Hey Everyone! If you have any questions about being a College athlete or about Duke University let me know in here in the comments! I'll try to answer them as best as I can :)
I think the biggest question I have is what can I do to prepare? I’m running 5mi/day, lifting ~60mins/day, and trying to make sure I stretch and foam roll. You said 4 hours of practice, should I be trying for at least 3hr/day to be ready? If so what kind of training do you do that takes up 4hrs? Also, it’s probably important to mention I have no coach. I’ve been homeschooled all my life therefore I’ve had to train myself. I know that might look bad to colleges and I’m so worried that will ruin my chances but I’m dying to be on a team and I’m a real athletic environment. My whole family things I’m crazy with my training😂. Also, you mentioned not having a ton of muscle mass, is that okay? Cause I’m in the same spot there, 120lbs and I’ve always struggled to put on muscle but recently I’ve managed to gain 3lbs muscle mass (I’ve got a scale that tells you muscle/body fat/etc). Sorry the comment is so long, I’ve just got so many questions and never have anyone to ask. Feeling extreme unqualified but hopefully😅 (I’m already studying at a d1 level college btw, otherwise I would try for a d2 or d3 which is more where I would qualify)
Heyyyy Grace! Uhm no worries at all! Okay if you are already at a d1 college I would see if you could walk on to the team. Especially since you already got into the school that is probably half the battle. Email the coaches and see what their criteria are for walking on, I wouldn't leave the school you're already at when there is a team right there. As for the training, all training no matter what stage you are it is different. I thought I would be prepared for my pro training after training as a d1 athlete but I wasn't. So don't beat yourself up trying to prep just do what's best for your body so you can be the best athlete you can be when you decide to join the team. -- as for muscle mass haha I was so little coming in and throughout college they taught me how to lift and get stronger and now with my pro training im even stronger than that. so you arent too. late i promise! I hope I answered some of your questions !!!!
@@AsToldByDom I will absolutely email the coaches, thank you! Your response is really helpful, and yeah, I’ve been worried the muscle mass was going to be a problem but I’m glad to hear I’m not the only one haha. 💛

Yes, it’s so important to ask for clarity when we’re learning
Thanks coach!
