      Story = under-rated.
      Everything else = bland rehash
      Action combat games are only good for 5-10 hours and then become mind numbing boring. The rest of the actual gameplay itself is not memorable at all.

    It's the secrets that made this game insanely good. Every box must be opened, every monster must die, every change day/night brought a new experience. The incredible side quests where the game switches tones fast, one moment I'm looking for my missing friend the next I find a witch then I find out the witch is a pawn and secret location and insane loot. I talk to the queen the next time we meet I save her and now I have to rescue her from a castle full of treasure and I get insane items. The game keeps giving, I meet female bandits and if my characters are female they let me go no issues but if it's a male party we have to fight on sight. I explore and I end up facing a dragon out of nowhere and I keep fighting it for 3 hours cause I'm no where near strong enough to face it head on and I kill it.

      I've owned it since it came out (PS3 I think?). Never really played it. Think I remember the beginning a little, then getting to where you get your first pawns. But for whatever reason, I stopped playing. But you have me at "Everquest"! To me, EQ is THE best game ever released. So many reasons why. But I'd really love to hear how/why it reminds you of EQ. It's kindof rare to see people say, "this game is kindof like EQ, in a way". I've done it. With oddball comparisons to games like Terraria, Tarkov hehe. Terraria because of it's "make your own way gamestyle", also how you sortof have to think "what do I want to do/accomplish tonight" - made me remember how EQ did that. You had to plan before you logged in. With Tarkov, it's the lack of handholding, but mostly because of how it utilizes map knowledge. I remember having to guide people through dungeons in EQ, as well as having to know where certain mobs spawned. Knowledge was power. Same thing in Tarkov.

    • @jatilq
      @jatilq 10 месяцев назад

      Everquest didn't hold your hand. You had to yell out for someone find your corpse, so you can drag it out of danger and loot it.. You needed a balanced team or it wouldn't work. If you were an ass, you couldn't find a group. This game reminds me of EQ, because of some of the unforgiving mechanics. Remember the need to kill a beetle for light at lower levels or paying to get a portal. I like that you can use the pawns to simulate the old groups from EQ and little things like bumping into people matter. EQ your race or deity you follow could get you killed. Many deaths in OT as a Bard. Fighting down a dungeon and having the team wipe, only to have to do it again to get your stuff.... And raids with 50+ toons. No red circles under bosses to know they were going to cast. You had to learn fights.@@vhayne91777

      Don't agree. One of the best action gameplay systems in an early 2010s RPG. Don't think it does anything better than other RPGs of the time in other categories though, certainly not than all other RPGs of all time. Other RPGs have a better claim to that title being better rounded in all areas. Final fantasies, Zeldas, Chrono triggers, Baldur's Gates, Star oceans etc

    • @fukunaga-kane
      @fukunaga-kane 10 месяцев назад +2

      @@7dayspkingIt's a shame that CAPCOM didn't invest more in Dragons Dogma when it was first released. If they had delivered the complete experience without budget cuts, it could have been a huge hit. Unfortunately, they missed the opportunity to skyrocket the game's popularity like Dark Souls did. Now that DD2 has arrived late to the party, it's hard to compete with Fromsoft's four new games. CAPCOM would instead babysit/give more attention to their Monster Hunter IP. MHW already has the new-gen mechanics that Dragons Dogma should have had.

    • @Neonmirrorblack
      @Neonmirrorblack 10 месяцев назад +2

      Maybe "Action RPG" but not RPGs in general. But besides that, I don't even consider this even an ARPG. There's no real choice for dialogue, and you're really just outfitting your main character and main pawn with gear and changing classes every now and then. It's even less of an RPG than Diablo, which is a series I've *never* considered an RPG. I'd still rank it among one of the best games of all time though. Like I said in a previous comment, it's basically Capcom's older 2D D&D games redone in 3D.

My complaint back then were if trying to min max stats its really a hassle changing class every time its near level up, not to mention the reload when you forgot it is time to change class..

    I've been playing video games for a long time since Morrowind came out on pc. Since then i've put so much of my life into playing pc games. After playing through Skyrim i heard of Dragons Dogma and never played it until years after its release always seeing it on sale on steam. Finally decided to download it and play it and left a huge impression on me. I can't explain why i love this game so much but ever since playing through the game and the expansion i've been a die hard fan. I think it's the challenge, the adventure, the story, the gameplay, the pawn system everything meshes together to create a perfect blend of entertainment. The ending of the base game was so awesome to me.

    I think Dragon´s Dogma is probably one of the most underrated and overseen games in the past. I discovered it while I was sick back in 2016 and it looked pretty interesting to me on steam, as i was in a search for a more lengthy rpg with replayability.
    I could start now with how my journey began and list everything that Dragon´s Dogma does right and so much better than other RPG´s in that time period (looking at you skyrim), but also what it does wrong (due to a limited amount of time Dragon´s Dogma was given and technical limitations + personal preferences) but i won´t.
    I think it is great that with the announcement of Dragon´s Dogma II the Franchise gets so much attention which it really really deserves!
    I hope for the devs it will be the banger of a game they imagine and from what i´ve seen and the time the Team was given this time it absolutely will.
    While i think Dragon´s Dogma is not the best game ever, it really is a masterpiece - you can´t go wrong - on its own. I really do recommend it, even more now as it is on sale on steam for 5 bucks!

    honestly I'm glad they are making a sequel. with the pawn system and the way the ai learned quests and how to battle overtime, just fits the current AI craze. This game was ahead of it's time in this regard and the new development of AI would make this sequel amazing!
    I would still like the option of coop though, even if you are limited to classes like the ai pawns

    • @7dayspking
      @7dayspking 10 месяцев назад

      Eh. The way Dragons dogma's AI worked isn't like modern AI. Not really ahead of its time either, like simplified versions of Peter Molybeyax's games from a decade earlier like Black & White

    • @7dayspking
      @7dayspking 10 месяцев назад

      Edit: there was also AI focused adventure or simulation games in the 90s focused on training characters. It was unique to employ that in an action RPG though. Only similar examples I remember are Peter Molybeaux's Fable games from half a decade earlier.
      Dragon's Dogma mashed concepts from other popular games together.

    Man, I sunk so many hours into DDDA, you have no idea. The loot grind was so much fun, I'm beyond disappointed that DD2 failed to capture that same felling. I'm halfway through my NG+ playthrough of 2 and I'm just not feeling it. You can't speed run the main quest like DDDA and all the top tier loot is just vendor stuff not drops of dungeon finds. I kknow there is good loot hidden in the unmoored world, but the fact it has a time limit and I'll be forced to go through the main quest again is just a draining thought.

    Oh man, I loved dragon's dogma, I was a huge advocate for it and my friends never understood why I liked it so much when it first came out. Years later though, opinions slowly changed, and it just kept popping up in videos and such... as this time went on my friends were a little more receptive, and eventually gave it a try, and wouldn't you know it, oh it is a good game... well except for one, but there is always one eh? Honestly, if you delve into where this game comes from, its lineage is gold, who conceptualised it, its influences, the mechanic inspirations, producers, developers... There were so many signs telling you this would be a success, like why on earth it didn't get the support and love it needed was infuriating. If the execs had been more trusting we would have seen a more fleshed out dragon's dogma, at least in terms of story, instead we have been made to wait for number 2 to come out... well I am happy we are getting a sequel but it is hard to forget why it took so long

    I tried multiple times to play the original on the PS3 and my memory of it was that it was a janky mess. It wasn't until the PS4 Dark Arisen release that the game was really playable. At that point, people had already played a lot of Souls games and Dragon's Dogma combat is definitely not up to that level of quality, but there is so much else going on that it was finally a great game. I mean compared to all Bethesda combat, Dragon's Dogma is golden.
    What this partially shows is that games change over time, even some Nintendo releases, because the Golden Master that goes to disc essentially no longer exists and every patch and update brings changes. When a game is upgraded for a newer console the change is even more dramatic. GTA Online was originally unplayable, but a decade later on the PS5 it is quite amazing, despite still having terrible NPC aimbots. Initial game scores are only relevant for the first week or month. Months or in some cases, years later, those scores need to be reevaluated.
    Also, unlike the original releases of Dragon's Dogma and Demon's Souls, all video games have extensive written and video guides and if you don't force yourself to play blind, the gaming experience is totally different.
