    Okay, let's get real. The camera focus didn't affect the footage. You could see everything.
    Glad the new ff's got experience and that is good. The fact that other countries were complimenting FDNY just shows they are good at what they do. So are many numerous FD's in America. Question from an Amateur: It seems counter-intuitive for urban engines to carry four lengths of hard-suction hose. Is this a fallout from 9/11 when the water mains around Ground Zero were destroyed so now the engines are (all?) equipped to draft from a river?

      Mike Ruskowski sometimes if they can’t find anyone from the same firehouse that is available from another shift they’ll bring someone from another station’s off duty personnel. I think the 10 Code would be 10-14 which transmits an emergency signal from additional persons to fill designated positions.

    Will one of you FDNY guys talk about why hard suction is used to connect to the hydrant?

    • @wesmeziere9349
      @wesmeziere9349 5 лет назад +2

      When a water supply system become taxed, the flow pressure from hydrants on that supply grid will decrease. When the flow pressure from hydrants on the taxes grid dips, soft suction or soft supply hose connected to hydrants will collapse. Hard suction prevents collapse of supply hose due to decreased flow pressure from an over taxed water grid.

    • @brownhousefarm
      @brownhousefarm 5 лет назад

      Ok thanks. I was always taught never to go under 10 psi residual but I guess if you have an overtaxed system then that could be pretty common. It’s almost like it becomes a drafting from a hydrant situation. That’s life in the big city! Lol!

    • @jacobkeister9162
      @jacobkeister9162 5 лет назад +2

      Maneuverability, amount of water flow, tradition, mostly because thats what we know how to use and we use it effectivly and there is also a safety factor when it comes to getting out by following the hose and feeling the couplings, smooth bump bump on a coupling always goes back to the pump. Also a change like that would have to be nationwide in order to interface with other departments and also firefighters dont like change lol

    • @oliversommer8165
      @oliversommer8165 5 лет назад

      @@jacobkeister9162 the amount of water is maybe less, but it comes at over 20 bar of pressure. We also try to use as little water as possible, so amount is not the problem. If we need a lot of water we use normal hoses to. In Denmark we can't find directions by couplings, because we use Stortz

    • @ronaldrobertson2332
      @ronaldrobertson2332 4 года назад

      Ugh! Storz for regular lines? The only time we used Storz couplings is on 5-inch supply lines.

    • @rah2182
      @rah2182 4 года назад +1

      You can't take a reel line with you to the 20th floor of a burning high rise, plus it might not offer enough GPM as a 2 1/2", or 3" line can.
