange.
Growing up we had a 76 Coupe deVille. It was red with white leather, had the Caddu 500" and got gallons per mile. It was stolen and they just ditched it when it ran out of gas, not damaged. They did steal my giant 8-track carrying case full of my classic tapes.
Car Wizard, I'm so much a "FAN" of the "REAL" > Cadillacs! I love the BIG, long, comfortable, excessive cars of the day! One of my dream cars is a 75/76 sedan de ville or Fleetwood!!!!!!!!
I have an original 1985 Cadillac eldorado biarritz, all original, runs like new, clean car, everything still works on it, auto close on trunk, plastic extensions are still good shape as well
Great job on the videos Wizard...especially enjoy them with the stay home order in place. Love anything you do on Cadillacs..especially your 1969 fleetwood project,,glad you kept stock. Regards to the brains of the operation...MRS WIZARD!
i question the mileage. The staining of the carpets in the trunk and the rust under the hood doesn't seem like a 29k mile car. Also, the trim on the steering wheel shouldn't be falling apart with that low mileage. I'd guess it has 129k. We know back in the 1970's the odometer would look the same if had 29k or 129k. Great video, Wizard!
I can remember Cadiilac dealers in 1988 gave away a free 1988 YUGO GV with the purchase of a Deville. Our Ford ealer here in Peoria IL was also a YUGO dealer and in 1988 if you brought a new Grans Marquis you get a free YUGO.
That “wiper park switch” was on the ASE test. I knew they wanted “replace the wiper motor” but it always irked me, because the park switch inside it could theoretically be fixed if the motor was not available for some reason.
When I look at that engine bay I know that I could work on that. New autos? No way. Things were much simpler back then. Too many electronics, valves and timing chains now.
Thanks for another great video, very enjoyable type of presentation. Both cars were very nice I liked on the Cadillac how the engine compartment wasn't all armoralled over. Just patina and overall clean taken care of appearance.
I had a 77 feetwood ,mint condition , nothing rode like those cars so Damn comfortable. I junked it 20 years ago. Those cars were so unwanted back then. It wouldnt fit in my garage and it would stick in the street in my driveway so it took up 2 spots either way. Plus it wasn't what we would consider good on gas. Either way I wish I still had that thing.
That Eldorado is just perfect! Great presentation. May I suggest however, to borrow someone's gimbel to smooth out the moving camera and do tiny transitions when cutting the film? It would make it a lot easier to watch to bring that aspect up to the same good level of sound and picture quality.
Brilliant even though ime in the uk I look forward to watching your videos as soon as you put them out, honest guy, I liked the vw one, to buy or not to buy and the the new heavy brake down truck 👍👍👍👍
Wizard, I think that is my old Baritz. I drove that car in Colorado during the early 2000s. I sold it when gas went over 3.50 the first time. The extension plastic was in good shape then.
Love reading the comments on my cars! Glad most of you appreciate them.
Yes, keep your garage interesting.
You sir, have excellent taste, thank you soo much for letting Wizard show off your vehicles.
I like old classic American cars too Bob. Sometimes I prefer them over the Mercs, BMW's, (not the Volkswagen group cars), and even a Rolls-Royce.

EUROASIAN Bob
Lovely classic car, looks beautiful.
That Cadillac is amazing!! Not many survived. For years you couldn't give one away.
I always loved the big Cadillacs. The owner of the Eldorado should be proud. A well preserved original car.
Glad to see you didn’t turn away Tyler’s Bentley can’t wait to see his bill for that.
Brakelight bulb $1.00

Cars from my youth... good to see them in such wonderful condition, getting the attention they need from a master mechanic! Thanks for posting!
I sold real estate back in the 1980s. The big Caddies and Lincolns were the cars to have. They rode great and were smooth as a cloud.
wow that Cadillac is immaculate.. The stickers under the hood even blow me away as to how clean and readable they are for the age..
That drive train arrangement was used in the G M C motorhome but used an olds engine
I'm a huge fan of Lead sleds and land yachts. So videos like this feed my soul

Oh My God I'm drooling over the the beige of that Eldorado
A (My) complete dream car
Thank you Mr and Mrs Wizard, just wanted you two to know I appreciate the effort you put into your RUclips videos. I really enjoy them! 🙏🏻👍🏼
That caddy is like a time capsule. I love seeing survivor cars like that. Left just the way they left the factory totally unmolested
What a gorgeous Eldo, they all have those bumper extension pieces go bad unfortunately, that is a ultra clean one, a car I've always wanted & one of the best Cadillac body styles ever produced!
Yup. Even my 86 Fleetwood had those plastic parts crack. This car is really beautiful though and I also would like one at some point
There are some fibreglass aftermarket swaps if you don’t mind a full repaint.
@@john-paulsilke893 Good to know, that would be fine.

My friend's mom used to have one and I remember how plush it was on the inside, also I remember that it was pretty good in the snow w/ it's FWD
FWD is only good for traction. I prefer the RWD's better because that's a true drivetrain. I also love mid-engine, and rear-engine designs as well.
Those big old pillow-style seats are as comfy as they look. I love them. Mopar did them well, too.
Couldn't believe how low the miles were on this when Bob first showed us. Very cool car.
Two of American made favorites. The yacht belongs with me in Floida, perfect color
I smile every time his wife asks him a question by addressing him as Wizard.

Very intersting electric fan conversion. I've never seen one like that. I'd love to have some more info!

Oooh, an ElDorado Biarritz! This is the PINNACLE of 70s Malaise Land Yachts!
That Eldarado is gorgeous!!!
What surprised me most is that it's a FRONT wheel drive car! One would think "big old Cadillac, REAR wheel drive". Definitely wasn't expecting that.

Soft close has been around for a very long time.

That eldorado is legit museum grade car. god 40 years and the paint is still pristine, what kind of care had to be done to do that?
Incredible size, that Caddy!
I didn’t know Cadillac had a banana creme pie option package.
