That's very cool that album and wired were definitely for many people their gateway into fusion that wanted to discover a whole lot more of that genre.
Day 5: Fleetwood Mac- Fleetwood Mac. Their 10th studio album features: Monday Morning, Warm Ways Rhiannon Over My Head Say You Love Me Landslide Happy Birthday Pete🎉 Have a great one.
Day 5 - “Nuthin’ Fancy”, Lynyrd Skynyrd Day 4 - “Red Octopus”, Jefferson Starship Day 3 - “Fleetwood Mac”, S/T Day 2 - “Still Crazy After All These Years”, Paul Simon Day 1 - “Caress Of Steel”, Rush
Today's pick is Black Sabbath-Sabotage. Simply a monster album with material that is up there along with Sabbath's best stuff. "Hole In The Sky", "Symptom Of The Universe", "Megalomania" and "The Writ" are the highlights for me. Sabotage probably ranks as my 5th favorite Black Sabbath record but it is certainly close with early iconic LPs. A great album for sure.

Pick #27: Scorpions' In Trance #31: Bad Company's Straight Shooter #30: Steve Hackett's Voyage of the Acolyte #29: Kiss's Alive #28: ZZ Top's Fandango #27: Scorpions' In Trance
This month's assignment reminds me of the RUclips series Criterion Closet. Where 3 sides of a walk-in closet are filled floor to ceiling with great movies. My pick for the day has a title that is both a film in the Criterion collection and an album that's 50 years old... Queen -A Night at the Opera'. My favorite song to listen to these days, '39. Always loved songs featuring 12 string acoustic.
Day 5: Steve Hackett - Voyage Of The Acolyte Day 4: King Crimson - USA Day 3: Return To Forever - No Mystery Day 2: Mahavishnu Orchestra - Visions Of The Emerald Beyond Day 1: Rush - Fly By Night
Day 5 Happy Birthday Pete. Fantastic pick Pete. My pick today is: Paul Simon “Still Crazy After All These Years” 1 Seals and Crofts “I’ll Play For You” 2 Bruce Springsteen “Born to Run” 3 America “Hearts” 4 Eagles “One of These Nights” 5 Paul Simon “Still Crazy After All These Years”
Day 5 is Fly By Night by Rush. The first of 2 studio albums released by the band in 75. This was the beginning of the journey. The debut from 74 was kinda blues rock in the Led Zep/Bad Co. vein, but the departure of original drummer John Rutsey and the arrival of Neil Peart allowed Geddy and Alex to go 'prog'. Pete covered this pretty much perfectly a few days ago, but as the beginning of what would turn into a 50 year journey, it's one of the foundations of heavy prog. Some might even say a very early example of prog metal.
Day 5: KISS - Alive! Day 4: Bruce Springsteen - Born to Run Day 3: Tangerine Dream - Rubycon Day 2: 10cc - The Original Soundtrack Day 1: Triumvirat - Spartacus
Time Honoured Ghosts Barclay James Harvest. Beautiful album! Great cover as well. Remember buying in WH Smiths when they had vinyls. Found the cover had such a peaceful image. It made me feel at peace with myself as well. Welcome at the time.
Day 27: Kansas- Masque Day 31: Lynyrd Skynyrd- Nuthin’ Fancy Day 30: The Allman Brothers Band- Win, Lose or Draw Day 29: Styx- Equinox Day 28: Kansas- Song For America
Alice Cooper- Welcome to My Nightmare (#11) A fun spin tailor made for Halloween season. A theatrical record including a memorable appearance by Vincent Price on Devil’s Food / Black Widow. Many tracks are still played live today including the title track, Black Widow, and Cold Ethyl. I’m game on live album performances, so here’s hoping Alice does a 50-year celebration for this one.
Terrific choice. I have this album autographed. He did a signing in 1999 at Tower Records in Chicago. It once stood on Fullerton and Clark. Came home from work and got a mailed newsletter from a Triton radio dj. It said Alice was doing a signing that day. I immediately ate and jumped on the bus. Made it on time. Not too many people came and he was signing everything. I would've brought other albums. I had the boxed set that he was promoting signed.
@@tomp8463 I had heard the possibility of this in on one of the SOT show chats. Haven't heard this anywhere else, so more of it is wishful thinking. If Alice ever did a complete album play during a show, this one would be a strong candidate.
@@guarddl9522, I wouldn't hold my breath on that one. He tends to tour the same songs for an extended period of time now. Gotta give him credit. He is like the energizer bunny of touring. He could do a fall tour with "Nightmare" in the tour title but he may just play 3 or 4 songs off it. Every show has to include those big hits and a few deep cuts. Totally worth seeing live if you never have
Day 5:"Crisis, What Crisis?" was released by Supertramp on the Scorpio and Rampart Records labels in Nov. of "75. "Sister Moonlight" and "Lady" are two of the more popular tunes from this transition LP album that still has a solid Supertramp sound but maybe is closer to a spontaneous and live version of band, seeing as they had just come off a long tour and were expected to pull off a quick successor.
@@peterm.fitzpatrick7735 This album got me in trouble once. While at Coast Guard bootcamp I bought it at the PX. Once the Company Commander did locker checks I heard and earful, followed by a lengthy segment of pushups…out in the snow.
Hello there, my today's pick of Day 5 = HAWKWIND - "Warrior on the edge of time" Really stunning Psychedelic-Space- Hardrock. Imo one of the best albums by Hawkwind and another highlight of the year 1975.
My Day 5 Pick: Steely Dan - Katy Lied Another classic from Donald Fagen, Walter Becker, and company, this is a great one from opener "Black Friday" to closer "Throw Back the Little Ones." Highlights for me include "Bad Sneakers," "Daddy Don't Live in That New York City No More," "Any World (That I'm Welcome To)," and of course the ever-so-naughty "Everyone's Gone to the Movies."
Hi Pete & everyone. Dave here. As you say, Blow By Blow is a no-brainer, for me too, but my pick today is CIRCUS by ARGENT. One of two 1975 releases by this British prog band, after Russ Ballard moved on. Very much a concept album, with my stand-out tracks being Highwire and Trapeze. Keyboardist Rod Argent injected more jazz fusion into this album, with plenty of synths supplementing his trademark Hammond organ. There's also some exciting guitar by new boy John Grimaldi.
Spending the day with friends, so just got time to make my nomination and listen to Pete's today. My choice is BANDOLIER by BUDGIE. The Welsh band's 5th album and continues their run of fine 70s proto metal/hard rock albums. Opener Breaking All The House Rules is a favourite of mine in the band's canon and their familiar quirky sense of humour is still apparent with the pun of the epic final track(s) Napoleon Bona Parts 1 and 2. Awesome!
Great discovering them just in past few years, here. Really good alternative to the purple Sabbath Zep singers, IF You can handle his voice. Like Geddy
My day 5 fifty year old album is Renaissance - Scheherazade and Other Stories. 1. Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here. Tribute to Syd Barrett. 2. Jethro Tull - Minstrel in the Gallery 3. Camel - The Snow Goose. 4. Area - Crac! 5. Renaissance - Scheherazade and Other Stories
My pick for today is British art/prog rockers Roxy Music with Siren. Some of my favorites on this one are the singles Love is the Drug and Both Ends Burning and some deeper tracks like the closer Just Another High and Sentimental Fool, always loved Bryan Ferrys unique vocal and the styling of the band backing him up
Rory Gallagher - Against The Grain 27. Rory Gallagher - Against The Grain 28. Climax Blues Band - Stamp Album 29. Golden Earring - Switch 30. James Gang - Newborn 31. The Kinks - Schoolboys In Disgrace
New statue unveiled of Rory in Belfast yesterday outside the Ulster Hall , scene of so many of his memorable gigs. Which is more than can be said of the Rory statue which in my opinion doesn’t capture him. But hey, maybe I’m on my own, although I doubt it. Great pick though.
Cain -- "A Pound Of Flesh." First of two LP's from this tough Minnesota quartet, comparable to Bad Company, AC/DC, Aerosmith, early UFO, maybe a dash of Queen and Sir Lord Baltimore. Eight cool tracks with powerful vocals from Jiggs Lee and pounding guitar from Lloyd Forsberg. Features Born On the Wind, Katy (my favorite), Queen Of the Night and All My Life -- "Open your eyes -- won't you come around Are you too blind to see? -- Time has always passed us by But my life still belongs to me..."
My Day 5 pick is an album released on March 1st, 1975 and recorded on August 1974 - January 1975 at Sigma Sound, Philadelphia Record Plant, New York City Electric Lady, New York City and produced by Harry Maslin, Tony Visconti and this singer im talking about the ninth studio album by the English musician David Bowie, Young Americans. David Bowie released his eighth studio album Diamond Dogs in May 1974. His final album in the glam rock genre,[1] it contained two songs, "Rock 'n' Roll with Me" and "1984", that exhibit elements of funk and soul, which predicted the musical direction for Bowie's next project.[2][3][4] While his interest in soul music dated back to his mod days in the mid-1960s, he began listening to soul records extensively and incorporating soul material into his live sets.[5][6] In July, towards the end of the first leg of his Diamond Dogs Tour, he performed covers of the soul songs "Knock on Wood" by Eddie Floyd and "Here Today and Gone Tomorrow" by the Ohio Players for shows in Upper Darby Township, Pennsylvania; these shows were recorded and released on the live album David Live in October 1974.[a][1] Bowie had grown tired of the tour's lavish set-pieces and theatricality and was ready to fully embrace black soul music. #27 Marshall Tucker Band - Searchin’ For A Rainbow #28 Angel - Angel This is definitely the Country side of the band with steel guitars and lots of fiddle. Charlie Daniels provided the fiddle. And Dickey Betts played the guitar solo on the title track. There is very little of the stinging lead guitar from Toy Caldwell even though he is the primary songwriter. But the rest of the band shined through with lead singer Doug Gray in top form. Highlights in addition to the title track are “Fire On the Mountain”, “Virginia”, and a sharp live version of their classic tune “Can’t You See”. I personally prefer the more rock type tunes, but the music is so well done and engaging on this record…and I still love it. As a Southern Rock veteran of long standing who saw The Allmans and the original Lynyrd Skynyrd, I have to say that The Marshall Tucker Band was on the same level in a live setting. They once played a three hour concert that was just amazing ! Toy had his cowboy hat pulled way down as he delivered many guitar solos that made you forget every other guitarist you ever saw. So powerful…so beautiful…so elegant in my memory. Angel I discovered on Sot especially on Hudson Valley Squares. This is a pop record with amazing hooks, a hard rock album with subtle flourishes, and a heavy metal edge to set this debut record on a high plain. Oh yes …there is a bank of violins at the ready always on this wonderful record. Every tune has a lot of depth and some very unique sounds. It has a freshness that hits me every time I hear it. No weak tracks here at all. The final three songs…”Sunday Morning”, “On and On” & “Angel(Theme) are like a suite that close the record brilliantly. The ballad type tune preceding that in “Mariner” is a magnificent sea tale with astonishing keyboard work and a violin orchestral backing that put you on the ship in the ocean. I spent many a year out to sea and this tune brings it all back to me. The opening two tracks are both exactly 7 minutes each. They are “Tower” & “Long Time” and they are so incredible with textures of every style of rock you could imagine. I can’t pick the many different instruments played here. It’s too dense and varied for me to tell. All I know is that I like it. Perhaps this album should be higher on my list since I am trying to rank them generally. It just hits spots in my brain that other groups have never reached. This album defies explanation…just listen and enjoy !! #27 The Marshall Tucker Band - Searchin’ For A Rainbow #28 Angel - Angel #29 Ted Nugent - Ted Nugent #30 Queen - A Night at the Opera #31 Rush - Fly By Night
Todays picks: Tangerine Dream - "Rubycon" and "Ricochet" in the 70`s when these and their other classic albums were being released I wasn`t paying attention. For me back then it was all about loud guitars and hard rock. With time and expanded tastes TD has become a favorite. These two are a couple of their best.
@@melaniethurber5117Hi, Melanie. They were a German band that specialized in electronic soundscapes. They also did some soundtracks for movies. Not what you would call hard rock.
Day 5: Pavlov´s Dog - Pampered Menial. Saw them live when they toured Germany in the early 2000s in a small venue about 30 miles from my home. It was amazing. Great mix of progressive elements and folk and some pop and on top of it David Surkamp´s phenomenal voice.
DAY 5= URIAH HEEP-Return To Fantasy - Hi friends, Uriah Heep with am album that kept them in the flow in 1975, And with album in the top 10 of ranking . I have the vinyl and the opener is real good. of title track Return To Fantasy. Shady lady is nice. Devil's Daughter a catching engaging track Beautiful Dream proggy and pretty nice. Prima Donna good little rocker. Dig it!! Your Turn To Remember Showdown Why Did You Go? A Year Or A Day. The 4 tracks that finish vinyl. Extended stuff on CD of version stuff. Uriah Heep David Byron - lead vocals Mick Box - guitars Ken Hensley - keyboards, guitars, synthesizer, backing vocals Lee Kerslake - drums, percussion, backing vocals John Wetton - bass guitar, Mellotron, backing vocals Additional musicians B.J. Cole - pedal steel on "Why Did You Go" Mel Collins - saxophone on "Prima donna" ============= So with the work on the album here I give it a 3.5- 4. Enjoy it. And have a great day. Stay warm and dry if you are getting or will get snow. Take care love hugs and prayers, ❤🤗🙏, -- 🎶🎶🎹🎸🎤🎤🎷🥁☮
Day 5-#27 is Elton John's ROCK OF THE WESTIES. For the exception of the skip over song - ISLAND GIRL = an underrated and overlooked record from the classic period. This and CAPTAIN FANTASTIC I feel are his most even records. This record rocks out a little more than most of his releases.
@@robertlamkin6464 I am only familiar with the two radio hits and Grow Some Funk from that . I do have the Captain and it is one of his best in my estimation.
My 27th favorite album of 1975 is Venus And Mars - Wings (May 30). Full List: 31) On The Level - Status Quo (Feb. 21) 30) The Hissing Of Summer Lawns - Joni Mitchell (Nov. ?) 29) Hair Of The Dog - Nazareth (April 3) 28) In Trance - Scorpions (Sept 17) 27) Venus And Mars - Wings (May 30)
# 27 10cc: The Original Soundtrack Just because of “I'm not in Love”, the biggest single in progressive pop alongside John Miles' “Music”, this record deserves to be included in this ranking. But “The Original Soundtrack” has much more to offer: great pop songs, crisp rockers like “The Second Sitting for the Last Supper” or rock operas like “Une Nuit a Paris”, which can easily hold their own with those of Queen (more about that later in the month) # 28 Joni Mitchell: The Hissing of Summer Lawns # 29 Jeff Beck: Blow by Blow # 30 Ted Nugent: Ted Nugent # 31 Supertramp: Crisis? What Crisis?
Great choice there, as with a lot of bands l like the 'deep cuts' the most. Blackmail is my favourite 10cc song. Still love their first two albums above all the others.
Hey Paul. I fully agree with you about the greatness of 10cc and Queen, and they will be on my own ranking later. I also love John Miles and his song "Music" a lot, but this song came out later in 1976. No offense intended... just saying :)
Marshall Tucker Band - Searchin' For A Rainbow //Lynyrd Skynyrd - Nuthin' Fancy //Deep Purple - Come Taste The Band //Steve Hillage - Fish Rising //ZZ Top - Fandango!
Rainbow - Ritchie Blackmores Rainbow. As the years have gone by this has become my favourite Rainbow album. It has a nice variation compared to other albums and the highlights for me are Man On The Silver Mountain, Catch The Rainbow, The Temple Of The King and Sixteenth Century Greensleevs.
Blow By Blow was such an important LP back in 1975 and still very relevant in 2025. The entire album is a masterpiece and Freeway Jam, Cause We've Ended As Lovers and Scatterbrain were staples of his live set lists. IMO Beck was probably the top rock guitar player of all time given his long period of creativity, innovations and versatility. Beck's three studio LP run of "Blow By Blow" (1975) , "Wired" (1976) and "There And Back" (1980) was truly amazing.
AIR stands for: Associated Independent Recording. It was an independent recording company formed in 1965 by three record producers George Martin being one of them. At the time pretty much all recording was handled by record companies who were huge corporations. In 1970 the company set up AIR recording studios in London.
Day 5 - A late addition to my list by a band I would never have checked out if it wasn't for SoT A few years ago Pete did a fantastic interview on here with Annie Haslam which made me want to go and check out her music. I can tell you that I am glad I did, so today's pick is Renaissance - Scheherazade And Other Stories. P.S. Many happy returns of the day, Pete. Thanks for everything you do on here.
Today is Night at the opera by queen. I never liked Bohemian Rhapsody. Never need to hear it again, but the rest is great. Opening up with Death on 2 legs. Im in love with my car. Great roger taylor. I love 39 , with brian doing lead vocals. Its probably my 2nd fav Queen album, after News of the world. Maybe Sheer heart attack also. Great era for Queen
My pick today is Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd. A truly great album. Any good adjectives fit. Any accolades, this album deserves it. Holds your attention from start to finish.
This was good, and I hate to admit it...I do not like this band for more reasons than just music. It could make my Honorable Mention list, but I do not want my name associated with Aerosmith...But this one is a good one!
27. Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow- Rainbow 28. Against the Grain- Rory Gallagher 29. Fighting- Thin Lizzy 30. Warrior On the Edge of Time- Hawkwind 31. USA- King Crimson
My favorite albums turning 50 In no particular order Day 5: Bob Dylan - Blood on the Tracks Favorite songs: “Tangled Up In Blue” “Lily, Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts” “Meet Me In the Morning” “Buckets of Rain” Day 4: Jethro Tull - Minstrel in the Gallery “One White Duck / 010 = Nothing at All” Day 3: Nazareth - Hair of the Dog “Miss Misery” Day 2: Angel - Angel “Tower” Day 1: David Bowie - Young Americans “Fame”

@@Alfred_Domke_antispace-soundsHey Alfred, I know what you mean about Bob Dylan. I like some of his material. And as you can guess, this album is one of them. Take care!
Today Pick: UFO “Force It” One of their best studio albums that included Let It Roll, Shoot Shoot, Out In The Street, Mother Mary & This Kids all made it to their outstanding live Strangers In The Night album.🎸
my pick today is ufo "force it" 4th studio album from this hard rock band , and where a string of great albums began for me fav track this kids/between the walls
Today's choice is One Of These Nights by The Eagles. The title song and Lyin' Eyes are classic songs but Take It To The Limit is the highlight of the album. Randy Meisner's vocal is amazing!
Warner Bros presents: MONTROSE! After parting ways with Sammy Hagar, Ronnie reassembled his band. New singer Bob James is pretty darn good too. Good mix of songs with a couple bangers, especially Black Train, along with the funny rollicking 20 Flight Rock remake, and Clown Woman. Of course, no one could ever top the debut album Montrose!!!
Good snowy morning Ziggy -- I haven't heard this one. Though I love "20 Flight Rock," and Lord knows I've dated a "Clown Woman" or two...maybe three. Guess it's high time I spin this one! Hope you have a terrific Sunday morning.
@@gadgettheratboy9051 You must be pushing it our way there's a 1500 mi swath coming to the east We are right in the bullseye in Virginia. Not sure which of us were the clown in my relationships, sometimes both! It's not going to sound like the first album so crank up the bass and turn it up loud
5) ZZ Top - Fandango! I've always been disappointed that ZZ Top never put out a proper live album in the '70s - making them just about the only major band of the era that didn't. I was lucky enough to see the group not too long before this album was released, and it was a killer show. So when I saw the front cover of Fandango! in the record store I was excited because I thought that it was a live album. Imagine my disappointment when I discovered that only one side of the record was recorded live. But on the bright side the music itself did not disappoint. Side One of Fandango! showcases the lil' ole band from Texas blowin' out tight three-chord Southwestern fried Blues and Rock 'N' Boogiie. For me the highlight is Dusty Hill's leather-lunged treatment of Elvis's "Jailhouse Rock". It's great, but unfortunately it's only one side of a singed disc. However the band compensates for that with a smokin' set of new studio cuts. Picking up where they left off on the scorchin' Tres Hombres, Billy, Dusty and Frank pumped out six hot down home rockers,, including the badass shufflin' "Tush", "Nasty Dogs And Funky Kings", the slow burnin' "Blue Jean Blues", "Balinese", "Mexican Blackbird", and the jacked-up radio friendly "Heard It On The X". Rio Grande Mud is my favorite ZZ Top album, and the aforementioned Tres Hombres is probably their best album, but this record has always held a special place in my heart. Fandango! is very well done and contains a ton of ZZ Top classics. It's just a great album! 1) Gary Wright - The Dream Weaver 2) Emmylou Harris - Elite Hotel 3) Black Oak Arkansas - Ain't Life Grand 4) Bob Seger - Beautiful Loser 5) ZZ Top - Fandango!
@@christophercoles4401 Great pick and article Chris. The studio cuts are some of the best that ZZ Top ever put out INHO. Rio Grande Mud and Tres Hombres are also my favourite Top albums.
4. Jefferson Starship - Red Octopus This great album spawned the monster hit “Miracles.” There are other great tunes on here such as “I Want To See Another World,” “Fast Buck Freddie,” “Sweeter Than Honey,” and the proggy instrumental “Sandalphon.” This wasn’t the harder rocking Starship that would come with the addition of Mickey Thomas, but this is still a stone cold classic!
#27- Elton John: Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy. This album, recorded during Elton's classic era, has some excellent songs. Although it's not my ultimate favorite E.J. record, I remember playing it many times and enjoying it.
It is mine, hence it will make my list up ahead. Before he went off the rails with straight Disney type stuff, I always found his records uneven to my ears; but not the CAPTAIN.
🎂🎉🥳🤠 happy 59 brother! One more year to a milestone. I just hit one myself for behind you the double nickel January 2nd Excellent pick I've got that definitely on my list for sure Day number five It's a greatest hits with a twist One of my favorite double albums From a Canadian treasure singer-songwriter Gordon Lightfoot And Gords gold Basically beginning with his career back in the late sixties all the way on through up until 1975 with the release of his cold on the shoulder album. But the interesting thing about this one is a lot of the early recordings he didn't like the sound anymore his voice had gotten deeper it wasn't so high pitched and he decided with his band to go ahead and just re-record so much stuff. The biggest part is also who worked with Jim Croce and Maury before we lost Jim was red Shea. His guitar work on so much of Gordon's stuff and the way that he sold him he wanted to redo some of the stuff Jim Gordon even plays on some of the tracks. It became a very big selling album many people have that in their collection if they don't have anything else from Gordon. And yes this was just pre wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald. That would be coming out just after this was released. Now some of the stuff was left intact from approximately 1971 if You could Read My mind beautiful album on through to cold on the shoulder. But he gave a great reworking to many of his songs The 12-string very folky sounding one of my all-time favorite songs of hisCanadian railroad trilogy. They got an update with a great sound and that's actually my favorite version between the original and that one. He kind of did a medley of two of his songs he combined I'm not saying and ribbon of darkness. The perennial holiday favored at Christmas time song for a winter night got a full reworking from its original 1967 version and it is a great one too. But the redone versions I definitely do like a lot I've driven a lot of miles to this album through The years even to this day. The Early Morning rain and steel rail blues reworked really well. But as I mentioned some of the early seventies and on he was definitely pleased with what it was and just left it sort of like a greatest hits for the most part. The ever gorgeous beautiful, rainy day people, i cold on the shoulder, if You could Read My mind, sundown. He also fused two more together into with for loving me and did she mention my name. In a way you could say that this album was one of the first to feature all new recordings of older songs what's the something that really wasn't done at the time yet for the most part. But I always direct people to that if they say what's a good way to get into Gordon Lightfoot I tell them well pick up Gords gold it's actually really cheap all two CDs since the reissue down to one CD - just one song but it wasn't a big hit. nowadays it's been that way. And then if you like it and want to slowly work your way into his rabbit hole go back and check out some of the early stuff try to find the best of Gordon Lightfoot from about 1968 and then It wi'll give you another good overlay of what those folk songs sounded like.
I always disliked this group, and it was not just the music; but I have to admit - this is not a bad album. Since I do not want to associate my name with them, I am biased about including this solid record on my Honorable Mention list:)
Day5-AC/DC-TNT(High Voltage). TNT came out in 1975,High Voltage in 1976. Both albums basically have the same songs, just released in different years. This is AC/DC’s debut full length album. I enjoy this album very much, with the raw sound, and Bon Scott’s gravely voice. Live Wire and High Voltage are my favorite songs from this album. Angus Young plays his bluesy cord progression and riffs very well. This is my 5th pick.
Day 5 / Pick # 27 = JOURNEY - Journey (self-titled debut). This is the early prog-rock version of Journey with Greg Rolie (ex-Santana) on keys & vocals, Aynsley Dunbar (ex-Jeff Beck Group, ex-Frank Zappa, Whitesnake, etc, etc) on drums, and Neal Schon on guitar (ex-Santana also), et al. Highlights are the instrumentals: Kahoutek, and Topaz, as well as the bluesy In My Lonely Feeling / Conversations. Some very tasty guitar work on this album.
@@tomp8463 Hey Tom. I found Journey's debut album in a 3 pak that includes Journey's first three albums. The pricing was a steal. Those albums will probably come up in future "Best Of" whatever year they were released in too. (Just in case your interested.)
Hey Gary. I've only had this album for less than a year and was surprised at how good it was. I never heard any of the songs on it before I bought it. I was immediately struck by what a great follow up to Santana's third album it would have made.
@@ziggyzagzi8017 , I also read about what happened. While playing guitar in his basement. Crazy but sounded like his heart was weakened from bad habits and it couldn't handle the shock.
27. Heart - Dreamboat Annie It's hard to imagine a time when Heart weren't already big stars with their staples well establsished on FM radio. The sisters Ann and Nancy Wilson from Vancouver released their debut album on indie label Mushroom in September 1975 in Canada only. It was re-issued worldwide in March of the next year, and probably aided by the success of the singles "Magic Man" and "Crazy On You," was picked up by Capitol. Those who picked up the album for the Led Zeppelin inspired hard rock anthems may have been surprised to find a lot of folk rock on the rest. Good thing they were invested their considerable talents with just as much passion, playing multiple instruments from flute, mandolin, Mellotron to even a dulcimer, and progressive arrangements as sophisticated as Joni Mitchell. These women were the real deal, ready to rock stadiums with all the other classic rock gods. Pop Rock, Folk Rock, Hard Rock, Prog | RYM #136
My pick today is "A Night at The Opera" by Queen. Not my favorite Queen album but it has "Bohemian Rhapsody" which is one of the best songs of all times.
Thanks for the recommendation, Pete. I don't know Jeff Beck well enough and must have a listen to this. My day 5 choice is an often-overlooked classic from Caravan, namely 'Cunning Stunts'. Love the cover artwork, but the music is equally great. The first two tracks, 'The Show of Our Lives' and 'Stuck in a Hole' are classic Caravan for me. 1. Ambrosia - Ambrosia 2. Barclay James Harvest - Time Honoured Ghosts 3. Be-Bop Deluxe - Futurama 4. Camel - The Snow Goose 5. Caravan - Cunning Stunts

Today's pick is Black Sabbath-Sabotage. Simply a monster album with material that is up there along with Sabbath's best stuff.

Alice Cooper- Welcome to My Nightmare (#11)
A fun spin tailor made for Halloween season.
I don't think Alice has done tours for album anniversaries. He does acknowledge them on his website where they will maake a shirt for the album.
@@tomp8463 Very cool story. Lifetime memory stuff.
Totally worth seeing live if you never have
Minstrel in the Gallery. Absolute stone cold classic!
It makes my list, but I have to say - if not for BAKER STREET MUSE, it would be higher.

Day 5 =
HAWKWIND - "Warrior on the edge of time"
Really stunning Psychedelic-Space- Hardrock. Imo one of the best albums by Hawkwind and another highlight of the year 1975.

My Day 5 pick is an album released on March 1st, 1975 and recorded on August 1974 - January 1975 at Sigma Sound, Philadelphia
Record Plant, New York City
Electric Lady, New York City and produced by Harry Maslin, Tony Visconti and this singer im talking about the ninth studio album by the English musician David Bowie, Young Americans.

#27 Marshall Tucker Band - Searchin’ For A Rainbow
#28 Angel - Angel
This is definitely the Country side of the band with steel guitars and lots of fiddle.

# 27 10cc: The Original Soundtrack
Just because of “I'm not in Love”, the biggest single in progressive pop alongside John Miles' “Music”, this record deserves to be included in this ranking. But “The Original Soundtrack” has much more to offer: great pop songs, crisp rockers like “The Second Sitting for the Last Supper” or rock operas like “Une Nuit a Paris”, which can easily hold their own with those of Queen (more about that later in the month)
# 28 Joni Mitchell: The Hissing of Summer Lawns
# 29 Jeff Beck: Blow by Blow
# 30 Ted Nugent: Ted Nugent
# 31 Supertramp: Crisis? What Crisis?
Great choice there, as with a lot of bands l like the 'deep cuts' the most. Blackmail is my favourite 10cc song.
Still love their first two albums above all the others.
Hey Paul. I fully agree with you about the greatness of 10cc and Queen, and they will be on my own ranking later. I also love John Miles and his song "Music" a lot, but this song came out later in 1976. No offense intended... just saying :)

Hey Monte, great pick!

My pick for Day 5 (#27 in my countdown)
Uriah Heep - Return To Fantasy
Great pick. Later on my list.
Great pick Robert his best jazz rock albums.
Day 5 is Pink Floyd "Wish You Were Here"
AIR stands for: Associated Independent Recording. It was an independent recording company formed in 1965 by three record producers George Martin being one of them. At the time pretty much all recording was handled by record companies who were huge corporations. In 1970 the company set up AIR recording studios in London.

Good mix of songs with a couple bangers, especially Black Train, along with the funny rollicking 20 Flight Rock remake, and Clown Woman. Of course, no one could ever top the debut album Montrose!!!

Hi Pete. Good Pick in Jeff Beck. Here is my pick for day 27.
Pick # 27 - Jeff Beck - Blow By Blow
1) Gary Wright - The Dream Weaver
2) Emmylou Harris - Elite Hotel
3) Black Oak Arkansas - Ain't Life Grand
4) Bob Seger - Beautiful Loser
5) ZZ Top - Fandango!
@@christophercoles4401 Great pick and article Chris. The studio cuts are some of the best that ZZ Top ever put out INHO. Rio Grande Mud and Tres Hombres are also my favourite Top albums.

Great Top album - half studio / half live. One of my earliest album acquisitions.
great pick christopher
@bengalgangster Thanks Bengal.
4. Jefferson Starship - Red Octopus
This great album spawned the monster hit “Miracles.” There are other great tunes on here such as “I Want To See Another World,” “Fast Buck Freddie,” “Sweeter Than Honey,” and the proggy instrumental “Sandalphon.” This wasn’t the harder rocking Starship that would come with the addition of Mickey Thomas, but this is still a stone cold classic!
#27- Elton John: Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy. This album, recorded during Elton's classic era, has some excellent songs. Although it's not my ultimate favorite E.J. record, I remember playing it many times and enjoying it.
Super album choice there.
Hi Stuart. Excellent pick.

Jethro Tull: Minstrel in the Gallery
It is on my list, too. I have to admit though: BAKER STREET MUSE brought its ranking down for me. It seems uneven.
Funny, for me the song "Baker Street Muse" is one of the best songs from Tull.

Day number five
It's a greatest hits with a twist
One of my favorite double albums
From a Canadian treasure singer-songwriter
Gordon Lightfoot
And Gords gold
Basically beginning with his career back in the late sixties all the way on through up until 1975 with the release of his cold on the shoulder album.
But he gave a great reworking to many of his songs
The 12-string very folky sounding one of my all-time favorite songs of hisCanadian railroad trilogy.
Excellent choice and article, Kev.

27. Heart - Dreamboat Annie
It's hard to imagine a time when Heart weren't already big stars with their staples well establsished on FM radio.
