Hi, thank you for this video. Can you recommend where to find open source projects to contribute for frontend developers? Because when i try to contribute to labels that have good first issue i hardly see issues to contribute to
Of course! Are you frontend or backend? Also for a frame of reference i start with popular projects (even though they’re daunting) and then find issues there. If you can’t find any then I’d ask the maintainers if there are any good ones to start. I also love starting with documentation to get my feet wet on their process. Share a little bit more about where you’re at and I’ll be more specific :)
@@aberefejiro Without getting too crazy I would start with documentation on any project you use. React, react testing library, eslint, etc. Itll teach you to use git and work on a team and take tickets. when youre comfortable with that then I would conribute to gitlab as fast as possible. gitlab.com/gitlab-org/gitlab/-/issues/?sort=created_date&state=opened&label_name%5B%5D=frontend&first_page_size=20 Are you doing this for fun/slowly or do you need to get a job asap?
for some, it might seem like a click bait. But actually if you watch the whole video, I think his point is not about making the perfect "portfolio website" but an actual portfolio with open source contributions / projects that help you leverage your skills
@@Scott_Stern Thanks man. I'm capable of making simple apps like shopping carts, todo apps etc. My skills are predominantly javascript, react etc. My primary goal is to get a frontend dev job.
@@jonathanjohnson2785 you’ve come to the right place :) So right now you know frontend but need experience. I wouldn’t do more pet projects. I would start doing open source and working with engineers to level up. For this I really reccomend gitlab. It’s in Vue but that doesn’t matter. They have thousands of frontend tickets. If you go to issues -> filter by label frontend. Also there are skills you’ll learn contributing to open source but might need some help with. Git, unit testing, etc. Keep going! You’re doing great! It takes time. 1 percent better everyday. Find my email on the about page of the channel. Email me with any more questions or keep commenting on the videos. I’ll make sure to do a video like this for you. Also be careful spending too much time on more pet projects unless it’s an app that solves a problem you want to solve. It feels productive but is more busy than getting you closer to your goal. It doesn’t hurt to start trying to get interviews now though.

100 percent. There are a lot of RUclipsrs lying to people that want jobs. I’m trying to make the best engineering content that gets you to your goals.
Nah man you should not clickbaiting
How do I start contributing to open source projects😮 What skills do I need i.e. frontend, backend.
I’ll make a video for you. There are projects no matter the stack. What experience do you have and what are your goals so I can help.
