- Tuesday morning started with a radio call about the Detroit Fire Boat, which was still out of service ahead of the 4th of July holiday boating weekend.
It is always amazing how fast stuff gets done once the press asks embarrassing questions.
My Department went from leaving the apparatus bay garage doors open while on calls in the seventies and eighties to locking everything in the nineties.

This is why the press is important as they serve as a check and balance to the government.
It’s really sad that fire departments have missing broken equipment, but it takes press to get involved to get up and running quickly
I lived in Detroit back in the 60s it was a beautiful city. Not so much now.

This should be a lesson for people that think they want the government agencies to do everything for them. This is something only the government can do for the citizens and it took pressure from a news agency to get the bureaucrats off their cabooses and do the job they should have been doing all along in order to see that lives and property are protected.

This sounded like tattling to invite trouble. Was this an anonymous concerned citizen call or did something spill on the uniform? There has to be some Motown for firefighters- what do they need to do their job safely? In buildings that old it's September 11 all the time.
C’mon, Karen. Are they missing a ladder or a Ladder truck? There’s quite a difference. And did I not see a Reserve Ladder Truck in its place? Is this a real crisis or a slow news day?
They had a reserve apparatus that was an engine running in its place. And yes if you respond as “Ladder 25” yet are missing that vital component you are indeed missing a ladder

How'd the Detroit riots of 1967 work out for you all? Only thing it accomplished was to push even more people to flee the city. Never seen a riot yet that made things better.
SOMEONE did NOT communicate with the staff that their equipment was down for maintenance/repair. Small wonder they were freaking out. These are MAJOR failures in the city's infrastructure that need to be addressed.
Response should have been, "Do to the open border policy and getting 10's of thousands of immigrants, we have to use the money to support them and therefor we can't fix/repair equipment".
Shame on the FF union that made the call to embarrass the City.

Looks like it worked. Equipment back in service. And it’s not just the truck being out of service an engine and ladder truck carry very different equipment and do completely different jobs. They had an engine running in place of the ladder

People who have no idea about fire apparatus and firefighting should keep there mouths shut. A ladder truck is completely different than the engine running in its place and not just the truck but the equipment carried is completely different and the jobs they do are completely different. That ladder being out of service puts citizens and property at risk.
