Super smooth and mellow. In 1986, it found me on a particular moody day, and it was perfection. It defined that moment, and it still reminds me of that particular time in my life as an 18 year old young man. No pop music today is as emotive.
It's a relaxing cool song. What I like about the 80s ist that songs like this (a bit jazzy, smooth) were also part of the Pop Music Charts. You don't had to look for good music it came to you.
One of the best songs of the 80s. Loved it then, love it now. Most of the best 80s songs were the ones like this, i.e., songs that were kind of popular or flew just above/below the radar.
This song was Double's one and only Top 40 hit in America. The song did peaked at the #16 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart during the late summer of 1986. By the way, Double was the very first musical act from the country of Switzerland to ever had a Top 40 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
I was stationed in South Korea in the mid-'80s and this played often on Armed Forces radio. Its coming up on 40 years since I heard it and I remember every word and piano break.
Thank you for this. I was in California when this was a hit and it had a lot of airplay. If yourè in a bad mood and listen to this song I´m sure when the song is over you will sit there with a smile.
A very nice request Duncan. I remember this song very well from the mid 80s. I always turned it up when I was driving my car. I never investigated further into their music at that time, but it sounds like there’s more that we might need to hear. 🤔 Thanks for the great reaction NicknLex very smooth and chill vibe. Interesting that it was so popular in Latin America. 👍👍
Great pick Duncan. It's such a long time since I've heard this song, and it was great to listen to it again. It was even a big hit in South Africa! I love the synth wash in the background that creates a platform for the other instruments to do their thing tastefully. A really classy track, such a shame I never heard more from them.
I rediscovered this one recently. I remember it from the '80s but hearing it now with much superior digital and a much better stereo, it just hits so much harder.
Yeah, even though it was my FIRST wife's favorite song, I still like it anyway 😂 You guys are lucky you got it right the first time...I had to do a Take 2 to find the right one...VERY expensive to undo 1.0...Coulda been a Dan member otherwise 🤑
Finally top tier reactors reacting to this wonderful song. I just love it and I’m sure many people my generation do too for what you have just found out. Y no se vayan a los extremos; hay caso para los cuales tener background information es muy útil para percibir detalles que son importantes. Si alguien se los recomienda, háganle caso. Por ejemplo, que esta banda es Suiza y se pronuncia /dublei/. Abrazo a ambos.
I have a weakness for this kind of 80's music: Clean, styled pop with a hint of Jazz. I have no idea what it's called other than pop music, but you recognize it when you hear it.
I love this theme and I'm surprised you didn't know about it! There are great themes of Double (y por cierto, amo sus look chicos! Quiero esas remeras, jajajaj) Definitely the soprano sax is magical. Thanks for this video!
This song was quite popular in Germany at the time, which also had been _my_ original home country before 2002 🙂 I've always quite liked it myself! 😊 This was the Single from their first album, 'Blue'. They'd also released a couple of Singles from their 2nd (and last) album, 'DOU3LE, titled 'Devil's Ball' and 'Gliding', but neither were able to get anywhere close to their 1st Single's success, despite not actually being bad songs. But I do remember 'Devil's Ball' more for its interesting promo video clip than for the actual music 😅 Their style reminds me of the Dutch band The Nits, who had a Hit in '87 across Europe with the song 'In The Dutch Mountains' 🙂 And as a bassist myself, I approve of Alexia's t-shirt! 😉👍
This song is on their Blue album which is one of my favorite albums ever. Every song on it is fantastic. A true hidden gem. I highly suggest reacting to the whole album.
Should not surprise me that my favorite reactors on RUclips would do this song. I could just listen to the synths alone for hours. Food for the soul, almost a spiritual feeling. Going home from here and jumping on my DGX670 to learn it. Maybe I can get this done over the weekend. You guys are the BEST reactors. Sorry Nick but it's just not the same if Lex is not there. Much love!
I'm actually quite surprised you never encountered this before, but I'm glad you've now found it. It's a killer track, for sure. Check out the video at some point, too. Thanks for another honest and entertaining reaction.
Nick I heard this song when it came out in 1986 but……. those years were too competitive, not like today. So after some time this song disappeared from the main stations. I heard this song again last year in a random musical YT playlist. It’s interesting This song through the years has many covers and the group decided to remake it in more jazzy style. Is considered one hit wonder Thank you for bringing this to light ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️☮️☮️☮️☮️
Thank you, Duncan, great request, brings back memories, I was 19 going on 20 in 1985, release year, a year after my graduation, Thank you NicknLex, great reaction and conversation, have a great day everyone.
I could not remember this song from the title. After only a few notes my brain lit up. Such a cool groove. This seemed to play all the time on MTV and FM radio.
I was a 12 year old girl then and actually owned this 45. -quite a bit different from my usual Duran Duran and wham. But there must've been a 48 year old yacht owner trapped somewhere inside me lol
Why does no one get this this incredibly sad song is about a woman who gives up and STOPS (get it?) waiting for the captain of her heart? She obviously ends her life. This song is almost an instrumental it has so few lyrics, and they are easily understood. It's sad, not sexy.
She obviously ends her life? Nothing here suggests that to me. Clearly she had given up on a man, but I hear nothing that makes me think she’s giving up her life!
ThX Duncan and NicknLex. This song is way better in the original stereo mix imho. Worth a re-listen. Weird that a mono version even exists. Kind of reminds me of that one time you reviewed a distorted version of 'Brother to Brother' by Gino Vannelli. That was a sad review as the original sound was so well produced. Respectfully, 🎵🍁
Gorgeous, dreamy song. In this case, I think you'd have been better with the shorter version, which has everything that's great about the song, in a tighter, more pleasing package. To my ears it sounds like this version is just padded out to lengthen it.
This song has been on a bit of repeat over the course of the past couple of weeks. It's one of two...the other being "Men Without Shame" by Phantom, Rocker & Slick.
Not sure why, but for some reason, this song makes me think of the track "Katy Song" from the band Red House Painters. Nothing really similar about the songs (Katy Song is more guitar driven), but it's where my mind went. I think you'd really like that song too.
Gracias Duncan. I think you are the first reactors on RUclips to hit this forgotten little gem. Thanks for reviving it. I always loved it. ❤
@@elainemarsh5170 I've seen a couple of others do this song. Can't remember who OTTOMH, but a search will do it I guess.
I remember this from early 1986. The winter was so cold that year in England, and this song provided a warm glow. Timeless classic.
Super smooth and mellow. In 1986, it found me on a particular moody day, and it was perfection. It defined that moment, and it still reminds me of that particular time in my life as an 18 year old young man. No pop music today is as emotive.

Thanks Duncan and thanks guys !! Haven't heard this in ages, love it !! 80's jazz?
This reminds me of being 16 in 1986 and driving along the California coast to my brother’s wedding in Ferndale. Good memories.
Great pick Duncan. It's such a long time since I've heard this song, and it was great to listen to it again. It was even a big hit in South Africa! I love the synth wash in the background that creates a platform for the other instruments to do their thing tastefully. A really classy track, such a shame I never heard more from them.
The advent of the electronic drum kit use in 1980s so spectacular
I rediscovered this one recently. I remember it from the '80s but hearing it now with much superior digital and a much better stereo, it just hits so much harder.
An old favorite of mine. Beautiful!
the actual pronunciation for their name is Dub-Ley'
Yes, Nick---"Super catchy!" indeed...An earworm that takes up residence and never leaves...one if those Sunday morning favorites...
Yeah, even though it was my FIRST wife's favorite song, I still like it anyway 😂 You guys are lucky you got it right the first time...I had to do a Take 2 to find the right one...VERY expensive to undo 1.0...Coulda been a Dan member otherwise 🤑
Great song.
I was coming home late one night when this song came over the radio. So smooth and jazzy, it was instantly a favorite in my song list.
Love how the synthesizer just drapes over the top...

Such simple riffs but creating so much atmosphere. This song is a tribute to womankind.
Great reaction. I know you really enjoy a song when you look into each other's eyes. Saludos desde Perú 🇵🇪
Wonderfully atmospheric production of a beautiful song about a girl giving up on someone she's loved.
I have a weakness for this kind of 80's music: Clean, styled pop with a hint of Jazz. I have no idea what it's called other than pop music, but you recognize it when you hear it.
This song always reminded of David Bowie and Pat Matheny "This is Not America".
Pat Matheny and Bowie, excellent song! That was another song along with this that started my journey towards contemporary jazz.
Both released around the same time, I think. The Bowie/Metheny song maybe a year or so later 🙂
I love this theme and I'm surprised you didn't know about it! There are great themes of Double

Definitely the soprano sax is magical. Thanks for this video!

Such a nice relaxing song. I haven't heard this song in a long time but it's a great song! Like the little bit of Jazz in it. What a great request.

Thank you! Have fun learning it🤘 You and me both. I wish she could be in every video. She just doesn't have the time.
Next jazzy hit from the 80s, try Your Secret’s Safe width Me by Michael Franks
All of Michael Franks
I'm actually quite surprised you never encountered this before, but I'm glad you've now found it. It's a killer track, for sure. Check out the video at some point, too. Thanks for another honest and entertaining reaction.
Love this song. The instrumental part is always awesome!

Another tune from the mix tapes at the restaurant in Ottawa's after dinner playlist.
This song always reminds me of "Piano In The Dark" by Brenda Russell.. so beautiful, you should give it a listen. Promise you won't be disappointed!

Cuanta elegancia en este tema ✨ saludos desde Chile 😘

the video also conveys the story -
She obviously ends her life? Nothing here suggests that to me. Clearly she had given up on a man, but I hear nothing that makes me think she’s giving up her life!
Roxy music 'same old scene' is a brilliant track
Welcome to the world of light jazz
You have to listen to the whole album. Absolutely amazing!
Thank you so much!!! ☺️ We’ll have to check it out!!

It's actually pronounced like Dooblay ..really nice song ..thanks
It was way past midnight and she still couldn't fall asleep....
There is a great version of this song by female jazz singer Randy Crawford that is really good too
Kurt Maloo is the voice. Great voice for this cool jazz.
si si soy fan de esta canción es genial la pasaban un montón de veces en la radio especial para la noche
Soprano Sax actually haha

Agree
another great band from this era is Cock Robin...checkout The Promise, Just Around the Corner, When your Heart is Weak....polished era of the mid 80s
the band's name is pronounced "doo-bluh"
French.
Great tune try Black- wonderful life and chris issaks- wicked game.
This song has been on a bit of repeat over the course of the past couple of weeks. It's one of two...the other being "Men Without Shame" by Phantom, Rocker & Slick.
The cover, with the two pix of each person, is a play on the English word 'double', as in 'seeing double'...
Not sure why, but for some reason, this song makes me think of the track "Katy Song" from the band Red House Painters. Nothing really similar about the songs (Katy Song is more guitar driven), but it's where my mind went. I think you'd really like that song too.
Try the single Devils Ball from their 2nd album. Herb Alpert plays the trumpet solo
You should do ..Black .. Wonderful Life if u like this
A marvellous song!
3 albums, Kurt Maloo has solo albums.
eurotrash era...great tune
Try Shanon by Henry Grosd
Hmm didnt like my comment about RTL TV? It was true tho. They played this song every nite going off the air
They’re pronounced “Doo-bley”
Where is Nick’s pelon???!!!
🇧🇷 😉 listen Clube da Esquina - O Trem Azul
Can you please react to Closest thing to heaven by Tears for fears Please ❤❤❤
@@kevindobson6568 The Kane Gang, surely??
Thought they were from the Netherlands? Doo Bleh. Their 3rd album is amazing. Check it.
Elevator music! Lol
Pronounced "Doo Blay"!
This is not a good recording of this song. There are better, cleaner, and crisper recordings.
Gracias Duncan.
