    Great idea! It’s hard to find condensed information about antique lanterns on RUclips or anywhere really. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

    Thank you for your information. I wanted a Blizzard to complete the varieties I like and found a nice one yesterday.

    Love it ! I got a Blizzard No. 2, and a streamlined Monarch from an Amish yard sale in Lancaster PA. The guy told me they were his fathers, and had been used on that farm since the 1940s. They are going towards a mix of battery powered stuff, like Streamlight, and Coleman or Petromax mantle pressure lanterns for mobile lighting.

      The Amish are going with battery powered stuff? If you ask me, that sounds really "English" LoL

    Great video here, thank you very much for making this. I recently bought a Champion #2 that is just an awesome lantern (I posted it on the antique tubular lantern site) and it has its roots in the Diets Blizzard #80. This is my favorite cold blast lantern design and I plan on collecting these starting with the Champion and working my way backwards and so this vid is absolutely perfect for my project. I have to look through your videos as I love the Dietz # 10 monarch and plan on collecting these in a similar manner. Thank you very much again, Rob, as usual you crank out some really nice videos and I appreciate the effort you do in making them!

      Your Kirkman Champion #2 is a Dietz #80 from the same factory and the same machines.
      Edit "has it's roots in" is a bit different than made from the original plans and tooling exactly.

    This video is very informative. It’s a great summary and guide about the evolution of the early blizzards. Are there dates stamped anywhere on these early ones? I can’t find dates on mine.

    A good lantern is like a personal wood stove. It's hard to beat the Dietz #80 for light and warmth.😊

    Didn't know they had so much variation within a single model. I do collect and have one blizzard but have keep under 20 or so pieces for space and wife sanity so it has to be a "greatest hits" album only. Looking for a nail city next.

    Excellent video. My guess in part two will be Dietz No.80.

      Part two, will be more of a general overlook of large cold blast lanterns, in the first 20 years of the 20th century...oops, I've already said too much! LOL

    Great info Rob sometimes I have overlooked the differences in these and probably missed out on some good deals thinking that I already have that lantern but maybe we should get the wives involved in this education because my wife always tells me that all of mine are the same Lol!

      Thanks, glad you liked the vid!
      Truly, the ladies often overlook the details and, well in their defense, to most a lantern is a lantern. But, my Mrs. is now noticing the differences and unique details of each lantern I have. :)

    Cool vid but one critique. Would loved to have seen them lit to see if there's any difference in the burns.

    • @Rayo_Rob_No.17
      @Rayo_Rob_No.17  Год назад

      Having lit them, before, there was literally no difference in performance. The lanterns designs only changed, while the burn and brightness stayed the same.

      @@Rayo_Rob_No.17 Turns out, my Blizzard is model #80. It burns nice and on the whiter side, compared to Dietz #1 little wizzard. I do like the light better with the Blizzard. Thanks again for a great vid.

      @Rayo_Rob_No.17  2 года назад +1

      Well, if you’re looking for a modern made Dietz, the Blizzard is the biggest you can still buy today. I’d also suggest looking into the W.T. Kirkman Champion, No.2 Cold Blast, it comes with a full weight globe and the lantern is made of galvanized metal, great quality!

      @@Rayo_Rob_No.17 thanks! Actually I prefer antique. Everything was better made back then.. is the blizzard bigger and burn hotter than a Dietz jupiter?
