  • In this thought-provoking talk, futurist Kimberly Crowe brings a poignant, humorous perspective to the sweet, seductive, human desire to be right, and makes the surprising argument that "being right" is just a fairytale we tell ourselves. Kimberly shares deep insight and research as to why we, as human beings, slip so easily into confirmation bias, giving credit to information that reinforces existing beliefs while ignoring information that conflicts with those beliefs. On subjects ranging from breakfast cereal to making love, Kimberly shares her own journey to break through the sticky, compelling desire to believe her own fairytales, and instead shift her perspective to incorporate a new, higher possibility. A delightful, funny and inspiring talk that will have you laughing and wanting to share. Kimberly is an award-winning international inspirational public speaker, best-selling author, audiobook producer, six-time entrepreneur.
Kimberly is the mother of two and an adventure seeker, who has hiked sections of the Pacific Crest Trail, navigated Class IV rapids with one of Costa Rica's female Olympic medal-winning whitewater champions, sailed down the coast of Mexico on a 42-foot Yankee Clipper, and traversed 200 miles on horseback through Canada’s Jasper National Park. Her motto is “live life out loud”
Kimberly is passionate about the value of being able to shift your beliefs by shifting your perspective and enabling it most quickly with geographic travel.
Kimberly believes that the wider the perspective, the less narrowminded the person. And the value of having less narrowminded leaders can unlock new possibilities for connection and understanding and empathy around the world. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Wow. This really opened my eyes to what is going on right now in our world. This perspective-shifting talk was a light-bulb moment as to why the majority would rather argue for their ignorance than lift the veil of illusion...and greatly added compassion as to why they do - or don't do- what they do. BRILLIANT TALK!

@@EntrepreneursRocketFuel It's a journey that sometimes has bumps in the road and many twists and turns, all from which we grow stronger and wiser. The destination is unclear until we arrive at the end, but Oh what a ride along the way. Every person needs to stop looking for the fairy tales and enjoy the real scenery along the way...and not forget to chase a butterfly and smell the roses along the way. Thorns hurt, but they're seldom fatal.

I have finally watched this TEDx speech. It is fantastic. A great message and a great presentation. My only question is why, why in the world, after a year on RUclips does it have less than 2 thousand views and barely 75 comments? (What really stood about this presentation is the follow-up, in that Kimberly, replied to each and every comment.) She made a connection with each and every person that watched and responded to her speech. She went a step further than many other TEDx speakers and made a more direct connection with her audience.

This reminds me the person I have known! When she heard a rumors about the person she hated, she delivered it to others without judging whether it was true or not. Confirmatory bias makes us trapped in our own worlds and not to be grown. It is important to doubt what I think and notice other opinions objectively. Doesn’t the filter bubble intensify the confirmation bias? Also, It is similar in that they only accept the contents that fits their thoughts and absolutely prevent them from encountering anything that is not.
